  1. [Fictional] McDonnell Douglas F-4N 'COAN' for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2

McDonnell Douglas F-4N 'COAN' for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2
This is a very simple mod of the stock Third Wire F-4N to give a fictional Phantom F-4N 'COAN' as it might have appeared in service with the Comando de Aviación Naval Argentina and includes fictional markings for the 2nd Escuadrilla Aeronaval de Caza y Ataque (2nd Fighter/Attack Squadron).

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the F-4N_COAN folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the F-4N_COAN folder into your Decals folder.
    3. From the GROUND OBJECTS folder drag and drop the BernardinoRivadavia folder into your Ground Objects folder.*
    4. From the PILOTS folder drag and drop the PILOT_COAN into your Pilots folder.
    5. From the WEAPONS folder drag and drop the AM39 folder into your Weapons folder.
    * You'll really need to add 'ArgentineNavy' to the limited nations section of the ICELANDNA_NATIONS data.ini (which you'll need to extract). Doing this yourself will allow you to align the Argentine Navy to a 'colour' of your choice.

    CREDITS
As always, thanks to Third Wire for a great little game/sim.
Thanks to Ravenclaw007 for the AM39 Exocet missile - as soon as I saw the textures I knew who to thank!
And, finally, thanks to everyone in the wider Third Wire community.

  2. [Fictional] Yakovlev Yak-130F for Strike Fighters 2

Yakovlev Yak-130F for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2
This is a simple mod of the Yak-130 by UllyB to create a fictional Yak-130F in service with the Finnish Ilmavoimat in the 2016-2030 timeline.

    BACKSTORY
At the end of the Cold War the Finnish Air Force relaxed it's policy of alternating it's combat aircraft purchases between Soviet and Western types and replaced both the Saab Draken and the MiG-21 with American F-18C and D Hornets with the F-18C's being assembled by Valmet in Finland. Soon after Finland declared that all the provisions of the Paris Peace Treaties, including those limiting the size and scope of it's armed forces, were nullified. This closed the door on Russian exports to Finland until September 2011 when, unexpectedly, the Libyan National Transitional Council cancelled Libya's order for six Yak-130 advanced jet trainers. Almost immediately, the Russian Government instructed the Irkut Corporation to offer these aircraft to Finland at a discounted and allegedly heavily subsidised price.
The six Yak-130's were delivered to the Finnish Air Force Academy in Tikkakoski with the first aircraft arriving in November 2012. Finnish Air Force officials were so impressed with the Yak-130 that they recommended to the Finnish Ministry of Defence to make a further purchase of the Yak-130 but specifically tailored to the light attack role and with the benefit of reducing the number of aircraft required for the Hornet replacement programme (later re-named as the HX Fighter Program). With input from the Irkut Corporation and the Finnish Air Force a new export version of the Yak-130 was quickly drafted and offered to the Finnish Government as the Yak-130F (F=Finlyandiya). In March 2013 Finland ordered 14 Yak-130F's for delivery during 2015 and 2016. Entering service with the newly re-formed Fighter Squadron 21 at Pirkkala in May 2016 the aircraft operate in the light attack role with a recent upgrade allowing them to use GBU-32 and GBU-38 precision guided munitions.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the Yak-130F folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the Yak-130F folder into your Decals folder.
    3. From the WEAPONS folder drag and drop all files into your Weapons folder. This simply adds some weapons to give you the loadout I've chosen but you can select whatever you want.
    That's it!

    CREDITS
As always, thanks to Third Wire for a great little game/sim.
Special thanks to UllyB & team for bringing us the Yak-130. His original read me is included.

  3. [Fictional] McDonnell Douglas F-4DA for SF2

McDonnell Douglas F-4DA Phantom (Argentina) for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2
This is a simple mod of the stock Third Wire F-4D to create a fictional F-4DA in service with the Argentine Air Force in the 1979-2010 timeline.

