  1. U-2 Grand Tour Mission Pack by comrpnt

U-2 Grand Tour Missions over North Vietnam (1966) by comrpnt

    Welcome
Welcome to a small set of missions related to the USAF's use of the U-2 over North Vietnam during the mid-1960s. This mission pack was inspired by Giles Whittell's excellent book Bridge of Spies.

This mission pack is designed to work with ThirdWire's StrikeFighters - Series 1, Wings Over Vietnam (WOV), patched to October 2008. Note that some external add-ons are required to carry out the missions in this pack. Missions included in this pack
The following missions are available in this pack; fly as the U-2 pilot over key strategic targets in North Vietnam, avoiding a multitude of SAMs and interceptors that attempt to engage you, or fly as a pilot of the Vietnam People's Air Force and attempt to 'down' the U-2 as it violates your airspace. Each mission takes place early in the morning, in daylight conditions with broken cloud. Note that daylight operations were required to assist the array of cameras on board the U-2. For each mission, waypoints are provided to guide you.

U-2 Grand Tour In a U-2A, take off from RTAFB Ubon and head, at altitude (~70k ft), for the border with North Vietnam, south of the disused airbase at Dong Hoi. Then head north towards Hanoi, before heading south-east to Haiphong, and then turn south-west for the long trip home.

U-2 intercept (MiG-19) Attempt to intercept the U-2 as it enters your airspace, south-west of Dong Hoi. Depart from the VPAF airbase at Ben Loi, west of Vinh Son.

U-2 intercept (MiG-21) Using the more advanced MiG-21, attempt to intercept the U-2 as it continues to make its way north to the capital, Hanoi, and then escapes south and west via Haiphong. Depart from the VPAF airbase at Bai Thuong, south of Hanoi.

  3. Carrier Missions Pack (SFP1/SFG/WOE) V2.10

Carrier Missions and Training Pack for SFP1/SFG
Welcome to the ‘Pack’ for Strike Fighters Project 1(SFP1)/Strike Fighters Gold(SFG)*, which provides basic carrier training and operations missions using (mostly) stock aircraft.

*Although only tested in SFP1/SFG, it has been reported to me that these missions and the Libyan terrain work equally well in Wings Over Europe (WOE).

    Updated to V2.00
This mission pack has had a major update.
    1. Re-vamped US fleet to be defined as types and also targets, to greatly simplify mission file contents and make it quicker to load missions.
    2. Re-wrote ReadMe to point at currently available ships from the A-team - ReadMe is now also in HTML to make it easier to link to all pre-reqs.
    3. Renamed mission files to make it easier to distinguish between carrier training (CT) and carrier operations (CO) missions.

    Updated v2.10
This mod has been updated on request to remove direct links to any Capun and A-team prerequisite models. Instead, please contact Capun for access - details enclosed.

Thank you to all those modders that have provided the prerequisites I have used in my mission packs. If there are any problems with these missions and my own mods, then please contact me directly, not the authors of the prerequisites. Many thanks.

    Missions Included in this Pack
This Mission Pack contains 16 missions per Stock SFP1/SFG aircraft and a few specialist missions for the A-5A. That's over 100 training and operations missions in total!

    The stock aircraft provided for are: A-4B, A-4C, A-4F, F-4B and F-4J.

The Mission Pack also includes bonus missions written as a special request for the A-5A that include a long-range low-level Nuclear strike mission.

The naming conventions used for each mission are described as follows:

Stock Aircraft (using A-4B as example):

CT-LB A-4B© = Carrier Training Mission (simple take-off, circuit, land), Libya Terrain (CTF-60 6th Fleet in the Mediterranean), A-4B aircraft, Daylight, in good clear weather, Mission time is ~20 minutes
CT-LB A-4B(CN) = As above but at night*
CT-LB A-4B(CBW) = As above but in bad weather** (low thick cloud, rain)
CT-LB A-4B(CBWN) = As above but in bad weather at night

CT-LB A-4B® = Refueling mission with KA-6D Intruder, RV with tanker, fly a long circuit and then land, Daylight with good clear weather, Mission time is ~30 minutes

CO-LB A-4B(AS) = Carrier Operations - Anti-ship mission, Scramble to meet incoming enemy patrol boats, Daylight (dawn) in good clear weather, Mission time is ~20 minutes
CO-LB A-4B(ASBW) = As above but in bad weather
CO-LB A-4B(AS2) = As above but fly as part of the 2nd flight, Attack similar targets approaching from a different direction
CO-LB A-4B(ASBW2) = As above but in bad weather

