      the faith in allowing SFP1 to mature and grow.

      ========================================================================================

      NOTES:

      A. This mod is primarily intended for WOV, but was tested in & will work for the earlier SFP1 series
      Sims.

      B. v1.8 Changes since the earlier versions in IAF MiG Pack v1.6:

      1. As SFP1 becomes more difficult to find, WOV compatibility is crucial. Cockpits of the earlier
      versions were based on the stock SFP1 F-104G. This has been changed to the A-4B & A-4C pits common to both
      SFP1 & WOV. Both pits are a stopgap until the SFP1/WOV modding community releases proper MiG cockpits.

      2. Availiblity of WOV allows for the more accurate MiG-21PF .LODs as opposed to the earlier PFM LODs in
      order to reflect the fact the Type 76 was based on the Soviet MiG-21PF, and the Type 77 based on the Soviet
      MiG-21FL models. Type 74 continues to use the MiG-21F .LODs. IAF 23mm Gunpod continues to be a compromise
      until such time as a proper GP-9 gunpod is introduced. Droptanks for the Type 74 & Type 76 MiGs are deleted.
      It is known that the Type 74 used some form of IAF availible non-Soviet droptank, but we still
      haven't been able to determine which one. Soviet 490 ltr tanks were only introduced with the Type 77.

      3. In keeping with further research, all the IAF MiG-21 series now have working Radar Warning Recievers. IAF
      MiGs were originally fitted with Serina 2 rear hemisphere RWRs then further upgraded.

      4. The Indians were initially very skeptical of the MiG-21P ( Fishbed-Cs with the 30mm guns removed ) that the
      Soviets initially offered for sale. IAF pilots demanded & got the Soviets to jury rig a GP-9 Gunpod to the Type
      74 Migs before delivery to India. Type 76 Migs were also supposed to recieve this modification, but the 1965
      India-Pakistan War broke out before this could be carried out. During the War, IAF pilots of the 28th "1st
      Supersonics" Sqdn saw extensive service. Due to a lack of AA-2 missiles, the Type 74s used the gunpod exclusively
      in battle, while the scarce AA-2 Atolls were reserved for the gunless Type 76 MiGs. Fortunately for the Indians, the
      Pakistanis also suffered from a shortage of AIM-9B Sidewinders for their F-86F-35 Sabres & F-104A Starfighters.
      After the 1965 War, the IAF quickly replaced both the Type 74 and Type 76 MiGs with the Type 77s. Soviet Doctrine,
      which had favored missiles at the expense of guns on fighters, was changed by the combat experiences of the Indians
      in 1965, and the North Vietnamese during the 1960s...

      ========================================================================================

      Enjoy!

    14. A-4H "Ahit" Beta v1.3

      For those who have downloaded Sundowner's Israeli A-4F skin pack and want an Israeli A-4 to put them on, this kit provides the files to convert a copy of the A-4F into the Israeli A-4H. As such it's a work around until we get a proper Israeli A-4H/N.

      ===========
      -4H "Ahit" Beta v1.3 Readme
      =======================

      1. This version corrects the ECM & clarifies the droptank data.

      2. This is a "Quick & Dirty" conversion of the ThirdWire A-4F to an Israeli version.
      As such, it will enable you to operate an "Israeli" advanced Skyhawk until such
      time as a proper A-4N Skyhawk II can be built.

      3. You must have SFP1 ( Patched to SP3.1 ) or WOV w/Patch 2 in order to use this mod.
      You must also have the most current Weapons Pack with Updates in order for the
      guns to work. This mod assumes that you also have Sundowner's Israeli Skyhawk
      skin package already downloaded ( Availible from http://www.combatace.com/ ).
      As well as ThirdWire's A-4F Skyhawk ( Also at CombatAce ).

