I've added an expanded notes and install instructions section to his original readme -- I highly suggest giving it a very close look.

  3. Darwin (WW2) Update Pak

Darwin (WW2) Terrain Upgrade: For WW2 PTO mods SF/WoV/WoE -ONLY-

This mod is a relatively simple upgrade to Edward's WW2 Darwin terrain. What I've done is added LOTS of new targets to the existing target areas, and replaced at least one airfield, on each side, with a repainted "desert airfiled 1", which is now a medium dirt runway. The 'new' target areas are enhancements of already existing ones -- I've just added some more things here and there to make it look a little more populated. There are a couple of new parked planes, based of existing ones, hex-edited and reskinned for their proper users.

This is a fairly 'target rich' environment -- there are plenty of items for strike and anti-shipping missions. It is also fairly well defended - so watch out for the flak.

It has been tested in SF, WoV and WoE, using their cats pointed to in the main ini. As the new objects will be residing directly in the terrain folder, you should have no problems. (see the CombatAce Knowledge Base for the tutorial on using the cat pointer line, or down below for full instructions)

New planning maps (all 3) have been created; only the #3 map has the cities listed on it, to keep #1 & 2 fairly 'clean'.

You MUST have ALL the Pacific Objects (ground units, ships, AAA, infantry, etc) already installed in you PTO version of the game; otherwise things won't be appearing. This is especially important for the ships -- make sure you have the barges (get both, they're needed in the GO folder), the Liberty ship, and all warships, both Allied and Japanese. Don't forget to check Geo's page for more WW2 goodies ... there's a lot of stuff that's usable (and used!) here as well. Hinchbrooke has some very nice Royal Navy battleships. <wink> However, you DO get a new PT Boat. The lods and skin bmps come from Edwards Solomons Terrain; I just built an half-assed data ini for it to add one more little ship.

It is also reccomended that you have installed CA_Stary's WW2 hangars and buildings. They have a nice worn green wood-ish texture, and look really good in the PTO theatre! I have, also, included the original data ini with it's terrain and water effects activeated (Vista user take note!! -more for you below).

I HAVE tested the map with both Brain32's tiles, and CA_Stary's "Green Hell'' mods; it is NOT set up for their use, and if you choose to install either of them, you do so at your own risk (not that anything bad would really happen...). See "Notes and Comments below for more". While they do greatly enhance the visual eye candy, there are several issues due to target placements.

As stated above, the data ini has been upgraded to the latest standards. Water effects are active, so Vista users beware...more information for you is below in the Install Instructions. See "Notes for Vista Users".

= MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE LATEST WW2 FORMATIONS INI IN YOUR FLIGHT FOLDER =
== MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE LATEST WEAPONS PAK FOR THE WW2 WEAPONS!! ==

Follow these instructions herein =EXACTLY= and you should have no problems. In essence, READ the readme!!!

  4. Black Desert HM bmps

Black Repainted HM_bmps for Desert Based Terrains ONLY, for use in Post-08 Patch Levels

    For Add-On Terrains for SF/SFG/WoV/WoE/WoI and SF2/SF2:/SF2:E

This "repair package" is for those people still having trouble/issues with items placed near the sea/land transitions, and for those terrains using the Desert tileset that have NOT been brought up to 08 patch levels. The problem manifests itself as 'partly sunken ships' in port, or GroundObjects and Building that seem to be below ground level when near the shoreline.

You'll note the listing of the NextGen sims, albeit THEIR terrains need NO adjusting; this is for 3rd Party, Add-Ons to be used in all the aforementioned sims, that were originally designed for use in the Classic Series, and have been migrated over. This will also fix them for use in the Classic Series.

This fix has been covered innumerable times in several hundred posts on the CombatAce message boards, and even has it's own thread in the dreaded Knowledge Base.

What this fix does, is change the Height statements for those terrains built in the 06 patch level, and before, and will bring them up to date with the O8 Level for the Classic Series, and will work the same for the NextGen series.