CO-LB A-4B(I) = Carrier Operations - Intercept, Scramble to intercept enemy Migs approaching the fleet, Daylight (dawn) in good clear weather, Mission time is ~20 minutes
CO-LB A-4B(IBW) = As above but in bad weather

A-5A Bonus Missions (including Nuclear Strike Mission):

CT-LB A-5A© = Carrier Training Mission (simple take-off, circuit, land), Libya Terrain, A-5A aircraft, Daylight, in good clear weather, Mission time is ~20 minutes
CT-LB A-5A(CN) = As above but at night, in good clear weather
CT-LB A-5A(CBW) = As above but daylight in bad weather (low cloud, rain)
CT-LB A-5A(CBWN) = As above but at night in bad weather (low cloud, rain)

CO-LB A-5A(S) = Carrier Operations, Strike mission deep into Libyan territory. Knock out a Nuclear weapons research site, Daylight in good clear weather, Mission time is ~2.5 hours
...Watch out for multiple SAMS and AAA en route – stay low and fast
...Watch your fuel supply – avoid using AB - you'll be on vapours on final approach!
CO-LB A-5A(SN) = As above but at night. (Landing is just after dawn)
CO-LB A-5A(SBW) = As above but in daylight in bad weather
CO-LB A-5A(SBWN) = As above but at night in bad weather

*Night is depicted by just before dawn (~05:00) so that landings are in twilight (because the fleet is not illuminated in Stock SF and I wanted to make it at least possible to have some idea where to land after the mission is complete).

**Bad weather is depicted by heavy low cloud and rain.

Read the enclosed Mission Briefing .jpgs for more details about each operations and refuelling mission.

Waypoints are provided to guide you to the tanker or target, then onto approach and home, landing back on the carrier.

Pre-requisites are listed in the README, together with installation instructions.

  5. Super Why! Flying Game Mod (beta) for SFP1/SFG

Super Why! Mod authored by FastCargo

    ********** Version 0.9 Beta ***********

Be advised, this is a complete modification to Strike Fighters:Project 1 or Strike Fighters Gold (SFP1 or SFG). It has NOT been tested with Wings Over Vietnam, Wings Over Europe or Wings over Israel (WOV,WOE,WOI), but it should work with them. It is meant to be a 'stand alone' mod, and as such is not guaranteed to be compatible with any additional mods or changes. Using anything from this mod, or adding anything to this mod, may 'break' the mod or the mod you are transferring stuff to.

In short, use it as a stand alone mod and don't screw with it!

    *************Notes************

After the startup video, the main screen should be fairly easy to navigate. The center lets you 'fly', the door is to exit, and the computer is the options screen. Basically, the menu simply restricts you to fly Instant Action only...there are no other options available.

The flying itself consists of flying Super Why around the sky, looking for clouds with various words at the top. You can 'shoot' the clouds, which will then fade away. That's pretty much it...there is no 'score' per se.

The Options screen is the stock SFP1 screen, however, I'm pretty sure most of the Gameplay options are disabled. You can try to mess with them, but the effect may be unpredictable.

The genesis of this project was noticing how my young (at the time) autistic son liked Super Why (a kid's show that encourages reading), airplanes, and technology. So I thought how I could adapt a combat sim into a kid's sim. The problem was my son outgrew the speed I was working on the project...by the time I got it to a state of playability...he no longer needed it. So it has been hanging on my hard drive.

It is a pretty good mod at this state, but is kind of boring, since there are no debrief screens, and not much happens other than flying around, reading and 'shooting' clouds. There are things that could be done to make it more complete, but time has erased the need, and the engine has moved on. It's uploaded here for anyone to use or build on for their kids.

    Enjoy!

  6. B-1B Operation Enduring Freedom

    B-1B Operation Enduring Freedom

3 missios for B-1B Lancer on WOE_Afghanistan Terrain.

In real world B-1B takes off from Thumrait (Oman) AB and Diego Garcia AB, but it's not possible do that
in Afghanistan terrain; so in my WOE Afghan missions B-1B starts from an Afghan AB (considered as Thumrait AB or
    Diego Garcia AB).

I suggest to fly steps from WP03 to WP04 and from WP07 to WP08 at 2Xspeed simulation.

As more targets are protected into valley and mountains it's necessary a big care to designate them
    using radar in "difficult option".