      =======================

      INSTALLATION :

      A. Make a copy of your A-4F aircraft Folder. Rename this to A-4H

      B. Add the A-4H config.ini, the A-4H data.ini, the A-4H loadout.ini, and the A-4H
      Loading.bmp to your new A-4H folder. The A-4H folder should now be placed in your
      Strike Fighters/Objects/Aircraft , or your WOV/Objects/Aircraft folder.

      C. If you want Sundowner's Israeli camoflage tanks to show in the A-4H Loadout screen,
      add the following entry :

      [WeaponDataXXX]
      TypeName=Tank300_A4IDF
      FullName=Israeli 300-gal Drop Tank
      ModelName=tank300_a4ais
      Mass=989.500000
      Diameter=0.650000
      Length=6.020000
      AttachmentType=
      NationName=
      StartYear=0
      EndYear=0
      Availability=0
      BaseQuantity=0
      Exported=FALSE
      ExportStartYear=0
      ExportAvailability=0
      WeaponDataType=5
      MaxFuelAmount=884.520020
      Asymmetrical=FALSE

      This enables your Israeli Camo droptanks to show up as the default tanks for this aircraft.
      You must add this data to your weaponsdata.ini ( make sure than the WeaponData number is the
      next one in sequence ), then save the weaponsdata.ini using the SP3 Weapons Editor.

      Note :

      You should also have Sundowner's tank entry in your weaponsdata.ini if you wish to use his
      tanks with Israeli skins for the A-4E & A-4EL :

      [WeaponDataxxx]
      TypeName=Tank300_A4
      FullName=Israeli 300-gal Drop Tank
      ModelName=tank300_a4ais
      Mass=989.500000
      Diameter=0.650000
      Length=6.020000
      AttachmentType=
      NationName=
      StartYear=0
      EndYear=0
      Availability=0
      BaseQuantity=0
      Exported=FALSE
      ExportStartYear=0
      ExportAvailability=0
      WeaponDataType=5
      MaxFuelAmount=884.520020
      Asymmetrical=FALSE

      ================================================

      v1.3 Changes to the A-4H from the A-4F :

      1. the 20mm cannon are replaced with DEFA 30mm cannon ( each with 150 rounds ).

      2. the tailhook has been disabled ( Israel doesn't have carriers ).

      3. an early model chaff dispencer & flare dispencer has been added. Jammer strength increased.
      ( Note that the jammer strength is toned down in v1.3. The initial strength of 48 was
      entirely *Too* effective. )

      4. Sundowner's IDF skins are set up as default skins. Same with his droptanks. Note that there
      should be two tank entries in the weaponsdata.ini for use with both A-4E & A-4H.

      5. Aircraft nationality is changed to Israel.

      6. Wrench's Canopy Mod now included.

      7. Wrenchs IAF Skyhawk1 Hangarscreen also included.

      Enjoy!

    15. A-4K LATE

      RNZAF SKYHAWKS;

      There is no real A-4K models made so these three use the closest Thirdwire models. These models are for WOX versions of Thirdwire games.

      If you have any Thirdwire WOX games and you extract all the required .lod files they will work in SF2 series games. However the SF2 models have been very much updated from WOX versions and look much,much better and have greater detail. Plus I am curtainly working on those SF2 models to bring A-4k's into SF2 series.

      These three models all use Truck-Lo's cockpit which is available in the Combat-Ace download section and included, plus can also be modded to use the A-4AR's cockpit as well. I do not know how different the A-4AR's cockpit is from the A-4K's cockpit, but believe to look at they are very similar.

      INSTALL;

      You just need to copy or drag and drop the aircraft into your Aircraft folders and tanks to be installed in the usual way. Note I do not know who made the green A-4K tank, because it has alway been there in my weapons folder. I think it may have come from Bunyaps Weapons orginally. It is also included in 331Killerbees pack.

      I have tinkered with the weapons loadout files a little and they may not be totally correct, feel free to amend if you want. They are set for fun rather that relistic.

