  2. F-19 Stealth Fighter

    F-19 Stealth Fighter
    September 13th, 2022 (1st Release)
    by Julhelm, Dels and Menrva
    >For Strike Fighters 2 games
This is a rework of Julhelm's fantastic F-19 stealth fighter 3d model, now featuring a centre strut canopy structure (thanks to a cheap trick of repainting the bubble canopy glass) and a new cockpit, a purposely modified F-117A cockpit by Dels.
Among the improvements, it now features proper hit boxes and collision points, proper location for position lights and landing gear lights, reworked skins, aircraft characteristics and loadouts meant to resemble the ones of Microprose's F-19 Stealth Fighter game.
It still features two internal weapon bays (unlike Microprose's exaggerated four bays), but with properly reworked limits; you can have 4x Sidewinders or 3x AMRAAMs per bay, 2x bombs or AGMs depending on their overall weight and size. A 20mm cannon is on the nose with 680 rounds, and an extra 1,900 lbs fuel cell has been added for a total of 11,800 lbs of fuel; non-afterburning engines are used for stealth reasons. An (invisible) arrester hook has been added as well, since Microprose's version could also operate from aircraft carriers.
Skins feature the 83-019 serial number and an F letter on the vertical tails; these two details come from a picture of a menu screen in one of the releases of Microprose's F-19 Stealth Fighter game, where you could choose between an F-19 or an F-117A. More serial numbers couldn't be featured as the 3d model of the aircraft does not support decals without decal bleeding issues. Just imagine piloting the only example of F-19 in very black operations!
Three new skins were created: a Prototype Black skin created from the specular texture Julhelm had made, and Desert and Arctic camo skins made by modifying the USAF Euro camo skin created by kblomkvist.
NOTE: Strike Fighters 2 has no proper IRST functionality, so for the purpose of launching AMRAAMs a very basic ACM radar mode has been added to the avionics file of the aircraft. Moreover, the default cockpit features an obtrusive front strut which makes the cannon difficult to use. You can activate an alternative cockpit LOD in the relative INI file.
    >What-if Backstory
During the development of the Have Blue demonstrators, Lockheed's Skunk Works division also conceived a third experimental stealth aircraft featuring an entirely different shape, rounded fuselage and wings, and meant to have air combat capabilities. The CIA got wind of it, classifying it at the highest possible level and using it as a cover-up story for the stealth aircraft that came to be the F-117A Nighthawk. In 1986, the Testor Corporation released a plastic model aircraft kit, calling it the "F-19 Stealth Fighter". Jane's All the World's Aircraft 1987-88 book listed an RF-19 as a Lockheed development project. The conceptual drawings of it were generally similar to Testor's design. In 1988 a combat flight simulator game, F-19 Stealth Fighter by Microprose, was released just moments before the public unveiling of the F-117A Nighthawk attack aircraft, which is said to be what it sought to represent. The reality is that a single F-19 existed and, during secret flights over Groom Lake, this experimental aircraft showed unique strength and was deemed a super-aircraft. Due to its funding and mantaining costs, the project was officially abandoned in 1983. Unofficially, this single example of F-19 took part in black operations all over the world until 1997. It is named F-19A Nightowl, internally nicknamed "Flying Frisbee" for its rounded shape and also referred to as "Ghostrider" for allegedly being affiliated with the 416th TFS Ghost Riders flying the F-117A Nighthawk.
"The view would have been frightening to most men, there were solid clouds overhead at 4000 feet. He flew through the showers, he more heard than saw on this black night and the dark outlines of the trees appeared to reach up and snatch at his speeding fighter. Only a madman would be so low on such a night. 'So much the better' he smiled in his oxygen mask" - Tom Clancy's Red Storm Rising

    >Credits (in no particular order):
-Julhelm, for creating this well-made 3d model of the F-19.
-Dels, for his kindness in reworking the F-117 cockpit following my request.
-kblomkvist, for his USAF Euro camo inspired by Tom Clancy's Red Storm Rising book.
-guuruu, for sharing his RWR symbols improvement mod and for his improved sound files.
-simonmiller416, for his smokeless rocket effects mod.
-Crusader, for the more realistic weapons data for AIM missiles.
-TaktischesGenie, for his suggestions and chats we've had about the F-19 concept.
-My girlfriend, for supporting me in all of my endeavours.