    BACKSTORY
During the early 1960's the Fuerza Aérea Argentina (FAA) began an ambitious plan to replace the F-86F Sabre then in service as their main interceptor-fighter. The British English Electric Lightning was briefly considered but was quickly dismissed on account of it's very short range. The Swedish Saab Draken was successfully evaluated and FAA pilots submitted a very favourable report as was the French Dassault Mirage III and it seemed likely that a decision would be made between these two competing aircraft. However, the end of the Frondizi government in 1962 and the subsequent turmoil over the next few years saw the FAA's plans put on hold but the Israeli's successful use of the Mirage III in the 1967 Six-Day War saw the FAA finally decide on the French aircraft. However negotiations with the French Government came to an abrupt end in May 1968 when Juan Carlos Onganía, fearful of a coup d'état, dismissed the leaders of the Armed Forces and cancelled the Mirage order.
The 1973 elections (the first general elections for ten years) saw Dr. Hector Cámpora elected as President with a campaign based on a platform of national reconstruction. For the FAA this meant that it's F-86 replacement plans could finally continue but with an aircraft from an unexpected source. Despite the turmoil of Argentina's recent history, the US State Department saw Argentina as a bulwark of anti-Communism in South America and US President Richard Nixon sanctioned the export of 28 ex-USAF F-4D's with deliveries to Grupo 4 de Caza starting in August 1973 and deliveries to Grupo 8 de Caza starting in January 1974. The 1976 US Presidential elections saw incoming President Jimmy Carter highlight issues of human rights and eventually secure a congressional cutoff of all US arms transfers to Argentina and the FAA found it increasingly hard to support Phantom operations except by clandestine support. The FAA used the Phantom during the 1982 Guerra de las Malvinas as a long-range strike aircraft but the FAA's lack of aerial refueling capability and the long distance from their bases dramatically reduced their ability. After 1982 the FAA's Phantom force was increasingly supported by Israel Aircraft Industries and although no additional aircraft could be sourced the remaining 17 aircraft remained in service until 2010.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the F-4DA folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the F-4DA folder into your Decals folder.
That's it! For Argentine weapons I recommend you get them from the excellent SF2 Falklands Mod (Redux) by eburger68.

  5. [Fictional] Supermarine Spitfire IXc 'Iran'

Supermarine Spitfire IXc 'Iran' for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2
This is a simple mod of the stock Third Wire Spitfire IXc to create a fictional Spitfire IXc in service with the Imperial Iranian Air Force in the 1946-1951 timeline.

    BACKSTORY
When Iran ordered Hawker Hurricanes from the UK in 1940 there was never any real hope of the order being immediately fulfilled due to the urgent wartime demands of the Royal Air Force although 10 war weary Hurricanes were transferred from RAF Middle East Command stocks during 1943. When hostilities ceased the Iranian government asked the UK government for more advanced fighters and this was agreed leading to the transfer of 26 Supermarine Spitfire IXC's from RAF Mediterranean and Middle East Command. All 26 Spitfires were delivered to the Advanced Fighter Training Group of the Flying Training School at Doshan Teppeh during 1946.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the Spitfire9cIIAF folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the Spitfire9cIIAF folder into your Decals folder.
    That's it!

  6. SF2 NAA B-45B Tornado "Gunship" What-If by Veltro2k

    SF2 NAA B-45B Tornado "Gunship" What-If Pack by Veltro2k      3/27/2021
-For SF2, Any and All (Full 4/5 Merged Reccomended)
    "Quarantine Approved - Essential Mods"
This is the release of a "What If..." variant of the North American B-45B "Tornado" light jet bomber. This version is totally fictional, but the model itself is based on some modifications performed on a few "C" models (ie: the solid nose).
This aircraft represents those as if they had entered service with the 84th Bomb Squadron of the 47th Bomb Wing. Historically, all bomber versions only served with the 47th in it's 3 squadrons.
All markings are decals, and decal randomization is TRUE. All serial numbers are spurious, but are taken from another aircraft (also a bomber) of the same year vintage. There are 12 serial/buzz numbers. Squadron color markings ARE historically correct for the 84th.
All necessary parts have been provided, with one caveat. The Mk.7 (61kt) nuclear bomb does =NOT= include the nuke explosion effect. As there are several around, you End Users (tm) may need to do some editing/renaming. I use the one from the Gunny Ordinance Pack. Other weapons include under-wing 5" HVAR rockets & rails, GP bombs, and torpedos. There are 4 20mm cannon in the solid nose. Unfortunately, due to needing a real gunsight (K-14), the bombsight won't/doesn't work. You may have to 'glide bomb' or best guess it.
When in-game, you can identify this aircraft by it's Displayed Name on the aircraft Drop Down Selector. You'll see:
    B-45B Tornado (WI)
The "WI" standing for "What If".
As is always recommended, unzip to a temp folder or your desktop to give easy access to the rest of this readme for it's install instructions. PLEASE READ THEM!!! Also, please read the "Notes" for other info, "historical" notes and some operational suggestions.
    Happy Landings!

