  3. [Fictional] Corsair GR.1 - RAF South East Asia Command

    BAC/Vought Corsair GR.1 for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2:VIETNAM

This is a very simple mod of the stock Third Wire A-7B to give a fictional BAC/Vought Corsair GR.1 with markings for No.8 and No.20 squadrons of RAF South East Asia Command.

    BACKSTORY

The UK General Election of October 1964 saw a new Labour government slip into power with a slender four-seat majority but this did not deter their planned shake-up of the UK Defence Budget. Whilst many observers felt that the TSR.2 programme would survive until at least the 1965 April budget it was not that great a shock when the axe fell earlier than expected in November 1964 with a bland announcement that a three-month study period of the RAF's tactical strike and recconnaisance requirements would be immediately started as part of a much broader Emergency Defence Review.

The Emergency Defence Review of February 1965 concluded that the RAF needed a more flexible force and recommended a mix of aircraft with a small force of sophisticated all-weather tactical strike aircraft, a much larger force of tactical attack machines plus an improved interceptor-fighter force equipped with longer-range aircraft than the totally inadequate Lightning.

Whilst initially ordered as a replacement for the Hunter the Spey-enginned Phantoms already on order (thanks to an order placed by the outgoing Conservative Government in February 1964) were now allocated to air defence duties to replace the Lightnings in the UK and RAF Germany squadrons. For the tactical strike role it was no surprise that the F-111 was ordered but, like the Phantoms, with Spey engines which soon hit many of same problems encountered by the Spey-Phantoms.

For the RAF's tactical attack role almost no one foresaw the purchase of Ling-Temco Vought's VAL contender (later designated A-7 Corsair II) as it had only just been selected, literally days earlier, by the US Navy as their A-4 Skyhawk replacement. The UK Government simply couldn't resist putting the non-afterburning Spey into their version of the Corsair but, thankfully, this was a much happier marriage and LTV had actually already planned their A-7 to use this engine as an insurance policy and to be able to offer an export version of their promising design. As some sort of feeble compensation to BAC for the loss of the TSR.2 the UK Government negotiated with LTV a manufacturing licence for BAC to licence-build all British production aircraft although this
was more of a final assembly deal plus partnering on all European and Commonwealth sales which actually became quite lucrative for BAC.

Development moved swiftly and apart from minor delays due to the substitution of the TF-30 for the Rolls-Royce Spey RB.168-2A turbofan engine the only other delay was caused by the substitution of the Colt Mk12 20mm cannon for British 30mm Aden (with reduced round capacity) and progress was certainly helped by having the prototypes built and test-flown in the USA and the British Corsairs simply slotted into the very smooth and highly successful LTV Corsair programme that saw the A-7A move from operational requirement to squadron service in three years. Entering service as the Corsair GR.1 in early 1968 the aircraft was extremely popular in RAF service and served until late 1991 after seeing service in Desert Storm.

    INSTRUCTIONS

    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the CorsairGR1 folder into your Aircraft folder.

    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the CorsairGR1 folder into your main Decals folder.

  4. [Fictional] Republic Thunderchief S.1 (RAF & RAAF bonus skin)

Republic Thunderchief S.1 for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2

This is a very simple mod of the stock Third Wire F-105D to create a fictional Thunderchief in service with the Royal Air Force in the 1964 to 1973 timeline. In addition, a bonus RAAF 'anti-flash' white skin is included together with an RAF SEAC skin.

    BACKSTORY

At the onset of the fatigue problems suffered by the Vickers Valiant in 1964 it wasn't only the RAF that urgently looked for a quick replacement. With the October 1962 Cuban Missile crisis relatively fresh in their minds, the American administration led by LBJ realised that a quick infusion of European striking power was required and authorised the transfer of a batch of 39 F-105D-25's from US stocks to the RAF and these arrived in December 1964 under "Operation Hastings" (later discovered to be an American jibe at the incoming British Prime Minister Harold Wilson).