  3. [Fictional] Yak-41M 'Freestyle' Ukrainian Armed Forces

Yakovlev Yak-41M for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2
This is simple mod of Gabilon's Yak-41 'Freestyle' to create a fictional Yak-41M in service with the Ukrainian Naval Aviation and the Ukrainian Air Force. Gabilon created his Yak-41 in 2007 (his first 3D model - Chapeau!) and Fubar512 improved the FM and those improvements are duly incorporated here along with a few modifications by me.
    Three new Ukrainian skins are included;
    1. Ukrainian Naval Aviation in a blue splinter scheme for maritime operations.
    2. Ukrainian Air Force in a 'Flygvapnet' splinter scheme for tactical operations.
    3. Ukrainian Air Force in a modern (boring) grey scheme.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the Yak-41M folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the Yak-41M folder into your main Decals folder.
    3. From the SOUNDS folder drag and drop both the sound files into your main Sounds folder.
    4. From the WEAPONS folder drag and drop all four weapons folder into your main Weapons folder.
    That's it!

    CREDITS
Thanks to Third Wire for a great little game/sim.
Thanks to Gabilon for creating and uploading his Yak-41 back in 2007.
Thanks to Fubar512 for his FM tweaks.
And thanks to everyone in the wider Third Wire community.

  5. [Fictional] Douglas A-4D Skyhawk 'USAF'

Douglas A-4D Skyhawk 'USAF' for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2
This is a very simple mod of the stock Third Wire A-4E to give a fictional USAF A-4D with markings for the 416th Tactical Fighter Squadron ('The Silver Knights') in 1967 although the service years are a more generous 1964 to 1985.

    BACKSTORY
During the Spring of 1961 the incoming Secretary of Defence Robert S. McNamara left no stone unturned in his search for efficiencies in procurement and operational costs and his attention soon turned to the successful Douglas A4D 'Skyhawk' programme. Douglas had already transformed their 'bantam bomber' by replacing the Curtiss-Wright J65 engine with the Pratt & Whitney J52-P6A engine and the forthcoming A4D-5 (A-4E) version was chosen as the baseline for a minimum-change version for the USAF. Designated A-4D (after the introduction of the tri-service
designation system) the USAF Skyhawks saw extensive service at home and abroad and, in particular, served with distinction in Vietnam where they replaced a variety of tactical aircraft.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the A-4D folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the A-4D folder into your main Decals folder.
    That's it!

Thanks to Third Wire for a great little game/sim.