Some knowledge of use of Skypat's Cat Extractor Tool is needed, as you will probably be needing it to extract the terrain ***_data.ini from one of the Original 3 Terrains ™ - Desert, VietnamSEA and GermanyCE, to make comparisons to for the terrain to be repaired. For the most part, the data in the Install Section below will have all the details necessary; but just be prepared.

I'll try to keep the install/ repair procedures as easy as possible for the less experienced users.

As always, unzip this pak to a temp folder or your desktop to gain access to the rest of this readme. It should be mentioned at this point, you're REALLY going to want to read the document all the way through before installing. This will aquiant you with the procedures and help you in the long run.

  6. Nothingness (Testbed Terrain)

This is a terrain of simply, nothing.

Why is this useful? Without all the objects and tiles it needs to load, it helps to minimize loading times. This is particularly useful in skinning (decal positioning), model testing, and target placement (which then can be copy-pasted to other maps). It includes two airfields (enemy and friendly) and two target areas, WITHOUT targets.

**For this reason, it is recommended that missions using this terrain either be RECON, SWEEP, STRIKE, or CAP.**

  7. Empty Desert Terrain

    Empty Desert Terrain

for SF/SFG/WoE/WoV, possibly FE & WoI, and SF2 Series

This is a 98.6% stripped down version of the STOCK SF desert terrain map. By that, I mean that every target area, citywise is still there, and all but 2 airfields -one large airbase for each side- has been removed. The cities themselves have been cleared out of all 'targets of value'.

This creates a fairly 'clean' map, and still allows for ALL mission profiles. However, Strike missions will be confined to the enemy airbases, as no 'valued' targets exist elsewhere on the map. CAS, Armed Recon, Recon, Anti-Ship and all the Fighter mission statements, CAP, Sweep, Intercept are all still valid.

This was done to create a fully operational map, where mission/campaign/terrain targets builders can have a relatively clean slate to experiment and test their various projects.

This package ONLY contains the inis necessary to get up and running -- there are NO terrain tiles included. As the cat pointer line 'reaches around' back to the existing Stock Desert.cat, this should pose no problems for End Users ™ that already have the needed stock terrain. However, edited Planning Maps for all 3 levels are included.

For those End Users ™ WITHOUT the stock SF/SFG/SF2 desert terrain, you'll have to obtain terrain tiles. There are plenty to choose from in the CombatAce downloads section. My preference would be Photo-Real desert by Polak:

    http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=4461

These are REALLY nice tiles, and enhance the look. The additional cat pointer lines for GermanyCE and VietnamSEA exist, but are commented out. See below for more information of "Selecting the Proper Cat File".

It has been tested in SF, WoE and WoV, post 08 patch levels. It should work in FE & WoI (also post Expansion Pak and Post 08 Patch) with the correct cat pointer and existence of the stock SF Desert Terrain -- this has NOT been tested, however. It also works in SF2, as long as you adjust the cat pointer lines in the main ini.

It should also be noted the inis herein are in ANSI coding, and may need conversion to Unicode for use in SF2 NextGen series games. This has NOT been tested, as the stock SF2 desert inis ARE still in ANSI.

As always, it's reccomended you unzip this archive to a temp folder, or you desktop, to gain access to the rest of the readme for full, detailed install instructions.

    Happy Landings!

  8. WW2 Palestine

WW2 Palestine Terrain For SF/WoV/WoE WW2 MTO Installs

    -06 Patch Levels ONLY!-

This is a modification of Gepard's "Suez" terrain, backdated for use in WW2 with the approximate timeframe of 1940-1946. Not a great deal of "enhancements" have been added, but you can expect the "usual suspects". Plus one 'generic' Easter Egg (one of the target areas, albiet slightly misplaced - bonus points for IDing its origination)

This is a COMPLETE terrain with all items necessary to unzip, install and fly over. All tiles and TODs are included, as well as several new-to-this-terrain Terrain Objects (buildings and the like) The targets, nations, briefing, movements and types inis have all been greatly expanded to reflect the timeframe. Place names have been adjusted to WW2 levels (where known and discoverable). All 3 levels are Planning Maps have also been newly created, just for this terrain mod.