      First model is A-4K Euro 1 which based on the stock Thirdwire A-4F, RNZAF A-4K's where late model A-4F without the tail top pod. Where originally painted in SEA camo, see A-4K SEA in Combat-Ace downloads which I painted for Truck-Lo. The Euro Camo came later, I cannot remember the date, then another upgrade happened and the hump became reduntant and was removed, I used Thirdwire A-4E, closest match. Then New Zealand brought A-4G from Austrailia sometime after the Austrailan Navy retired its last carrier. On entering service in NZ the A-4G's only had their markings and numbers changed, they remained in the tone grey camo. I've released as SF2 model only, not included here. Later the A-4K's and A-4G's where all upgraded to A-4K Kura, Hawk in English, and where all painted green.
      The A-4K Green 1 skin is fictional.I was playing around one wet weekend.

      Feel free to mode as you like but must remain Freeware. I have no problems with that and you do not need my permission to change, improve on and release. This is what makes ThirdWire and its Forums so great and helps it to keep going, for over seven years I think I read somewhere.

      Thanks to TK, Thirdwire

      To Truck-Lo

      To Bunyap and 331Killerbee

      And to Marcfighters, I used your A-4F Israeli model a lot as reference when I first started painting the SEA Camo. Helped me alot in find those strange parts on the templates.

      Ps, there are even more on TK's new models. I think I have found all the hinges now and where they are mapped.

      A-4N Ahit (Early) for WoI:

      This conversion kit for Wrenchs's A-4AR allows you to create an early A-4N (without the extended tailpipe).

      INSTALLATION:
      If you already have the A-4AR installed, you're free to skip steps 1 and 2.
      (1) Download Wrench's A-4AR (http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autocom=downloads&showfile=7012)
      (2) Install the aircraft. If necessary: Read the readme.
      (3) Rename the A-4AR folder to A-4N. Optional: Make a copy of your A-4AR folder and rename it.
      (4) Now delete all ini files, bmps and the skin folder. LODs, TGAs and the cockpit folder stay where they are.
      (5) Copy the content from the A-4N folder provided in this archive to the one you just have created OR simply move the A-4N folder from the archive to your aircraft folder.
      (6) Go fly and don't blame me for any inaccuracies. ;)

      KNOWN ISSUES:
      Though the real life A-4N is based on the M model, this mod uses the F model, so you have to live with the following issues:
      -wrong shape of the vertical stabilizer
      -wrong shape of canopy and windscreen
      -missing fairings and antennas
      -30mm DEFA autocannons mounted in the wing root (might be adressed in a future update)
      Please note that this mod is for WOI only, since the skin uses some stock decals.

      ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS:
      Thanks to TK for WoI and all the other great games.
      Special thanks to Wrench for creating the A-4AR. All I did was renaming and tweaking the inis and the skin, so credit where credit is due.

      Enjoy!

    21. A-4Q CANA Skin update and Ini Pak

      A-4Q Skyhawk - Skin update and ini Package for SF/WoW/WoE

      This is a complete package, including a full update of nosecone's Argentine Navy Skyhawk skin, that will recreate the A-4Q Skyhawk as used by the CANA (and/or FAA) during the Falklands War.

      What I've done is rebuild the decals ini, added a textureset ini, and completly rebuilded -from scratch- all the needed inis to recreate this aircraft. I've included nosecone's original readme at the bottom of this text file. Therefore, I can and WILL take no credit for the skins and decals. I'm just the ini dancer! Included is also my Argentine Skyhawk Hangar Screen, all set up for use in the main ini.

      == You must have the latest Weapons Pak to use the Avionics Humps and Other Weapons. Please see the "Weapons & Loadout Fixes" thread at CombatAce for more, updated weapons for the Argentine Air Forces ==

      Please see the enclosed readme for relatively easy install instructions, and some notes of interest.

      All credit to nosecone, who did the original skin -- making sure everyone knows that!!

    22. A-50_Mainstay_AWACS

      Installation

      1.After unziping the mod archive first copy the A-50 folder into:

      *\Objects\Aicraft\ folder.