  7. BC-304 Daedalus-Class Battlecruiser

Hi there everyone, I joined combatace almost 10 years ago and, after several attempts I finally managed to make this monstrosity. The mighty BC-304 Daedalus-Class battlecruiser from the Stargate franchise.
It is the second generation of interstellar Earth warships made integrating alien reverse engineered technology obtained in the operations of the Stargate Command during the previous 8 years. It includes:
    - 28 automatic railgun turrets around the ship.
    - 16 VLS missile in the front deck silos, armed with conventional HE warheads or tactical nuclear ones. The range of this missiles are 150+ km. Since there is no name for these missiles I made it up as SSM (Standard Space Missile).
    - Advanced Trinium-Naquadah alloy armour (Steel with lots of hitpoints).
    - Reverse engineered sublight engines (that uses this naquadah as fuel, making the TSFC=0.01 as it possess a huge amount of energy so don't worry about consumption :) ).
    - Antigravity drive which substitutes the landing gear allowing you to hover at about 300 meters above the ground. Now you can stay above the tanks shooting down Beagles, watching how enemy AAAs fail trying to shoot you down muahahaha.
    - Shield generator that covers the entire ship, "theoretically" absorbing the damage before it reaches the ship itself.
For those who are also like stargate franchise, no, I haven't made the also mighty Asgard Plasma Beam upgrade, but I will try to do something in future releases.
I also included several skins of the different ships that appeared in the franchise:
U.S.S. Daedalus - The first to be commissioned for USAF which is assigned to assist Atlantis expedition in Pegasus Galaxy.
U.S.S. Odyssey  - The second to be finished which remains in Earth.
B.F.R. Korolev  - Commissioned almost simultaneously with the Odyssey, given to the Russian Federation in exchange for the operations of the stargate.
U.S.S. Apollo   - The second to be assigned to Pegasus Galaxy.
C.N.S. Sun Tzu  - The first ship to be given to People's Republic of China.
U.S.S. Hammond  - The last known to be commissioned for United States, originally was going to be called Phoenix but they changed the name to honour the first General in charge of Stargate Command, George Hammond, after passing away.
U.S.S. Phoenix  - The name given to that ship in alternate realities.

    Some notes about this model:
I don't fully understand the damage mechanics in this game, so despite of the fact that this ship
have "advanced force fields" that withstand several tactical nukes, sometimes you can get shot
down by the rear gun of a Tu-95.
Since it is a very big ship (650m long) all the 28 railguns have difficulties aiming at small targets due to
the offset of the guns. But they still hit big targets such as other spaceships of the same size, and
sometimes big bombers like Tu-95. Anyways, if someone knows how to improve this, suggestions and ideas are
    very welcomed!
The flight mechanics have been "developed" from FastCargo's F-35B, my goal was to have vertical
takeoff and landing functioning but I have not managed to achieve that properly.
This "plane" is quite special to fly, it has a 100+ times bigger inertias than the F-35 so don't
expect to dogfight with fighter jets, just wait until they crash in your force fields :)
Also, take into account that the size of this aircraft is such that you can not fly in regular squadron
formations as it crashes with the other ships. It is ment to fly alone in air combat missions (however
I would like to implement air to ground warfare in next versions).
It has no cockpit, I just put it in the place of the bridge. I will try to do my own cockpit in the future.
If you are wondering where I took these F-302 of the screenshots, they are from the A-Team Skunkworks. They
also have the Death Glider so if you get it from there you can recreate some pretty good stargate battles!
********Any commercial use of this mod is CLEARLY FORBIDDEN!!!

CREDITS for the material that made this possible:
    - FastCargo's F-35 that I used as a base for the INIs.
    - Effects included in Stary's EE3 for SF2 series used for the nuclear explosions in both ground and air.
I know that this material also involve more people who put their best effort on it, I want to thank them sincerely, and also the people involved on the Viper afterburner effect that I was unable to track. I hope I haven't missed anybody!
Also I would like to thank the modding knowledge in combatace which helped me to make this possible.

    And finally!
The model itself is incomplete, I still have to add some parts like the communication deck and the sensors array and many more things, but Christmass time is over so I decided to upload what I have made.
It is my first serius mod after having joined Combatace 10 years ago, after several attempts of doing sci-fi stuff, and now I finally managed to make this "living insult to aerodynamics".
I really hope you enjoy it and of course I am opened to suggestions and feedback as this model is not perfect by far (a lot of things are not adjusted, it lacks more testing, it is like flying two carriers in a simulator not ment to do that, etc.).
All things said, have fun! :)

  8. [Fictional] Boeing/Mitsubishi F/A-18M & F/A-18M2 Super Hornet for the JMSDF

This is a mod of the Super Hornets E & F from EricJ to make them look like fighter planes from the japanese maritime self defense force.