Entering service with No.207 squadron at RAF Marham in February 1965 the Thunderchief S.1 soon also re-equipped No.49 and No.148 squadrons (also based at RAF Marham) and were initially armed with American Mk28 (B-61) free-fall tactical nuclear bombs before switching to the UK WE.177B in late 1966. Due to their relative short range the Thunderchief S.1's were regularly deployed to RAF Germany until the Victor K.1 tanker force had built up in sufficient numbers. In RAF service the Thunderchief suffered from a high attrition rate and the type was never popular with pilots and began to be supplanted in RAF service by Blackburn Buccaneer S.2's in 1968 with the remaining Thunderchiefs being transferred to RAF South East Asia Command before being retired in 1973.

    INSTRUCTIONS

    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the ThunderchiefS1 folder into your Aircraft folder.

    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the ThunderchiefS1 folder into your main Decals folder.

  5. [Fictional] Hawker Hunter FGA.9A RAF 'Desert Pink'

Hawker Hunter FGA.9A for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2

    This is a very simple mod of the stock Third Wire Hawker Hunter FGA.9 to give a fictional Hawker Hunter FGA.9A fighter-bomber aircraft as it might have appeared in service with the Royal Air Force during the 1960's to early 1970's period with RAF Middle East Command and 'what if' markings are included for;

    No.8 Squadron

    No.20 Squadron

    No.43 Squadron

In reality, all three squadrons have an association with operating the FGA.9 in the Middle East area during the 1960's but I've banged them together as a three-squadron wing and clad them in this 'Desert Pink' scheme initially adopted in 1961 for the Kuwait Crisis and then kept for their extended operations in Aden and Dhimar.

    INSTRUCTIONS

    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the HunterFGA9A folder into your Aircraft folder.

    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the HunterFGA9A folder into your main Decals folder.

  6. [Fictional] Mikoyan-Gurevich-Hawker Falchion F.Mk1 for SF2

    Mikoyan-Gurevich-Hawker Falchion F.Mk1 for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2

This is a very simple mod of the stock Third Wire MiG-15 to create a fictional licence-built MiG-15 in service with the British Peoples' Republic Air Force as the Falchion F.Mk1. I'm delighted to use Stary's new MiG-15 cockpit in this little bit of fluff and nonsense. Please note that this mod requires you to have Expansion Packs 1 and 2 as the MiG-15 was 'bonus content' if you had both but you could quickly juggle things around to use the MiG-15bis if you've only got Expansion Pack 1.

    INSTRUCTIONS

    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the Falchion folder into your Aircraft folder.

    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the Falchion folder into your main Decals folder.

  9. [Fictional] F-23I 'Karesh' (Shark)

    F-23I for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2

    This is a simple mod of Dels' excellent F-23A 'Black Widow' to give a fictional F-23I 'Karish' (Shark) of the Israeli Air Force with markings for;

No.110 squadron - The Knights Of The North Squadron in a 'Fossil Grey' scheme.

No.113 Squadron - The Knights Of The Twin Tail Squadron in a 'Fossil Sand' scheme.

    BACKSTORY

With the success of the McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom and F-15 Eagle in Heyl HaAvir service the Israeli's were hoping that the Northrop/McDonnell Douglas F-23A 'Black Widow' would win the USAF's ATF competition to continue their relationship with the McDonnell team at St. Louis but unfortunately Lockheed Martin's victory in the ATF competition looked like bringing an end to a long and enduring partnership.

However in a brave move, in May 1991 the Northrop/McDonnell Douglas team secured permission from Congress to actively market the F-23 to (State Department) 'approved' nations and offered a single-seat multi-role version called the F-23I (International) to Germany, Japan, Israel and the UK. With Germany looking for any excuse to get out of the Eurofighter consortium and facing high reunification costs they persuaded the UK to team up in a combined purchase of 200 F-23I's. In return, this led to the German and UK Governments persuading Northrop/McDonnell Douglas to make BAe and MBB prime sub-contractors for any further export sales.