  7. [Fictional] Lockheed F-104H Starfighter for SF2

Lockheed F-104H Starfighter for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2
    This is a simple mod of the stock Third Wire F-104G to create a fictional F-104H in service with the Fuerza Aérea Argentina in the 1968-2006 timeline and with markings for;
    Grupo 8 (SEA Camo)
    Grupo 6 (Lo-Viz Grey N.B. StartDefaultDate=1983)
    Grupo 4 (Green/Grey Camo)

    BACKSTORY
During the Spring of 1965 the Fuerza Aérea Argentina formally issued an operational requirement for a supersonic fighter-bomber to supplement and eventually replace it's F-86 Sabre force and to operate alongside the Douglas Skyhawks that were just entering service. The BAC Lightning was quickly ruled out as being short on range and undeveloped in the air-to-ground role and by the end of 1965 Fuerza Aérea Argentina officials declared that the choice was between the Dassault Mirage III and the Lockheed F-104 Starfighter. Lockheed had proposed a new variant, the F-104H, a projected export version based on the F-104G but with an optical gunsight and simplified equipment. Following a visit by Lockheed representatives to the Casa Rosada in Buenos Aires in early July 1966 the newly inaugurated President Juan Carlos Onganía announced that 36 F-104H's would be procured for the Fuerza Aérea Argentina. Entering service in March 1968 with Grupo 8 de Caza at the Military Air Base Mariano Moreno the F-104H's served until 2006 when the last Starfighters operating anywhere in the world were finally retired.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the F-104H folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the F-104H folder into your Decals folder.
That's it! I've kept the loadouts to basic stock weapons but if you have Argentine weapons in your install then it's worth editing the F-104H_Loadout.ini to suit what you have.

Lockheed Starfighter F.3 for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2
This is a simple mod of the stock F-104G to create a fictional Starfighter F.3 in service with the Royal Air Force in the 1980-1991 timeline and it includes markings for No.29 Squadron and No.56 Squadron with 18 contemporary serial numbers shared between them.
    BACKSTORY
Delays in the UK's Tornado ADV programme lead to the RAF upgrading 38 Lockheed Starfighter FGR.2's to a new F.3 standard featuring the uprated J79-GE-19 engine (developing 12,000lbs dry thrust and 17,900lbs with afterburner) and the improved NASARR R-21G/H radar with moving target indicator and continuous wave illuminator for the Skyflash semi-active radar homing missile. Entering service with No.29 Squadron in 1980 the Starfighter F.3's remained in service until 1991.

  9. [Fictional] SOKO Kometa for Strike Fighters 2

SOKO Kometa for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2
This is a simple mod of the superb Chengdu J-10A by the Insky Group to create a fictional SOKO Kometa in service with the Serbian Air Force. Two Serbian squadrons are included (101st & 241st) as well as a bonus Montenegrin Air Force skin but you'll need to add them to your nations list as they are not featured in a stock install.
    BACKSTORY
In May 1982 the government of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, led by Petar Stambolić, announced the ambitious 'Novi Avion' programme with the aim of designing and manufacturing an air superiority fighter to supplement and eventually replace the Yugoslavian Air Force's substantial MiG-21 force. SOKO (the state aircraft manufacturer) were awarded a design study contract and by 1984 their proposal had crystallized into a single-engine, supersonic fighter aircraft featuring a delta wing with a canard foreplane. The 'Novi Avion' programme seemed to mimic the Republic's move away from Communism to a market economy by becoming a much more capable multi-role aircraft and therefore more attractive to potential export customers. Whilst this did mean an unavoidable escalation in aircraft size and weight it did mean that the excellent Lyulka AL-31F engine (as used in the Sukhoi Su-27) would be a perfect match.
In May 1986 the Yugoslavian Government ordered 150 'Novi Avion' aircraft to replace both its MiG-21 and Soko J-21 Jastreb fleets and the following month saw SOKO rename the aircraft as the SOKO Kometa (Comet). Development moved smoothly during the remainder of the decade and many elements of the aircraft programme such as production facilities, mock-up, cockpit simulator, etc. had been constructed. However the start of the new decade saw the political situation in Yugoslavia worsen and by 1991 Yugoslavia had begun to disintegrate into several smaller nations. Putting a brave face on the situation, SOKO announced a postponement of the programme but also an intent to continue "as soon as possible". Production facilities were partially dismantled and relocated to Serbia with SOKO absorbing Utva Aviation Industry (based in Pančevo) who had previously worked with SOKO in the manufacturing of the J-22 Orao and also the G-4 Super Galeb.
On April 28th, 1992 the two remaining republics of Yugoslavia, Serbia and Montenegro, formed the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and President Dobrica Ćosić wasted no time in re-launching the Kometa programme. Behind the scenes, SOKO were instructed to simplify certain aspects of the Kometa and the UN economic sanctions imposed on the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia were bypassed largely by switching to Chinese avionics. SOKO worked miracles in assembling the first Kometa prototype during 1997 although the first flight would have to wait until May 1st, 1998 when Major General Dragan Mihajlović lifted off from Batajnica Air Base. In 2003 the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia became officially known as the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro but by 2006 Montenegro left the union following a referendum leading to the full independence of Serbia and Montenegro. This political instability slowed the programme even further and it was not until June 5th, 2006 that the Kometa entered service with the 101st Squadron of the Serbian Air Force.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the Kometa folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the Kometa folder into your Decals folder.
    3. From the WEAPONS folder drag and drop all files into your Weapons folder.