    BACKGROUND:
The JMSDFs new carrier, the Shinano, which does service in the surroundings of the japanese homeland, was equipped with F-14EJs. In 1999, the 81st Hikotai stationed on the carrier was reinforced with two additional hikotais, the 23rd and the 31st. The JMSDF obtained the Hornet at the same time as the JASDF. Under the designation F/A-18M and F/A-18M2, the F/A-18M2 replaced the F-14EJs of the 23rd and 31st Hikotai while the F/A-18M got designated to two new hikotais, the 3rd and 14th. At the same time, the JMSDF started introducing a new system of serial numbers adjusted to the new ship type.

Instead of the standard four-digit serial number system, the planes and helos of the carrier received a new system consisting of the jap. abbreviation for aircraft carrier (kubo), the hikotai number and finally the plane number.

Also, as a part of the new system, the fuselage wears the designation and the name of the vessel the plane is stationed on; just like in the US Navy.

The Shinano was declared DCV (defender carrier vessel) because the aircraft carrier was an offensive weapon according to the japanese constitution. Using the word "defender" allowed the possession of an aircraft carrier.

  10. [Fictional] Eurofighter EFJ Typhoon

This is a mod of the EF-2000 Typhoon from Bongodriver to make it look like fighterplane from the japanese air self defense force.

    BACKGROUND:
In March 2007, the JASDF opened a competition for the next generation plane. Among the competitors are the Super Hornet, the F-35 and the Typhoon. The Rafale was not part of the competition because of the fear, that american planes could be favourized. Nevertheless, Eurofighter threw the Typhoon into competition. There will be no decision until November 2011(Janes Information Group).

The EFJ Typhoon represents a possible version of the japanese Typhoon in the case it should become the winner of the competition. The plane will enter service in 2013 becoming part of the 3rd and the 6th Hikotai, replacing the single-seater F-2. While the 3rd Hikotai wears the standard grey camo, the 6th Hikotai wears the standard two-tone blue camo also worn by the F-2.

Fictional mod of Julhelm great A/F-24 to create a fighter plane for the japanese air self defense force.

    Background:
Japan wanted to replace their ageing F-4EJ planes from the 302nd Hikotai. In order to be able to perform attacks without prior detection by the enemy, Japan was interested in buying the F-22. Resulting too expensive for their budget, the Pentagon offered Japan the Shadowcat as a cheaper solution. The JASDF named their plane 'Oni' (Demon) which was the sensation the plane should cause at the enemy.

  18. [Renewed] Boeing/Mitsubishi FA-18FJ Super Hornet

This is a mod of the Super Hornet F from EricJ to make it look like fighterplane from the japanese air self defense force.

    BACKGROUND:
In 2011, the actual minister of defense, Toshimi Kitazawa, wanted the air force to be more powerful and well equipped than they are now. Even the F-2 and the F-15J and DJ seemed not to be modern enough. Kitazawa was of the opinion, with the rising of China and the becoming dangerous of northern Korea, the air force as main line of defense had to grow in strength.

During that same year, Japan and the US signed a contract over more than 120 planes, primarily F-Type, of the Super Hornet. Being modified by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries for being capable of using the modern japanese missiles.

Being odd at first sight, the new aggressor camo of the first squadron to receive the plane reflects the mood of its pilots, showing the enemy that there will be no retreat..just like Samurai. The unperfect camo concerning some stains along the colour borders are wanted and shall recall the japanese calligraphy.

The first planes will enter service in 2012 in the 8th, 302nd, 303rd and 305th Hikotai.

    INSTALLATION:
Simply drop the Folders into your Strike Fighters Mods Folder.

  21. F-4 Phantom II in Royal New Zealand Air Force service ('What If')

F-4 Phantom II in Royal New Zealand Air Force service ('What If')

    Background (factual):

In mid 1964 Operational Requirement No. 5/Air called for a tactical combat aircraft to replace the Canberra. Specifically a long range aircraft with the primary role of counter-air/interdiction and secondary roles of close air support and air defense.