    Aircraft needed:

    B-1B Lancer
    FA-18A
    F-16C_BC30

    Ground objects:
    SA-6L
    taliban_DSHK
    Taliban

    Istallation:
Copy and overwrtite (after backup) Afghanistan_TYPES and Afghanistan_targets.ini
    in Your WOE_afghanistan terrain folder.
Copy the mission files in Your WOE_mission folder.

  13. Do you really can fly and fight with a F-16?

Do you really can fly and fight with a F-16A?
    ============================================
    28 gun only dogfight missions

    I.
The F-16A Netz is one of my favorit planes in WOI and i know that a lot of people love the F-16A too. I fought a lot of dogfights and scored more than 100 kills with it.
Then i asked me, wheter i won the dogfights by i my flying abilities or by the superior missiles? When i was shot down by a MiG-29 i asked me wheter the enemy plane was better or only the missile.
To get a correct answer i thought a gun only dogfight will show the truth.
So i started to make a seria of dogfight missions between the F-16A Netz and the planes of the period. The F-4E, F-5E, F-14A, F-15A, F-16A, F-20, MiG-21MF, MiG-21bis, MiG-23MF, MiG-23ML, MiG-29A, Mirage 5D, Mirage 2000EM and Kfir C2 i took as enemy in 1 vs 1 gun only engagements. Later, if 1vs1 started to become boring, i made 16 planes air combats. In the most cases it are 4 F-16A vs 12 enemies. For planes with comparable flight performance, like the F-15A or MiG-29A, i decided to make 8 vs 8 engagements.
For me its a big fun and it is challenging, even the hunt on MiG-21MF or Mirage 5 can become difficult and dangerous if enough enemies are around you.
And i hope you enjoy the mission pack too.

  14. F-15E vs MiG-29As

A simple mission I made. Fly a F-15E and blow the MiGs out of the sky.
    You need:
    F-15E
    MiG-29A
    ANWgreen terrain

THIS IS MY FIRST RELEASED MISSION, DON'T GET YOUR HOPES UP

(If you like it, I might do more)

    ISSUES:
I forgot to include this in the README:
Do not use ALT-N, as this will lead you to the landing, if you are in a hurry, use ALT-T, and the AI landing (if you use autopilot) isn't perfect, so if you want, do it manually. (but you shouldn't crash) ;)

  16. VMFA-531 Mission Pack 'Gold' (WOV) V1.0

    Welcome
Welcome to VMFA-531 Mission Pack 'Gold', for Wings Over Vietnam (WOV). This pack covers the entire set of missions flown by Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 531 (VMFA-531) between the dates of April 13 through April 30, 1965. Where possible I have tried to stay true to the historical write-up of Mike Wanamaker and Lee R. De haven*, given the constraints of the publicly available aircraft and ground objects in WOV. Where necessary, certain stock aircraft and ground objects are used in place of their historical counterparts.

*Special mention goes to Ken King (531_Ghost) for commissioning this work.

NOTE: This mission pack has been optimized and tested to work with the October 2008 patch for Wings Over Vietnam.

    VERSION: 1.0

    Missions included in this Pack
This pack contains over 60 single missions, scripted to reenact the engagements undertaken by the F-4Bs of VMFA-531. You will also get the chance to fly sorties in support of VMFA-531 in other aircraft, such as the A-6A, F-100D (acting as a Misty fast FAC) and the F-105D.

    Acknowledgements, Disclaimer and Terms
Thank you to all those modders that have provided the prerequisites I have used in my mission packs. If there are any problems with these missions and my own modifications, then please contact me directly, not the authors of the prerequisites. Note that some models used by this pack may have different terms and conditions (consult the accompanying documentation for details).

Released under Fair-Use terms, as defined at CombatAce

    Special thanks
Some contributors deserve a special mention, either for explicitly granting me permission to include their work in this pack, or for publishing their work under the aforementioned Fair-Use terms at CombatAce, and therefore permitting its inclusion in whole or in part in this pack*:

Kesselbrut – US_Squad_early and VC_Squad ground forces, updated by TeTeT**.
Ravenclaw_007 – Martin Baker Mk7 Ejection Seat, used in F-4B.
    Suicidal – Type-21 Frigate.
    Sundowner – VMFA-531 (early) F-4B skins.
Swambast – M18 smoke canisters, used with the marker smoke effects in missions involving US ground troops.
    Veltro2K – C-141A transport aircraft, and KC-135 tanker aircraft.

*Please contact me if you feel this list is incomplete or contains errors. Thank you.

