Difference between Red Crown and Hawkeye?

Recommended Posts

Is there any "in-game" difference between gound control and a AWACS? I cannot see any but I fly mainly for Red side so I can be wrong.

I think the only way Hawkeye shows up is if the player's aircraft is using the F14Avionics.dll file for its avionics suite.  However, in terms of what it actually DOES, I don't see a huge difference in what it does.

Red Crown was a navy cruiser. College Eye was an EC-121.

The avionics .dll has only to do with the aircraft avionics, it has nothing to do with speechpacks.  It's the NATIONS.ini in the Flight folder that controls which speechpack is activated, according to the chosen "nation". IIRC Hawkeye appears by default when flying for USN and USMC, that's it. Not to mention how bad and incomplete Hawkeye's speech is, the fact that other flights still call for Red Crown instead of Hawkeye, etc.

Red Crown is historically accurate for the Vietnam era, AFAIK.  I miss the AWACS voices from Jane's USAF, they were cool and rather professional.

Wow.  That's an even dumber programming function than I originally suspected.  What a kludge.

Thanks for the info, wanted to know If it worth the effort of adding AWACS on my missions, and the answer is no, as Ground Control can do the same mission.

Pretty much.  It detracts from the game's atmosphere, but it doesn't affect gameplay.