However, with only 200 F-23I's on order Northrop/McDonnell Douglas were not convinced that it was enough to launch a viable programme but the breakthrough came in January 1994 when the USAF agreed to purchase 100 F-23A's for PACAF (the air component of United States Pacific Command) and this move finally saw Japan and Israel also join the programme with 100 F-23I's each.

    INSTRUCTIONS

    1. Drop the F-23I folder into your Aircraft folder.

    2. Drop the ROMAH folder into your Weapons folder.

    3. Sprinkle the contents of the Decals folder into your main Decals folder.

  11. [Fictional] F-104I 'Kohav' (Star) for SF2:Europe

    F-104I for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2

This is a simple mod of the Third Wire Lockheed Starfighter F-104G to give a fictional F-104I 'Kohav' (Star) of the Israeli Air Force with markings for No.119 squadron - "The Bat Squadron". As this download relies on the stock Third Wire F-104G LODs then you must have SF2:Europe where TK has thoughfully left them for us.

    INSTRUCTIONS

    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the F-104I folder into your Aircraft folder.

    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the F-104I folder into your main Decals folder.

    SKINS/MARKINGS

I wanted to capture the look of the early Mirage IIIC's in Israeli service and saw a photograph of a No.119 squadron machine with red/white rudder stripes and a red fin marking and decided to copy that. As there are no hi-res squadron patch images for No.119 squadron I designed by own, I hope you like it!

  12. [Fictional] F-100I 'Shavit' (Comet) for SF2

    F-100I for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2

    This is a simple mod of the stock Third Wire F-100D to give a fictional F-100I 'Shavit' (Comet) of the Israeli Air Force with markings for;

No.117 squadron - 'The First Jet Squadron' in a natural metal scheme.

No.253 squadron - 'The Negev Squadron' in a USAF SEA scheme (as transferred from USAF stocks in October 1973).

This should work in any SF2 game featuring the stock Third Wire F-100D but has only been tested in a merged install of SF2/SF2V/SF2E/SF2I.

    BACKSTORY

The F-100 Super Sabre in Heyl Ha'Avir service.

Despite a very smooth test and development phase North American Aviation's superb F-107 unexpectedly lost out to Republic Aviation's F-105 Thunderchief in the competition for a new supersonic fighter-bomber
for TAC. By early 1959 the end of the F-100D production line was now in sight and with the F-108, B-70 and A3J (Vigilante) programmes now on the far horizon North American Aviation needed to stretch the F-100 Super Sabre programme out to plug the gap and urgently proposed a variety of F-100 variants to several friendly nations, including Israel, Japan and the United Kingdom.

In April 1959 the Israeli government signed for 50 F-100I's (a minimum change variant of the F-100D) and the first of these entered Heyl Ha'Avir service in February 1960 replacing the obsolete Gloster Meteors of
No.117 squadron. The 'Shavit' was a popular machine in Heyl Ha'Avir service and served with distinction during the 1967 'Six-Day' war but losses were heavy during the early days of the 1973 'Yom Kippur' war and
two small batches of ex-USAF F-100D's were accquired as attrition replacements allowing No.253 squadron to re-equip with the F-100D before finally retiring the type in November 1977.

    INSTRUCTIONS

    1. Drop the F-100I folder into your Aircraft folder.

    2. Sprinkle the contents of the Decals folder into your main Decals folder. If you haven't got a Decals folder

  13. F-107 Ultra Sabre for SF2/V/E

    F-107 Version 2.0

    Thanks to the following folks:

TK - For the ThirdWire series of sims.
Bunyap - The original modder who created the F-107 MAX file and released it to Dave.
Dave - For providing the original model to me, decals, texture updates, loading screens
    Klavs81 - Original textures
dwcace - For providing me with additional reference material
    EricJ - F-107C textures
    Gerwin - F-16 decals
    BPao,MoonJumper,Swede,Wpnssgt - F-16 cockpit, avionics
To my fellow Combatace moderators - For helping me beta test and work out bugs.
Any errors or mistakes are entirely mine.

