Help with dealing a missile

Recommended Posts

Hey, I am playing War for Israel campgain and wondering how you guys dealing with a missile that launch at you from like 30-40nm ?

Sometimes I have the RWR alert but I don't know when the missile come to me..

And another thing, sometimes a Japanese J-10 launch at me a PILI-12, which is semi-active or something so the RWR don't alert you, so you know a J-10 launch at you from 30-40nm a pili-12 and I don't know how to deal with that, cuz its always hit me..

Thanks and sorry for my bad english.

Depending on what difficulty level your playing you most likely have an enemy icon near...steer clear---waypoints are for general usage and can be altered to avoid dangerous areas...if your in a ship that's radar equipped you might get a visual and or a warning sound...don't worry about anything until you've hit the deck ...get low fast, and stay there with your wing ,,, then you can figure out the details----chaff is your friend on the way down to angels treetop...

I fly Normal difficulty. I see the enemy, but dosen't have sound of radar locking or something.. the J-10 just release the PILI-12 on me and the only thing that I have is "missile launch" in red. then I have to wait 4-5 min until its hit me. I try to release chaff and go down to 300ft when the alert from the tower comes, but its hit me after 2-4 min..

Well if theres time to figure or guess from which direction your getting the alert from... get low and turn perpendicular to it and then go full throttle chaff flair every 10 seconds or so, other than that go dark---off radar...off throttle to reduce your heat signature...

Sounds like you're dealing with active homing missiles, AMRAAM / Phoenix type. Bad news is the way the game is set up you won't get a launch tone when they fire. The red text is your launch tone.

You will always get a tone when the launch platform acquires you and sends an active radar homing missile your way.  The tone then goes away when the missile switches to active tracking mode, just a few seconds later.

So, to recap, if you hear a "lock" tone that suddenly goes away, dump chaff, dive for cover, and hug the ground. When I mean "hug" I mean get below 15 meters/50 feet of altitude, and stay there!

Yeah, you're dealing with the AHM 'bug'.  The ThirdWire avionics dll files only handle RWR launch tones with SAHMs like Sparrows and Alamo-class missiles.

There's a couple of things you can do:

1.)  Use the Weapons Editor to change all AHMs to SAHMs.  This can be a real immersion killer, but it makes it possible to be a little more survivable.  Otherwise, you're blown out of the sky without warning.  Not cool.

2.)  Do not fly after 1992.  This is when the AIM-120 was first developed.  The only AHM up to that point is the AIM-54 Phoenix.  Good luck if you're on the Red side.

3.)  My personal solution, use only SAHM missiles.  There are some advanced ones you can use that are still used today.  The AIM-7P is still in service, as is the AA-10C.  So, it is possible to have modern combat beyond 1992 simulated in SF2, but you just have to limit what your forces can carry so that everyone has an equal footing.  My personal weapons set is simple.

a.)  Let's say you want a working R-73 (AA-11) missile.  I go into my Weapons Editor, clone the AIM-9L.

b.)  In the details of the weapon, I specify I want it to use the AA-11 .lod file

c.)  Save.  Now I have a working AA-11 missile that has a lot of the characteristics that I want, but the AI can use it and survive.  It's essentially a Sidewinder missile that looks like an AA-11.

It's not realistic.  It's not pretty.  But, I'm playing SF2.  I'm not after elegant.  I'm after something that works.

Sorry, but that's not true, and I can provide proof to the contrary.  One does receive warning, if only for a second or two, when the AI first launches an Active Homing Missile at them.

I've just created a 1v1 mission, a MiG-21MF against an F-14A that's carrying 4 AIM-54s, and I receive a warning tone every time.

Yup, if AI is launching AHMs, you get a very short RWR warning/indication.. usually followed by the "hes launching a missile" or similar radio call

Whats missing is the RWR warning if the AHM seeker goes active during the terminal stage of flight
