Runtime error

Recommended Posts

I decided to install Phase 1 on my older computer. It had Phase 2 on it which I removed per instructions. I'm not a newby to that. Removed CFS3 , also, and cleaned up the registry and defragged the hard drive. Reinstalled CFS3 and updated to 3.1 and installed Phase 1. Installation went fine until I clicked on the short to initialize. I got "runtime error 13 type mismatch." Started all over again from scratch with the same result. Checked the Regional Settings and they were ok. I had this problem once before and fixed it, only can't remember how. I'm having a major senior moment, so I would appreciate any and all guidance.

Yup, sure did. both times I installed CFS3 & OFF. Also, I forgot to mention I'm running XP 32bit. I put P1 on one of my older computers that I loaned to my neighbor, & I think that install is the one I'm remembering as giving the same Runtime error. AAAArrrrrggh!!!

Sitting Duck,

I'm in US. Nearly as far west of you as I can get and still be in the continental US, eastern Washington state up near the Canadian border. I've got 3 'puters in the house and thought it'd be nice to have a different phase on each one, so I took Phase 2 off this one and can't get P1 to operate once installed. P2 ran with no problem. If XP was corrupted, then I think I'd got the same error when P2 was on this machine.

I thought, " I've got 3 'puters in the house and thought it'd be nice to have a different phase on each one" explained my intention. I have P1w/Supa, and all the missions written for it, P2w/last hotfix plus skins and videos, everything downloaded when they came out. And have been installing and using them on the various computers I've had. Never had any trouble until now. I've deleted the two major folders in Programs, the folder in My Documents and the hidden one in Application Data under Microsoft. I've also done a clean install of CFS3 and updated to 3.1 and flew once. I used a registry cleaner each time and defragged also. This was always sufficient in the past. I'm running XP SP3 on all my machines. Any ideas?

You're right. It's been a while since P1 was released, but I don't think that's my problem. The reason is this. The computer I loaned my neighbor has P1 on it and it's XP SP3 like this one. I had upgraded the OFF on it to P2 but it wouldn't run very good, cuz it was an older machine. I uninstalled P2 and reinstalled P1 and that runs fine. Go figure. I've tried compatibility mode and it doesn't help. I know I've seen that error but cannot remember how I fixed it. Old age is the pits and CRS doesn't help. I get a message on the installation UI that OFF was installed once and get the choice of cancelling or reinstall. I've ran 4 different registry cleaners and run Search to find anything I overlooked. Nada! I sure don't want to reinstall Windows to see what happens, but I'm a stubborn old Irishman and refuse to throw in the towel.

Nope, uncleal, the neighbor has XP SP3 from the gitgo. I know cuz I have the OEM disk that his installation came from. (Had to check the disk) So I'm toying with the idea of a Windows repair using the disk. Not the Repair Console, either, but the one M$ tried to hide for whatever reason.