  10. F-113A Retaliator

    F-113A Retaliator (What if) v1.1
    *****************************************************
This mod is made for SF2NA. It based on Julhelms RA-5C Vigilante.
    ----------------------------------------------------------
    I. History
In 1960 the North American company decided to develope a fighter version of the A-5 Vigilante attack plane. The project got the designation NR-349 Retaliator.
The NR-349 Retaliator was North American's proposal for a high-performance fighter aircraft for the US military as a variant of the A-5 with three engines. A third General Electric J79 was in the shaft between the other two engines with two narrow air inlets offset backwards above the inlets of the other engines. The aircraft was to be armed with six AIM-54 Phoenix at sub-fuselage stations. The US Air Force was not interested in, but the US Navy.
The Retaliator should act as fleet defender, to intercept incoming long range bombers before they could fire their missiles on US carriers. The US Navy demanded to replace the third engine by an increased internal fuel capacity.
Four prototypes where built and the decission was made to reduce the number of Phoenix missiles.
So the F-113A Retaliator came into serial production in 1965. 1966 the first units of the uS Navy got the new fighter plane.
The Retaliator was used for more than 10 years. Then it was replaced by the F-14A Tomcat.

  12. B-42A Mixmaster for Strike Fighters 2

Douglas B-42A Mixmaster for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2
This is the B-42 Mixmaster by veltro2k with some fictional 'in service' operational USAAF/USAF B-42A schemes using Third Wire's date switch to give you the USAAF starbar in 1944 to 1947 and then the USAF starbar (and nation name) from 1948 onwards. You can fly the prototype in 1944 and for gameplay reasons we've placed it in service from 1945 onwards with service years allowing for use in the Korean War (check out the night scheme) and all operational schemes have new nose art decals.
The unique feature of the B-42 is, of course, it's twin bubble canopies and this caused some problems when 'in cockpit' as panning to starboard cannot accurately show a real world view of the right-hand canopy, the co-pilot and his cockpit so it's a bit of a compromise which we trust you will accept. If anyone can suggest any improvements in the cockpit view then let us know.
It's likely some of you will want to do your own skins for favourite squadrons or perhaps for export versions so a template is included and we'd love to see your results!

    The B-42A Mixmaster is brought to you by;
    B-42 3D Model - veltro2k
    B-42A Skins/Decals - Spinners
    B-42A FM and ini's - Wrench

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the B-42A folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the B-42A folder into your Decals folder.
    3. From the WEAPONS folder drag and drop the enclosed folders into your Weapons folder.
    4. From the SOUNDS folder drag and drop the enclosed sound file into your Sounds folder.