    What you will need first:

    For the F-107A:

Strike Fighters 2/Vietnam/Europe - One of these are needed to provide the wing fuel tanks, some decals, and an F-105 cockpit.

(Optional) Strike Fighters Project 1/Strike Fighters Gold/Wings Over Vietnam/Wings Over Europe to provide the F-104 cockpit.

The F-107A will currently not work properly with Strike Fighters 2:Israel or Wings Over Israel (13 Jan 10) due to lack of a compatible cockpit, some decals, visual effects, sounds, ejection seat and fuel tanks from the F-100D.

    For the F-107C:

Strike Fighters 2/Vietnam/Europe/Israel patched to Dec 2009.

    Aircraft Information (F-107A):

    From Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_American_F-107

The North American F-107, nicknamed "Ultra Sabre", was North American Aviation's entry for a United States Air Force tactical fighter-bomber design competition of the 1950s. The F-107 incorporated many innovations and radical design features, and was based on the F-100 Super Sabre. The competition was eventually won by the F-105 Thunderchief, and the F-107 prototypes ended their lives as test aircraft.

The F-107A was originally designed as a tactical fighter-bomber version of the F-100, and was entered into a competition sponsored by the Air Force. Originally designated F-100B, the aircraft featured a recessed weapons bay under the fuselage, as well as an all-moving vertical fin and a control system which permitted the plane to roll at supersonic speeds.

The aircraft's most distinguishing feature is its Variable Area Inlet Duct, mounted in an unconventional position directly above and just behind the cockpit, which automatically controlled the amount of air fed to the jet engine. The air intake was moved from the chin position (an arrangement later adopted for the F-16) to the unusual dorsal location as the USAF had required the carriage of an underbelly semi-conformal nuclear weapon. The original chin intake caused a shockwave that interferred in launching this weapon. The implications this had for the survivability of the pilot during ejection were troubling. It also severely limited view to the rear, although this was not considered terribly important for a bomber aircraft, it is notable during an era when it was assumed air combat would be via guided missile exchanges outside visual range.

Extensive design changes resulted in its redesignation from F-100B to F-107A before the first prototype flew.

The F-107 was never given an official name, but was sometimes informally called the "Ultra Sabre," referring to North American's earlier fighter designs, the F-86 Sabre and the F-100 Super Sabre. The flight crews referred to it as the "Man Eater," in reference to the position of the air intake directly above the cockpit.

The designation "F-107A" was the only one assigned to the aircraft, though "YF-107A" is often used in publications.

    (F-107C):

The F-107A had been chosen for development vs the F-105 and had started to be used extensively in Vietnam in 1967.

Israel does not do the preemptive strike as originally planned in 1967, and therefore what would have been the SiX-Day War instead draws out into a much bloodier conflict.

During that conflict, a nuclear weapon is detonated, touching off a small exchange of nuclear weapons, contained within the middle east area.

As a result, most of the oil fields are contaiminated, and the global economy suffers a depression as a result.

The US government is unable to generate the revenue needed to fully fund the F-14/F-15/F-16 programs. Instead, it invests in technological and engine improvements to existing designs, resulting in the F-107C instead of the LWF program, with the F100 engine, a new canopy and avionics.

    Notes and Limitations:

Part of the SWOTUSAF series of aircraft.

Because the real aircraft never proceeded beyond the prototype stage, loadouts, mission capabilities and operational paint schemes are projections only.

3 skins are provided for the F-107A the original prototype scheme, a natural metal scheme, and a Vietnam era scheme. An F-16 style scheme was designed for the F-107C.

Because this aircraft was in competition with the F-105, we projected that it would have taken over the Thud's role in Vietnam, in addition to the air superiority/interceptor role the original F-100 was designed for. So loadouts reflect this.