**Included in this pack after consultation with USAFMTL.

    Contents
This mission pack replaces all previous VMFA-531 mission packs that I have published since late 2007. Briefly, the contents are as follows:

    New smoke marker effects
    New formations
    Comprehensive mission briefings documentation
    60+ scripted single missions
Static aircraft with low-rez skins to populate your airbases during scripted single missions
Pilot skins to personalize your strike aircraft
FM tweaks to provide an auto-opening canopy for each strike aircraft used by this pack
Loadout enhancements to match the ordnance expended during the 'real' missions
A static frigate and carrier to replicate carrier task forces for both Yankee and Dixie stations
Comprehensive target definitions for each mission, with some enhancements to existing friendly airfields
New type definitions to support the new targets
Full airfield approach, tall structure anti-collision and ramp flood lighting for all friendly airfields

    Installation
Download this pack to a neutral location on your local machine, extract the files, and then consult the detailed ReadMe for installation instructions.

Files are included to drag-drop this mission pack onto a clean install of WOV (patched to October 2008) with minimal configuration required. Detailed instructions are also included to perform a merge-install.

    A final word
This 'Gold' release of the VMFA-531 mission pack completes the set originally published in a series of mission packs from late 2007 onwards. This final version is intended to replace those earlier separate mission packs by offering everything in one place, re-written and enhanced to make full use of the October 2008 patched version of Wings Over Vietnam. The work presented here is the culmination of over 2 years worth of effort. I had a lot of fun doing it, learned a lot, and met some good people along the way. I hope that you enjoy it. I think you will.

    Good luck.

  18. VMFA-531 Mission Pack IV (April 25-27, 1965) for WOV

This pack covers missions flown by Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 531 (VMFA-531) between the dates of April 25 through April 27, 1965. 19. WOE Refuelling mission (as requested)

RAF F4 Tanker mission for WOE.

This mission involves you taking off as a pair of 19Sqn F-4s from RAF Wildenrath and heading North-West to the tanker practice zone.

The tanker takes off from nearby Laarbruch - North of Wildenrath.

Both you and the tanker have the same tanker-track waypoints programmed into your navigation system so finding the same piece of sky where the tanker is should not be too much of a problem.

As there's no radio contact (radio silence on this mission) for briefing purposes you need to know that the tanker is flying at 20,000 ft and a speed of 280kts. This information will prove useful when you line up and start closing on the drogue.

Both you and your wingman have the necessary waypoints programmed in to do the tanker track 3 times and then head back to Wildenrath for a touch down. You can fly the whole mission on autopilot if you like. Obviously you'll not rendevous with the tanker if you do it all on AP.

The MRTT will also return to Laarbruch after 3 circuits of the tanker track.

The overall mission time is about 45 minutes.

The weather is set to RANDOM and it's an afternoon sortie (16.00). For more of a challenge set the time to 01.30. The MRTT's lights should come on, including the drogue lights (if you'd included the mod I submitted a while back http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autom...;showfile=2992).

    [in case you missed it]
SFP1, WOV and WOE only simulate tanking - you will not take on any fuel during this mission - but it feels realistic enough when your about to hit the drogue!

Also, as you're flying as a pair, if you line up behind the starboard drogue (right side) then your wingman appears to line up on the port side. This looks quite realistic when viewed from outside. :-)

Hope you like it. Regards, Paul T. (comrpnt).

  21. In Memory of LCDR Dennis Pike - MIA March 23, 1972 (WOV)

    Welcome
This mission pack replicates the final mission of Lt. Cmdr. Dennis Stanley Pike (USN), that took place over the Vietnam/Laos border on March 23, 1972. In that mission Lt. Cmdr. Pike and his wingman, Cmdr. Robert Taylor (USN) – commanding officer of Attack Squadron 192 – were flying A-7E aircraft assisting ground-based government forces being overrun by Viet Cong guerrillas, and also a downed T-28 with American pilot and Vietnamese observer in the same area. After forty minutes over the target area both aircraft were heading homeward, when Cmdr. Taylor received a call from Lt. Cmdr. Pike related to “oil pressure problems”. Moments later – and still 20 miles inside the Laotian border - Pike’s A-7E engine failed. Cmdr Taylor saw Lt. Cmdr. Pike eject from the aircraft. No trace of Lt. Cmdr. Dennis Pike has ever been found since. Loss coordinates were 152200N 1073400E (YC755030), and in 1973 his status was recorded as Missing In Action.