  13. SF2 Mirage 4000M and M2

This aircraft mod represents Dassault's what-if Mirage 4000M naval figthter and its dual seat M2 variant in the French Navy service.
This package comes with 2 skin sets for each variant, 2 squadron specific for M (15 planes), and 2 sets for single squadron (6 planes) for M2.
This model is meant for SF2 games only, SF1 variants will be uploaded at the SF1 section.
Install is the regular dropping the contents in their respective places. In case you have the previous variants you can skip the overwrite prompt of weapons, effects and flight folder contents as those items are identical.
Please note: The model can be quite heavy on FPS in large formations on weaker machines, so if required, either resize skin files or use lower lod(_nd) as lod1.
The model uses the general french weapons, either as part of weapon packs or the Mirage 2000 family.
Important: The M2 variant comes with 2 types of cockpit, the basic setup will use a simple pit that has only the pilots cabin instrumented. The other is a fully modeled front and rear compartment, in which you want to fly you should activate the proper line in the AC's.ini file.
    CockpitDataFile=Mirage4000M2_Cockpit.ini <---- basic setup
    ;CockpitDataFile=Mirage4000M2_Cockpit_full1.ini <------ front seat
    ;CockpitDataFile=Mirage4000M2_Cockpit_full2.ini <------ rear seat
Be aware - the piloting seat position can not be changed during/in game, so chose wisely!

  14. Fictional Mikoyan Ye-8 family

This aircraft mod represents a fictional evolution/upgrade of the Mikoyan-Gurevich's Ye-8 experimental fighter. There are several wing designs, systems and weapons that were under experiment during the 60-70-s though these are not actual replications of them  and the pits are pure fictional using equipment/instruments of that given time frame.
This package comes with 1 or 2 skin set for each variant, with decals for Soviet aircraft.
This model is meant for SF2 games only.
Install is the regular dropping the contents in their respective places. In case you have the previous Ye-8/M pack the contents of the Effects, Decals, Guns and Pilot folders not need to be copied over.
Please note: The model might gets heavy on FPS in large formations on weaker machines, so if required, either resize skin files or use lower lod "_nd" as lod1.
New weapons are provided - some type specific - beside these the model uses the general Soviet weapons.
Be aware - In the 1970's and later when AA-8 can be selected, manually double loadout of these can happen.
Make sure to read the manual included with the package.

  15. [Fictional] Hawker Hurricane Mk.1 'Yankee Squadron'

Hawker Hurricane Mk.1 'Yankee Squadron' for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2
This is a simple mod of Raven's early Hawker Hurricane Mk.1 to create a fictional Hurricane Mk.1 in service with 'Yankee Squadron' of the Spanish Republican Air Force in the 1938-1939 timeline.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the Hurricane1spr folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the Hurricane1spr folder into your Decals folder.
    That's it!
Please note that the nation name has been set to 'SPAIN' and you should amend this to suit your install and preferences.

    CREDITS
As always, thanks to Third Wire for a great little game/sim.
Special thanks to Raven for his awesome work on the Hawker Hurricane in all it's forms and for generously including his templates.

  16. [Fictional] Sukhoi Su-24P 'Fencer' for SF2

Sukhoi Su-24P for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2
This is a simple mod of Veltro2K's Su-24 'Fencer' to create a fictional Su-24P in service with the Republic of Paran Air Force in the 1980-2020 timeline.
Please note that this Su-24P is released 'as is' (in response to a request) and it really needs some additional work on loadouts and the skin. In addition, the 3D model unfortunately has some 'rope' issues so you might want to turn shadows off.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the Su-24P folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the Su-24P folder into your Decals folder.
    3. From the WEAPONS folder drag and drop the PTB-3000P folder into your Weapons folder.
    That's it!

    CREDITS
As always, thanks to Third Wire for a great little game/sim.
Special thanks to Veltro2K for bringing so many cool aircraft to Strike Fighters including this one.

  17. [Fictional] de Havilland Vampire FB.7 for SF2

de Havilland Vampire FB.7 for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2
    This is a simple mod of Pasko's Vampire FB.5 to create a fictional Vampire FB.7 in service with the Royal Dhimari Air Force in the 1950 to 1962 timeline with markings for the following three squadrons;

    No.6 Squadron - 'The Eagles'
    No.11 Squadron - 'The Rams'
    No.13 Squadron - 'The Antelopes'
Whilst we now have Third Wire Vampires I hope this version is of interest to those who don't have that particular expansion pack and it also allows me to use Stary's lovely Vampire cockpit.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the VampireFB7 folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the VampireFB7 folder into your Decals folder.
    3. From the WEAPONS folder drag and drop both folders into your Weapons folder.
    That's it!

    CREDITS
Thanks to TK for the continuous improvement of a great little game/sim.
Special thanks to Pasko for this superb add-on aircraft (one of his many).
Thanks also to Gramps for the desert camo skin and also to Don (C5) for the FM which works just fine in SF2.