The aircraft refers to some decals, visual effects, sounds, ejection seat and fuel tanks from the F-100D. The cockpit is based on a single engine fighter with a radar using the J75...either the F-104 or F-105 works fine...it defaults to the F-105 cockpit. You will have to install any other cockpit yourself.

The FM is mainly based on the F-100D, and so shares that FMs limitations. The real test article reached 2.35 Mach...this model has gone up to 2.2 Mach in level flight.

Animations for the canopy and air refueling probe use Animation control keys 1 and 2. Check your Controls page to figure out what keys you need to hit.

C:\Users\<Name>\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2 folder and go fly.

    Disclaimer
This file is an "as is" package. Bongodriver had a HD crash and lost the WIP files. So he is going to start over and add the pit and other things he was planning to with this one. He was kind enough to allow me to go ahead and upload what he had accomplished with Sundowner.

  19. [Fictional] BAC Thunderstrike S.2 (TSR.2)

BAC Thunderstrike S.2 for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2

This is a simple mod of bongodriver's outstanding BAC TSR.2 to give a fictional Thunderstrike S.2 strike aircraft in service with No.213 Squadron of the RAF during the 1970 to 1991 timeline.

    INSTRUCTIONS

    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the THUNDERSTRIKE_S2 folder into your Aircraft folder.

    2. From the DECALS folder sprinkle the contents into your main Decals folder.

    3. From the EFFECTS folder move the three 'Olympus' files into your Effects folder.

    4. From the PILOTS folder move the TSRSeat folder into your Pilots folder.

    5. From the SOUNDS folder move the two 'Oly' files into your Sounds folder.

    6. From the WEAPONS folder move the two Martel folders into your Weapons folder.

    COCKPIT

Please note that this mod uses a slightly modified stock Phantom pit with the pilot position altered and the air-to-air modes disabled. Cockpits and Avionics are not my thing so I'm open minded to any suggestions
for improvements but please note that I do like to make my mods as simple as possible so rivet counters need not apply.

    CREDITS

BIG THANKS to TK for the continuous improvement of a great little game/sim.

Massive thanks to bongodriver for bringing the TSR.2 to the Third Wire Community. Genius! It's impossible to improve on his outstanding TSR.2 add-on so this version is just a different flavour.

Equally massive thanks to sundowner for the awesome skins on this version and, indeed, on all the TSR.2's.

And, finally, thanks to everyone in the wider Third Wire community.

  20. Royal New Zealand Airforce 'what could have been' F-4 Phantom II Pack

What if? Royal New Zealand Air Force F-4 Phantom II Pack for Strike Fighters 2 Israel or SF2I merged with any other SF2 title.

Fact: In the late 1960’s when New Zealand was deciding on what aircraft to replace its Canberra’s with the F-4E Phantom was at the top of every list compiled by the RNZAF and, with Australia equipping with the F-4 at the time, was the likely choice for the RNZAF. However the politicians intervened as they always do and the Skyhawk was chosen due to its much lower cost per unit allowing us to get more for less.

This pack represents what the F-4 may have looked like in RNZAF service through the years. The Aircraft is the F-4E model however I have given it a ‘K’ designation as it is common for the RNZAF to change the designating letter on aircraft it uses to a unique one (I know ‘K’ is already used by an F-4 model but humour me).

Includes 5 separate Aircraft that follow a similar upgrading path to other F-4 Phantoms and the RNZAF A-4K Skyhawks:

-The F-4K_70_RNZAF which is the basic F-4E model.

-The F-4K_73_RNZAF which has been upgraded with leading-edge slats.

-The F-4K_76_RNZAF which has flare and chaff dispensers added.

-The F-4K_Kahu_86_RNZAF which has an upgrade similar to what RNZAF A-4K’s had in 1986 but using the F-15C radar, avionics, HUD, ECM, RWR, upgraded weapons capability and a fixed in-flight refuelling probe.