In June 1965 The Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice-Marshal (AVM) Morrison was quoted as wanting 18 F-111 aircraft for the RNZAF at a cost of £1.5 million per aircraft. The public and media supported the idea but the Chief of Defense Staff (who was a Naval Officer) and the acting Prime Minister publicly opposed the purchase.

In August 1965 the Chiefs of Staff Committee rejected the idea of acquiring long-range interdiction aircraft and in September agreed that close air support should be the primary role of the new combat aircraft.

In December came Air Staff Requirement No. 12 with the following requirements of the new combat aircraft:

    - Ability to provide effective air support to ground forces.
    - Highly reliable and robust
    - Self defense capability to evade or counter supersonic interceptors and surface-to-air missiles.
    - Long range.
    - Ability to operate closely with American and Australian forces.

By May 1966 the RNZAF had finished evaluating six candidate aircraft:

    - F-4C Phantom II
    - A-7A Corsair II
    - Mirage IIIO
    - F-5A Freedom Fighter
    - F-104G Starfighter
    - A-4E Skyhawk

In August 1966 the RNZAF officially asked the government to purchase 16 F-4 Phantoms at a total cost of £19 million.

Now remember AVM Morrison making it known he wanted the F-111? He would later go on to admit he never wanted the F-111 he had wanted the F-4 all along but given the cost of the F-4 he wanted to make it look more attractive (cost wise) by putting it next to the F-111.

The minister of Defense then announced the final stage of the evaluation had been reached and a decision was a few weeks away. The purchase of the F-4 seemed to be all but done...

BUT the Treasury department now intervened and recommended purchasing the F-5! The RNZAF High Command was furious! But ultimately powerless to halt the path to purchasing the A-4 Skyhwak that had just begun.

Over the next year the RNZAF, Cabinet Defense Committee, Treasury, the Finance Minister and the Chief of Defense wrangled over purchasing the F-4 or an alternative (F-5 or A-4). Then at the end of 1967 the New Zealand Currency was devalued and a squadron of F-4 Phantoms was now instantly out of New Zealand’s price range. It was either 11 Phantoms or 16 Skyhawks. So the Skyhawk it was.

So if the Treasury Department hadn't intervened in the procurement process towards the end of 1966 it seems entirely likely that New Zealand would have placed and order for the F-4 Phantom II at the end of that year!

And so I give you the F-4D Phantom II in RNZAF Service 1969 to 2002.

I chose the F-4D as when the order would have likely been placed in late 1966/ early 1967 the F-4D was the current USAF production model as the first of the F-4E models were only just being built as part of the USAF F-4D contract.

The RNZAF F-4D models are built to the same standard as the last USAF F-4D coming off the production line in the late 60's. However like the A-4K in real life they are 'fitted for but not with' ECM/ RHAW equipment. This means the wiring, sensors and cockpit RHAW display are installed but the actual 'black box' control units are not.

The reason for this (as in real life with the A-4K) was not an economy measure as most references state (including the Third Wire manual) but because the equipment was in such demand by US forces for use in Vietnam. So the aircraft were delivered without them but with the intention of fitting them at a latter date. However that day simply never came and this is possibly where the additional cost of purchasing/ installing them played a part in it not happening.

The Kiwi F-4D Phantoms are capable of caring the full range of the USAF Phantom arsenal including first generation smart weapons. However only the Mk 82/83/84 series bombs and unguided rockets are used by the RNZAF. For the air-to-air role the SUU-23/A gunpod, AIM-7E and AIM-9E are chosen with the AIM-4 Falcons performance in Vietnam causing the RNZAF to steer well clear of it.

    Four separate Aircraft:

F-4D Phantom II RNZAF - Initial aircraft delivered in 1969 fitted for but not with ECM/ RHAW equipment.

F-4D Phantom II (72) RNZAF - By 1973 the redundant RHAW display has been removed from the cockpit as well as the empty IRST pod under the nose that was to house the RHAW gear.

F-4D Phantom II (78) RNZAF - Second hand attrition aircraft from USAF stocks delivered in 1985 in preparation for the project Kahu upgrade of the fleet.