The data ini has been upgraded to the semi-latest standards (ie: 2006 patch level). Water effects are active, so Vista users beware...more information for you is below in the Install Instructions. See "Notes for Vista Users". NOTE: this is NOT designed for the post-08 patch or SF2 "NextGen" series. The terrain's data ini does NOT have the new Height Data nor the background shader sections!!! (however, these are easily added if you're familiar with the varous terrain data inis, and how to 'update' them).

It has been tested in SF, WoV and WoE, using their cats pointed to in the main ini. As most of the new objects will be residing directly in the terrain folder, you should have no problems. (see the CombatAce Knowledge Base for the tutorial on using the cat pointer line). It has NOT, however, been tested in post 08 SF/WoV/WoE/WoI or any of the SF2 'NextGen' series; it is NOT designed for useage in those type of game installs. If you choose to do so, expect NO support from me -- you're on your own. Although, it should work pretty well, in any case. Some data ini adjustments will probably be required for the additional effects. Although, for more "modern" times, I'd reccomend Isreal2 + the targets enhancement pak.

As always, it's reccomended you unzip this to a temp folder somewhere's thats easy to find. This will give you access to the rest of the readme for full, detailed install instructions and the Usual Notes and Other Ramblings...

Follow these instructions herein =EXACTLY= and you should have no problems. It's HIGHLY reccomended you read this document completly through before installing this mod. There is VITAL information herein about several items not included with this package.

  9. WW2 Tunisia/Western Med Update Pak

Tunisia Terrain & Targets Upgrade For SF/WoV/WoE WW2 MTO mods

This started out as a simple targets upgrade, and turned into a major rework of Edward's Tunisia Terrain for WW2. As you can expect, the targets have been greatly 'enhanced', with many additions, and most areas have been retiled for ease of targetization. The visuals (ie: the eye candy) has been enhanced by these revamped target areas. This will allow single mission and campaign builders more latitude in their creation of missions and campaigns. It also has the side effect of enhancing in-game generated single mission play, too!

This is a COMPLETE terrain, designed to REPLACE the original verison in it's entirety. It is also NOT compatable with any other terrain retiling or TOD mods to the original terrain that are presently available. All necessary parts are included; tiles, inis, LOTS of new terrain items, with the excpetion for some 'permission-only' GroundObject items. All new planning maps are also included. Also, there are at LEAST 3 Easter Eggs on the map. There are also several brand new tiles, and their associated TODs (new city ports and some other interestering items).

There ARE some historical flaws (and probably physical geographic ones as well!!); they are fully detailed in the "Notes & Explinations" section below. You may also experience extended or longer than usual loading times; this is normal due to the shear number of terrain objects on this map.

The data ini has been upgraded to the semi-latest standards (ie: 2006 patch level). Water effects are active, so Vista users beware...more information for you is below in the Install Instructions. See "Notes for Vista Users". It has been tested in 06 Patch Level WoE (my WW2 install of choice), using the cat pointer line to all the Origianl 3 ™ Terrain Cats (Desert, GermanyCE and VietnamSEA). As most of the new terrain objects and tiles are residing directly in the terrain folder, you should have no problems. (see the CombatAce Knowledge Base for the tutorial on using the cat pointer line). It has NOT, however, been tested in post-08 SF/SFG/WoV/WoE/WoI or any of the SF2 'NextGen' series; it is NOT designed for useage in those type of game installs. 10. DEUCES Euro Desert Terrain

Am not sure who created this mod of the desert terrain using Euro Airwar textures other than 'Dueces' but here it is.
I call it in a couple missions uploaded in my F-4S_F-4N pack to be uploaded today barring tech difficulties.

I modded the 'nations' file, BTW.