-The F-4K_Kahu_2000_RNZAF which is further upgraded from the 1986 aircraft with F-15E radar, avionics, HUD, ECM, RWR, further upgraded weapons capability, upgraded Pratt & Whitney PW1120 turbofan engines and reduced weight ( this upgrade is similar to what was done on the F-4 Terminator 2020 with the engines from the proposed Boeing Super Phantom).

    UPDATED 19/06/10

    -Threat library for RWR updated.

    -Gun piper updated.

-Pilots updated to ones wearing RNZAF uniform and flight gear.

-Engine performance on F-4K 2000 updated

  21. [Fictional] Sud-Ouest Farandole II (MiG-15bis)

Sud-Ouest Farandole II for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2

This is a simple mod of the stock Third Wire MiG-15bis masquerading as a fictional Sud-Ouest competitor and rival to the Dassault Mystere IIC. Naturally, you will need the Strike Fighters 2 Expansion Pack One as it contains the MiG-15bis and also the Mystere IV pit.

    BACKSTORY

When the straight-wing Sud-Ouest Farandole I lost out to the Dassault Ouragan they quickly schemed an improved swept-wing version known as the Farandole II utilising the same Hispano-Suiza Nene 104B engine. Working at speed the Sud-Ouest team flew the first prototype in October 1950 and the scintillating performance soon attracted the Armee de l'Air who ordered 150 production aircraft almost immediately (leading to the cancellation of the Dassault Mystere IIC). Entering service in November 1952 the Farandole II soon became considered as an interim type (as Dassault had got his own back by getting the Mystere IV selected by the US Government for off-shore procurement) but served until 1960 with the Armee de l'Air and
until 1974 with the Heyl Ha'Avir of Israel (the only export customer).

    INSTRUCTIONS

    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the Farandole_II folder into your Aircraft folder.

    2. From the DECALS folder sprinkle the contents into your main Decals folder.

    3. From the WEAPONS folder move the FARANDOLE_TANK folder into your Weapons folder.

    COCKPIT

Please note that this mod uses the Mystere IV cockpit as it is single-enginned and French.

This is a simple mod of Foxmonter's superb Pulqui II to give a 'what if' Piranha - Paran's first indigenous jet fighter. 1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the Piranha folder into your Aircraft folder.

    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the Piranha folder into your Decals folder.

  24. [Fictional] Dassault Mirage IIIC - Irish Air Corps

Dassault Mirage IIIC 'Irelande' for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2

This is a very simple mod of the stock Third Wire Mirage IIIC to give a fictional Irish Air Corps Mirage with equally fictitious markings for No.1 'Black Velvet' squadron.

    INSTRUCTIONS

    1. Drop the Mirage_3C_IAC folder into your Aircraft folder.

    2. Sprinkle the contents of the Decals folder into your main Decals folder.

  25. [Fictional] Gloster Meteor F.8 (C.4) Ejército del Aire

Gloster Meteor F.8 'Ejército del Aire' for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2

    This is a very simple mod of the stock Third Wire Meteor F.8 to give a fictional Meteor F.8 (C.4) in service with the Ejército del Aire with markings for;

Escuadron 113 - In RAF Camo

Escuadron 121 - In Silver (or natural bare metal)

Escuadron 122 - In Desert Camo

If you wanted all three escuadrons in natural bare metal or camo it would be easy to swap things around and a 'patch' PSD is included to help you make the changes or to help you introduce your own favourite escuadron.

N.B. I've used the Meteor F.8 designation as slotting the Meteor into the Spanish Fighter designation system is a bit difficult as it should predate the F-86 Sabre which had the C.5 designation so I've used the C.4 designation actually allocated to the HA 1109/1110/1112 (the Spanish version of Messerschmitt Bf 109) as that type was also designated in the first series as well as the current second series.

    INSTRUCTIONS

    1. Drop the METEOR_F8_ESP folder into your Aircraft folder.

    2. Sprinkle the contents of the Decals folder into your main Decals folder.

Do not just move the folder! You must empty the contents in.
