independent Scotland?

Who says Scotland will be keeping any of that

For the natural resources Geography.... unless theres a means of relocating oil fields that I'm unaware of. For the fishing grounds, international maritime law.

The rest of it, why would it go anywhere?

That's okay we can send some boats up there to get it - well within international maritime law - after a few changes

...whatever the outcome will be, it's going to be tough, in many ways.

I'd like once to hear a Scotsman say: "Rally round the referendum, really, raise the ratings, whether they're right or wrong!". And to record it too.

So many questions if the "Yes" wins... Where will Her Majesty go on holidays if Balmoral now lies in a foreign country? Will the Scot Guards be disbanded? Will Scotland Yard be renamed? Will the Disunion Jack banish everything blue? What about the RAF roundels? When I think of "The Empire on which the sun never sets", just one century ago in 1914, torn apart down to see, in a week perhaps, the miniscule British Isles divided between three states... Oh, well, after all, the sun may have never much set, neither risen, over Scotland...

Anyway, Jocks, don't make the Ukrainian mistake to rent out Scapa Flow Naval Base to Her Majesty's Navy. Remember what the Russians made at Sevastopol this year...

I don't think that such a secessionist will could happen anywhere in France. Most of the separatist regions in Europe are seeking autonomy mostly for economic reasons. Scotland, Catalonia, Flanders, Padania, are richer than their national average, and have the impression to pay for hopeless stragglers. In France, the capital region is by large richer than any other place, and through Jacobin centralisation and welfare state institutionalisation, is the one wasting money in bottomless pits. Those who bay for autonomy would not like to see their subsidies and compensations cut.

Fallenphoenix, true, no country that has gained its independance from another state has ever asked to return; but some may have had regrets. The Archipelago of Comoros got its independence from France through referendum in 1975, safe for the island of Mayotte who chose to remain French. And now, the independent Comoros, an allegory state for political instability, corruption and hopeless poverty, flood the small island of Mayotte under crowds of illegal immigrants searching for the favours of the welfare state financed by the faraway home country.

Well, Scotland will still be a monarchy under Elisabeth and her successors. At least, it's what's planned for now. So personal union it is, Balmoral won't be foreign land for the Queen.

Also, regarding France, the bottomless pit just answer :"screw you, parisian arrogant assholes". I am paying. Every one working in France is paying for the bottomless pit, so stop this bullshit.

Still, some should indeed leave, like French west indies, but don't do it because they want our money. But if Scotland opens the Pandora's Box, who knows? Don't under estimate french local identities. Or some new separatisms in Paris' suburbs departments.

Finally, Comorros' population asked to come back into France back in 1998. And Dominican Republic reverted to being a spanish colony for a few years in 19th century. But Spanish were stupid enough to screw that up.

I live in Toulouse but was born around Paris (Sarcelles : the city of DSK and of dangerous djihadists) and regularly through social network I can find some friends from my childhood.

Quite often they tell me : "You live in southern France, you're always on hollydays !"

I answer them :

"Yes, we watch the Airbus growing all the year and we harvest them in September"

Same thing with a friend who is oenologists in Roussillon and he has to explain parisians that his job is serious, that he earns a lot of money, from exportation, and that he pays more taxes than they do.

Indeed. So full of themselves they think they are the only important and working people in France.

As i have been told, French from the provinces are charming people, and most of any bad image of France is due to the Parisians. Personally, i was around the south and everybody seemed particularly nice

Not so sure about this. I'd vote NO but first you'd have to get rid of the london bankers and the amazing UK.gov fraud. That's not going to happen.  Its interesting how the politicians are panicking and screaming now that a YES vote seems a possibility. The world wonders.

trout:: Not to mention the imminent US/British invasion when they realise that Scotland has Muslims and Oil.

I suppose NATO could bring democracy to Scotland if there is a YES vote. Maybe that was the side deal, you know, a Deal deal, business is business, made at that Wales summit, off the golf green, in the bushes. There's always a side deal. Donbass can wait.

I live on Provence coasts but come from French flanders. Indeed, Northern people are so much warmer. Still, people in the South are so much nicer (except in Nice and Cannes) than in Paris...

How many countries that have gained their independance from another state have ever asked to return?

One that I know of :Dominican Republic, in the middle 19th century (deffinitely not the best time to come back to Spain)

Btw many people here asked about what the queen will do, but the really important thing is What will James Bond do? I mean, in Skyfall we finally learned he's scottish, so...

I had expected some very close, hence dubious and controversial, 50.xx%/49.xx% in favor of the 'No', like in Quebec 1995. But here we have unquestionable resultats, with over 55% Scottish voters wishing to keep a Hanoverian Queen, Anglican ministers, and neighbours Southern compatriots finding their accent too stereotypical even to play 'Macbeth'. Congratulations. One does not always have the option to choose own's fate.

We DID get some incredibly close results... where I live it was 50.08% to 49.02% thats 27,243 to 27,329 - 86 votes difference out of 54,572 cast.

Also in typical politician fashion some of the "No" party leaders have already started reneging on "The Vow" - only took them 22 hours or so from its inception... Fact is this isn't the first time Scotland has went to the polls on this matter and I'll be stunned if its the last.

On the plus side however it seems Piers Morgan vowed to return to the US in the event of a No vote... he's your problem again guys

Kiev? There's a technical reason for Kiev falsely claiming the terrorist label. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) supposedly does not make "loans" to nations at war or civil war or having territory disputes, hence the terrorist label for Nova Russians.

Likewise, UK.gov declared Iceland a terrorist state when the island gave a finger to london bankers, so the UK could enact anti~terror financial sanctions. Unlike Kiev.gov, UK.gov was supposed to be a really, really big act in the post-911 global anti~terrorist operation. That there was NO rebuke that I know of from US=nato for misusing the "terrorist" label taught me much about the global ATO morphing into a global financial scam.

PS: I extensively followed the combat in Nova Russia over the late summer. I am very proud of the accomplishments and overall civilized behavior of the guys in the regular Ukraine military and their opposite DPR and LPR militias. This excludes the Darwin Sector penetrative batallions. Very impressive men the Uk/DPR/LPR guys. :salute: Contrast them with the Darwin Sector mercs and our own US.gov headchopping proxy rebels in the middle east.