  23. Operation Rubicon (WOE)

    Operation Rubicon (for WOE)
Welcome to Operation Rubicon (for WOE) - where Rubicon has two meanings. First, it denotes R(ostock)uB(lockade)icon. Second, to "cross the Rubicon" is a popular idiom meaning to go past a point of no return and refers to Julius Caesar crossing the river of that name in 49 BC, deliberately as an act of war.

The objective of this mission is to attack and destroy the Soviet Northern Naval fleet undergoing repairs and maintenance in Rostock Naval Yard, East Germany. Strategically, this will stop the Soviet fleet from responding to NATO air and ground strikes on Warsaw Pact forces massing in East Germany. By this very act the NATO forces have reached the point of no return.

This mission was inspired from a Scenario in Tom Clancy's 1986 novel, Red Storm Rising (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Storm_Rising).

    Version 1.01 update
Replaced broken links to CA-hosted A-Team models in README with links to Capun's skunkworks site.
    Version 1.02 update
Removed reference to withdrawn A-Team model of Soviet Chapeav KrestaII-class cruiser. Alternative existing ship model used instead.
    Version 1.03 update
Fixed minor typos in NATO and Warsaw Pact briefings.
    Version 1.04 update
Removed reference to withdrawn A-Team model of CGN-9 cruiser. Alternative existing ship model used instead.
    Version v1.10 update
Updated on request to remove direct links to any Capun and A-team prerequisite models. Instead, please contact Capun for access - details enclosed.

    Acknowledgements
First, thank you to TK for providing an excellent platform and modding environment. Second, thanks go to all those modders that have provided the prerequisites I have used in my mission packs. Your hard work and dedication is very much appreciated.

If there are any problems with these missions and my own mods, then please contact me directly, not the authors of the prerequisites. Thanks.

    Mission Overview
This mission is complex (my most complex to-date) and involves a total of 65 NATO aircraft, drawn from USN, USMC, USAFE and RAFG, and 13 Warsaw Pact aircraft. You can take the part of each main player in the Operation and experience it from their perspective. The aircraft used on each side and their specific mission are detailed as follows:

    NATO Forces
    USN/USMC
EA-6A, departs CV-62 USS Independence on SEAD mission to destroy EWR sites near Rostock naval yard
    A-6B, similar mission as above.
A-6E, departs CV-62 on Strike mission to destroy the Soviet fleet at Rostock
KA-6D Tanker (only used in air-to-air refuelling training missions)
E-2C Hawkeye, departs CV-60 USS Saratoga on AEW mission close to East German (IG) border (AI mission only)
FA-18A, departs CV-60 USS Saratoga on CAP mission North-East of Rostock
    USAFE
F-111F, en route from RAF Lakenheath(UK) on Strike mission to destroy Soviet fleet at Rostock (returns to Jever Airbase, West Germany)
F-4G, departs Diepholz Airbase on SEAD mission to penetrate border defences and destroy SAM sites prior to strike force arriving
A-10A, departs Fassberg Airbase on Strike mission to disable enemy defences at Laage airbase
    RAFG
Harrier GR3, departs RAF Wunstorf on Strike mission to disable enemy airbase at Laage
F-4M, departs RAF Gütersloh on Strike mission to disable enemy airbase at Laage

    Warsaw Pact Forces
Mi-24 Hind, departs Laage Airbase on Intercept mission to multiple radar threats approaching from the West
MiG-29C, departs Laage Airbase on Intercept mission to radar threats from the North and also from the West
SU-27 Flanker, departs Pütnitz Airbase on Intercept mission to multiple radar threats approaching from the North-West

    Prerequisites
The prerequisites for this set of missions are extensive. However, this time I have written the README as a HTML file with links provided to each one, so they're easy to find.

It's worth remembering that stock WOE does not contain enough of the correct types of NATO or Warsaw Pact aircraft or ground objects required to model such a complex scenario as portrayed by this Operation, especially for the era I have chosen (i.e. 1979).

Enhancements to the Types file (to complement the targets additions)
NATO briefings (for each type of mission, includes detailed planning map)
Warsaw Pact briefings (for each type of mission)
    Comprehensive Installation Guide (i.e README)

  24. "Yowza"

This is the original version of "Red vs. Blue," which was given the working title of "yowza." Aircraft from every era battling in the skies over Southern California.

For this mission to work, you need the following:

    scal terrain
    F-16A_10
    MiG-28
    MiG-15
    F-86F
    F-14A
    F-15C

This mission is a joy to see if everything falls together right. The F-86s knew to go after the MiG-15s the first time I played it. The second time I got to see a MiG-28 get shot down by a Sabre because it was dumb enough to try playing chicken.
