Steer and fly back toward base as far as possible away from rebel position before ejection I suppose. Fuel loss looks large, but don't know what it should look like. Flame near the end might require ejection over rebels. If this is today or recent, we'll have to look for news of this huh?

Well, I never thought I would be sad to see a Syrian plane down.

Hope he got some bastards before bitting the dust.

It seems to be a hit in the right wing tank. The MiG-21 has only 150 liters there, if i remember correctly. If the fuel is vapored the fire will be out and the plane will have a fair chance to come home.

During the India vs Pakistan war of 1973 an indian MiG-21 got a similar hit and came home with a hole in size of a football in the wing.

MiG-21FL C1103  flown by Flt Lt  A J Singh of No.45 Sqdn  had its port leading edge completely torn open by the AA fire.

The aircraft C1103 was so badly damaged that it never flew again for the rest of the war.

I still think the damage model in SF2 really sucks, once hit you're done no matter what.

No, you are not.

It was the case back in SF1. In latter SF2, the damage model is better. Far from perfect or good, but better. You can have engine fire, be hit or things like that and go home.

It's still sucks to be downed by a single 14mm in a A-10, though.

Update. Nice video here. This is dated 6 Sept 2014, Syrian 21 dive bombing, inverted then rolling up and dropping bomb, somebody shoots a tracer round past it. I noticed it for the illumination of the low sun on the skin, just like over The StrikeFighters.

Worth viewing in full screen.