Thanks to Stary for the Vampire cockpit.
And special thanks to everyone in the wider Third Wire community.

  21. [Fictional] Hawker Hurricane 'Furacão'

Hawker Hurricane 'Furacão' for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2
This is a simple mod of Raven's radial engined Hawker Hurricane to create a fictional 'Furacão' in service with the Poruguese Air Force in the 1942-1954 timeline.
    BACKSTORY
The Hawker Hurricane entered service with the Royal Air Force at the end of 1937 when No.111 Squadron re-equipped with the type at RAF Northolt. By late 1938 the production capacity for Hurricanes at the Hawker Siddeley Aircraft group of companies was sufficient not only to meet the needs of the RAF's ambitious expansion scheme but also sufficient to allow exports to Yugoslavia, South Africa, Romania, Persia, Belgium, Poland and Turkey. Belgium and Yugoslavia had both negotiated production licences but only a handful were produced by Avions Fairey in Belgium before the German invasion in May 1940 and in Yugoslavia the Zmaj factory managed to build 20 Hurricanes before the German invasion in April 1941.
At the start of World War 2, Portugal was keen to both maintain it's neutrality and also bolster it's defences - recognising that the Portuguese mainland was of strategic importance as was it's island territories of Maderia and the Azores. Indeed, both the UK and Germany considered invading the islands but British diplomacy won the day in June 1940 when the UK formally asked for use of the Azores by invoking the Aliança Luso-Britânica (Anglo-Portuguese Alliance) of 1386 which is still the oldest alliance in the history in the world that is still in force. In return, Portugal asked for a wide variety of defence equipment from the UK including "100 modern monoplane fighter aircraft". With the UK facing a desperate struggle the Portuguese 'wish list' was largely unfulfilled until much later in the war but in December 1940 the British government agreed to supply 100 Hurricane fighters by the end of the following year.
However, there was an urgent demand for Rolls-Royce Merlin engines for the RAF's day fighters and also for the Boulton & Paul Defiant and Bristol Beaufighter night fighters. In addition, RAF Bomber Command were about to go on the offensive with the Handley-Page Halifax having just entered service and the superlative Avro Lancaster and de Havilland Mosquito were both on the horizon. In February 1941 the British Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, blocked the sale outright but Sydney Camm at Hawker considered that the Hurricane airframe could be adapted to take a different engine and Camm was already aware that Roy Fedden of the Bristol Engine Company had developed a modular engine installation or 'power egg' for the Bristol Hercules radial engine. Fedden and Camm quickly schemed the Hercules powered Hurricane Mk.III and instructed the Gloster Aircraft Company, who had been manufacturing Hurricanes for the RAF on behalf of its parent company since 1939, to slot in 250 Hurricane Mk.III's onto the Hucclecote production line. Whilst there was no Hurricane Mk.III prototype as such, the first two production aircraft were thoroughly tested by Gloster's chief test pilot Gerry Sayer and also by Bill Humble of Hawker's and both praised it's flying characteristics noting that "the aircraft is simple and easy to fly and has no apparent vices" although the stalling speed was 8 knots higher than a standard Hurricane.
The first 100 Hurricane Mk.III's were crated and shipped to Portugal arriving at Santo Amaro in November 1941. After local assembly, they were flown to Ota Air Base and Sintra Air Base to eventually equip six day fighter squadrons of the Aeronáutica Militar (Army Aviation) although, at the time, these squadrons (typically, with 15 aircraft on strength) were confusingly classed as 'flights' with two-digit flight codes that were used to designate the squadron. 'SU' Flight were the first to be declared operational at Ota in April 1942 followed by 'MP' flight at Sintra. In Aeronáutica Militar service the Hurricane aircraft were locally known as the Furacão and remained in service even after the formation of the Força Aérea Portuguesa in 1952 and it was not until August 1954 that the Furacão finally passed from service.
    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the Furacao folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the Furacao folder into your Decals folder.
    3. From the WEAPONS folder drag and drop the FuracaoTank into your Weapons folder.

Convair F-102J Delta Dagger for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2
This is a simple mod of Veltro2K's F-102A to create a fictional F-102J in service with the Japanese Air Self-Defense Force in the 1957-1977 timeline.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the F-102J folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the WEAPONS folder drag and drop all folders into your Weapons folder.
That's it! For sheer simplicity, this mod uses stock Third Wire F-4EJ decals.

