Best Jet trainer

Morning folks,

 

With the upcoming modules of F/A-18C, and F-14 I was wondering what would be a good starter in-depth jet. I already fly the A-10A, and F-15C but was looking for more of a challenge, and something to teach me how to fly modern jets. I was originally looking at the Hawk, but saw bad reviews. I am currently leaning towards the F-5 but would like all of your advice.

Same question. I've been waiting since the first days of LOMAC for a proper F-14 and or F/A-18. Getting to the point that I really should consider getting to grips with it so that I'm ready for the Cat and Bug when they arrive in the hopefully not to distant future.

 

From what I've read I'm leaning towards the F-5 as well but I welcome input from those more familiar with the game.

The F-5E is very good but somewhat lacking in avionics compared to the FA-18C I'm thinking ( A-10C & F-16C in BMS! ).........but love the multi flap options. 

 

I don't know how the F-14 will be done............ .there was talk of some kind of Jester AI to be the GIB but avionics wise maybe the F-5E might be similar.

 with lots of analogue dials.

 

I have the Hawk and you do sadly notice a drop in quality compared to the other modules so havnt touched it much............I do believe VEAO are suspending work until DCS sort out v2.5 now..probably a good move.

 

The easiest to get into for me were the MiG-15bis and F-86F, both easy to start and fly, whereas tail draggers (fairly new to me) like the P-51D and Spitfire mk9 are easy to start but an absolute nightmare to take off/land.

 

A good campaign is a must so you can get some use of the aircraft IMO.........was doing the Museum Relic in the MiG-15bis...great missions and good bit of fun...............got taken out by a MANPAD and an R-60 from a Su-25............also dogfighting 3 x A-10s in the vertical (as you do)............. I can't hit jack with those guns! .

Can't speak for other modules but the F5 is good enough for me.

 

It allows you to get used to setting up lots of systems before performing a task (eg; the weapon control computer). I belive by accepting that you can't do something immediatly now, should make operating the more advanced machines easier to begin with.

 

If want to know some systems simialr to the F18 you should consider the A10C. It's a highly reagrded module and you have experience with the A variant so you'll be focusing on the avaioncs and not studying a new plane.

 

Summary; The A10C might be best for you if you wish to focus on systems but the F5 allows for more flight realiam comaperaed to your F15

I think I'm gonna go with the F-5. I do actually have the F-86 and enjoy it, but the main thing I'm looking for is something to get me familiarized with more modern jet systems and weapons.

Hmmm...

 

If you want to get a plane mainly for avioncs, familiasation of late 4th gen sysems, perhaps the A10C is the only way to go.

 

The F5s main selling point is it's simplicity, not it's systems.

 

You shouldn't bother with the F5 if you have/ get the F86 and the A10C.