F-4D Phantom II (88) Kahu RNZAF - In 1986 a comprehensive $140 million upgrade program is undertaken. Known as project 'Kahu' the heart of the upgrade is replacing the old AN/APG-109 radar with the modern AN/APG-66(NZ) multi-mode radar. The cockpit is modernized with glass displays, HOTAS and a Ferranti wide-angle HUD. Survivability in increased with the ALR-66 RWR and ALE-40 countermeasure dispensers. The MIL-STD 1553B databus and Litton Industries LN-93 inertial navigation system are also installed. The airframes and engines are completely stripped down and given a life extension with almost all of the aircraft wiring replaced. A smoke abatement system is added along with low voltage formation lights.

The aircraft also receive armament upgrades including the capability to fire AIM-9L, AIM-7M, AGM-65B/G and GBU-10 Paveway II laser-guided bombs. The old F-4 Phantom external center drop tanks are also replaced by the F-15 600 gallon HPC tanks as on USAF Phantoms. By the end of 1991 all New Zealand and ex USAF Phantoms have been upgraded to the 'Kahu' standard.

    Requirments:

you will need one of the SF2 games with the F-4D as well the Third Wire DLC A-4K Skyhawk for the decals.

    Bonus:

Included in a separate folder is a RNZAF F-4D for use with the SF2V Air & Ground War Expansion Pack. This is the Kiwi F-4D fitted with the required ECM and stores for operations in the Vietnam War.

  23. [Fictional] IAI/Grumman F-14I Petten (Cobra)

This is a mod of TMF's F-14B (96) to make it look like a multirole aircraft from the israeli air force.

    BACKGROUND:
Being impressed of the interception capabilities of the F-14 combined with the AIM-54 Phoenix, the IDF decided to order themselves a modified version of the F-14B, the bombing capable version of the Tomcat. Modifications were performed by IAI. The modifications also needed the AIM-54C to be modified.

Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, the national arms manufacturer, created, based on the construction plans of the Phoenix, the 'Serpent' LRAAM, which design was identical to the Phoenix but with israeli electronics inside. The missile was extensely tested over the mediterranean sea and proofed to be equal to the AIM-54 concerning performance, reliability and accuracy. Primary role was the interception of incoming enemy planes from seaside long before reaching the coast and secondary role was Strike and Anti-Ship-Missions.

Two squadrons got equipped with the 'Peten':
The Valley Squadron (109th) grey camo
Flying Dragon Squadron (115th) desert camo

  25. [Fictional] General Dynamics F-111A 'Early TAC'

General Dynamics F-111A 'Early TAC' for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2
This is a very simple mod of the superb F-111A by FastCargo to represent a fictional 'earlier timeline' version of the F-111A entering service in 1965 with service years restricted to 1965 to 1967 inclusive.

    BACKSTORY
Perhaps the three technical breakthroughs that came together to make the F-111A (the swing-wing, the afterburning turbofan and solid-state devices) came together just that little bit earlier leading to the corresponding earlier drafting of SOR-183 and the resultant TFX competition thus predating McNamara and the distraction of 'commonality' and the Naval F-111B.

    INSTRUCTIONS
Firstly, please make sure you've got the F-111 SuperVarkPack for the tanks and weapons bay mounted gun. Got it? Good!
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the F-111A_TAC folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the F-111A_TAC folder into your Decals folder.
    3. From the SOUNDS folder drag and drop the TF30_DRY AND TF30_WET files into your Sounds folder.
    That's it!

    CREDITS
As always, big thanks to Third Wire for the continuous improvement of a great little game/sim.
Massive thanks to FastCargo for the full and complete F-111 family. The F-111 Super Vark Pack by FastCargo gives comprehensive thanks to everyone who has played a part and his credits include thanks to Norman Knight for the F-111 pit.
And, finally, thanks to everyone in the wider Third Wire community.
