Posted by malibu43 , 16 Aug 2010 - * * * * * · 2,189 views

Well, I'm done.

It took > $20K and just over 110 hours, but I am a private pilot.  I had a hard time ever finding numbers for average hours or cost to get a PPL, so I don't know how my numbers reflect how much it will take for someone else.  All I can say is that for me, in my location, that's what it took.

Despite my insane nerves the...

Wish me luck!

Posted by malibu43 , 23 Jul 2010 - - - - - - · 917 views

Man, I've been busy.  Work, vacations, and flying... so I'll have to keep this short.

I got my last solo XC done (which was a blast, first time I flew to a completely new airport by myself) and got my night local in with 1.6 hours and 8 landings.  All I need is my night dual xc (at least 1.4 hours and 2 landings), and then I'm ready to go. ...

Posted by malibu43 , 23 Jun 2010 - - - - - - · 927 views

I have some fun stuff to report…

I’ve completed 2 of my 3 Solo XC flights.  First one was a few weeks ago on Sunday at about 4 PM.  I flew down to Hollister and back.  The weather was great and flight was pretty uneventful.  Hollister is a local CalFire base, and when I arrived overhead and announced my intentions, the CalFire guys asked if I could...

Post #12 - Ready for Solo XC

Posted by malibu43 , 07 Jun 2010 - - - - - - · 778 views

Well, finally something interesting to report – I passed my XC Phase Check on Saturday which means my next flight will be my first Solo XC!  Since not everyone knows what a phase check is – it’s where the club assigns a different instructor to fly part of a XC flight and go over some other stuff with me to make sure I safe and ready for solo...

Posted by malibu43 , 20 May 2010 - - - - - - · 752 views

Had an interesting learning experience this morning during and after some Soft Field Take Off and Landing solo practice.

I got in 5 soft field T/O and Landings. On all 5 of them I had the same thing happen, which I had not experience before. After applying a little power during the flare, I sensed the plane was drifting left of centerline, so I applied a...

Posted by malibu43 , 05 May 2010 - - - - - - · 994 views

Well, I got a little love from mother nature last weekend and was able to get my last two dual nav flights in. The first flight was supposed to be a VOR flight to Stockton (KSQL – VPSUN – ECA – KSCK), and the first half of the flight was pretty rough.  The first problem was that I had planned the flight probably a month ago, but hadn’t been able to...

Posted by malibu43 , 30 Apr 2010 - - - - - - · 919 views

Well, not much new, due to bad weather and the flu. But, I thought I'd share some pics my wife took a couple months ago when she joined my instructor and I for some pattern work:(link deleted.  sorry)I've also got a video of a soft field take and landing from this flight... I'll see if I can post those as well.Good weather forecasted for this...

Post #8 - Solo Practice and Cross Country

Posted by malibu43 , 29 Mar 2010 - - - - - - · 661 views

Well, now that the weather has been clearing up, I’ve been getting in lot more hours, both Solo and Dual.

As far as Solo practice goes, I’ve had a handful of sessions since my last post, with almost all of them being pattern work. I’ve done, cross-wind, soft field, and short approaches over the last few weeks, and I’ fairly satisfied with how...

Posted by malibu43 , 24 Dec 2009 - - - - - - · 584 views

Actual Post Date: 2/10/10

Well, not a whole lot new. Due to weather, I think I flew twice in January. So far I've flown 3 times in Feb. Since my solo phase check, I've only had 2 solo flights - one right after the phase check and then another one today. So other than that, there's been 2 or 3 lessons going over short and soft take offs and...