  23. [Fictional] Hawker Hunter FGA.9D (Desert Camo)

Hawker Hunter FGA.9D for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2
This is a simple mod of the stock Hunter FGA.9 to create a fictional Hunter FGA.9D in service with Royal Air Force Middle East Command in the 1961-1972 timeline. It's really just a Hunter FGA.9 with a desert camo (two squadrons are featured; No.43 Squadron and No.112 Squadron with a sharkmouth) but it looks cool when on emergency deployment to Dhimar!

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the HunterFGA9D folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the HunterFGA9D folder into your Decals folder.

  24. Su-21S/P "Flagpole"

When the Su-21S, codenamed "Flagpole" by NATO, appeared in 1978, it surprised the West which initially thought the plane to be just another failed Flagon update experiment or a testbed for systems of the recently identified Ram-L or Ram-K aircrafts.
It turned out to be a long endurance PVO interceptor, possibly meant as an interim or low-cost alternative to these new designs, using a clearly Flagon inspired but brand-new airframe and, according to some intelligence, reusing existing systems to mitigate development risk.
The aircraft is purported to use a single uprated R-35 derived from the one already used in PVO Floggers for propulsion, also borrowing the MiG-23P's radar, albeit with a larger antenna and more powerful emitter and using R-24 and R-60 missiles (up to 4 of each for a total of 8). It has been seen using up to 3 large drop tanks to accomplish its goal of long endurance patrol in the defence of the central and eastern regions of the USSR. Going against the trend of recent PVO-only interceptors, the Su-21 has 2 internal guns, sources suggesting these to be weirdly old-fashioned NR-30 with a hundred rounds each, as well as what seems to be decoy launchers.
This surprisingly elegant design was joined in 1980 by a dual-seat version, initially thought to be a trainer, but proving to be another interceptor, the Su-21P. While the single-seater Su-21S became a not too uncommon sight on the Soviet Western frontier, the Su-21P was almost absent, being more common on the other borders, the exact operationnal reason remains unclear as these planes seem to be otherwise identical.
Recent sightings suggest that the plane might not be a PVO exclusive as what are thought to be Su-21s were spotted in AV-MF colours, but not enough is known at present.

    NOTEWORTHY OBSERVATIONS
    - As it was started as an AI only asset for my own use, I kept the original F-15 cockpit.
    - Likewise, as an AI only asset for my own use, I haven't taken the time to produce hangar and loading pics.
    - I did the minimal amount of modification to the INI.
    - All skins can be used on both variants if you want to switch things around.
    - I have included AV-MF inspired skins in the Su-21P folder, for those that might be interested (waves at Stratos), they should be considered a not so hidden easter egg.
    - PSD templates specific to this Soviet version should be released alongside.
    - Read the damn READ ME for install.
    CREDITS
Everyone at Cocas Aircraft Factory for their work on the plane, and especially Cocas for listening to my whin... errrr... suggestions and always nicely doing what I was pestering him to do (the guy is just too nice for his own good) and to Nyghtfall for giving us the templates without which I probably wouldn't have bothered to do something in a releasable form.
    AmokFlo for the ejection seats.
The Trooper for the pilot reskin.
(I believe) PauloPanz for the Dark Blue Soviet numbers decals.
    (I believe) Lindr2 for the R-24 and R-60.
Any error or omission is just that, feel free to correct me if I forgot or misattributed anything, everything should be under the CA Fair Use umbrella unless I messed up.
    Have fun and good flight

  25. [Fictional] Douglas Dakota C.3 - RAF Desert Camo

Douglas Dakota C.3 for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2
This is a simple mod of the stock C-47A to create a Dakota C.3 in service with the Royal Air Force in the 1948-1967 timeline. Of course, the Royal Air Force were a big user of the Dakota but not in this fictional desert camo scheme which is loosely based on the original Lockheed Hercules C.1 scheme of the very early 1970's (quite an odd scheme for the times). It is flyable and RECON has been added as a secondary role so that you fly low-level recce missions and watch those MiG's stall and crash!

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the DakotaC3 folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the DakotaC3 folder into your Decals folder.
    That's it!

    CREDITS
As always, thanks to Third Wire for a great little game/sim.
Special thanks to gerwin for this lovely desert camo to which I've simply added black undersides and decals.
Special thanks also to russouk2004 for bringing us the smashing C-47A cockpit.