      2.Then copy the content of the fake_pylon folder,except the text file into:

      *\Objects\Weapons\ folder.

      3.Add the content of weapons.txt file to the weapondata.ini file.

      4.Then start the Weapon Editor Application (WeaponEditor.exe), and load the weapondata.ini file and SAVE ! It's important.

      5.Keep in mind that this plane uses a LARGE runaway, alright ?, so any terrain which DOESN'T have at least one LARGE runaway for the ENEMY (just check the targets.ini file for airfields and runaways to be sure) it will crash the game. It took me a while to realize that but finally i did and I updated the readme for letting you all know that as well. For the time being, Madagascar terrain and Vietnam map don't have , for ENEMY, a large runaway. (In my personal setup I added one for each to be able to play there,too)

      6.If you have a favorite jet you wanna accompany you and you need fuel tanks for it, just replace the default MIG-29 fuel tank setting on the fake pylon declaration with the one you desire.

      The modded AWACS has air-to-air/air-to-ground radar (360 degrees and 200 miles radius for BOTH!) and target lock features.It can see and lock to a target which is 200nm ahead. This way you can surveillance a whole area and lots of enemy planes keeping an eye on any buggy which winds up too close to you. It also has ECM measures, missiles decoys (chaff & flares) and RWR capabilities so you will know if enemy has a lock on you or a radar guided missile is on its way to you.

      Now start the game and select, in SINGLE PLAYER, A-50 plane. DON'T load weapons for YOUR plane (the AWACS), instead, from the roster, add two (or five) more aircraft. Leave first to be the A-50. The next ones made them "escort fighters", for instance choose two MIG-25/29/31 etc. Remember, for the sake of realism you can choose just soviet planes ONLY, for others , no ammo and missiles will be available. After selecting some fighters load them in the same menu with ammo and missile and just start the flight. In this scenario the wing will behave like a bomber wing, not like a usual fighter one, so you, with the AWACS you'll be in the center and other two fighters will be on your right and on your left. Other additional 3 (if you chose 5 escort planes) will go behind in a wall formation. You have air-air radar and you can see & lock planes which are 200nm ahead! After locking a fighter for example, if that fighter goes into your path and you have just 30km to it, send first two wingmen to intercept. First two plane will behave like your wingman in fighter missions, you can give them command "attack my target" so it's important to lock on an enemy plane first,obviously. If the events heat up you can order the next three fighter from the escort (if you chose 5 in total) to move in. Just give them the command "Engage Air" and if enemy fighters are near they will engage them as well. So basically you can have two planes behaving like a single wingman and other three that will engage in the area if enemy planes are near.

      As a variation you can mix fighter and fighter/bomber planes in your escort and this way you can deal with ground threats, too. Are you nearby an enemy airbase and a SAM lock sound bothers you or an anti-air gun looks funny at you? Just search it with the "HOME" key, no matter how far/close it is and send some planes from your escort, which have antiradiation missiles (or other Air-to-surface ordnance) to take care of the problem.

      -The mod was tested on SF1 WOI but it should work fine in other SF1 games (WOV, WOE etc).

      I used the Veltro2k's E-767 avionics (AWACS 360 degrees radar this time!) and his famous A-50 Mainstay model which I found it here on the download section long ago, Pasko's Tu-16T cockpit and fake pylons. My only merit is that I just had the idea of transforming all these into an AWACS SINGLEPLAYER mode and that I tweaked it and put all together to make it work. Logan4 also contributed helping me to make the fuel indicator work (many thanks friend for that!).

      -This mode is free of charge and can not be sold by anyone. Feel free to use this mode in your future project without asking permission, just don't forget to add me to the credits list.

      North American A3J-1 Vigilante

      In November of 1953, the Columbus, Ohio Division of North American Aviation began work on a privately-funded design project for a carrier-based aircraft that would be a more capable platform for the delivery of a nuclear weapon than the Douglas A3D Skywarrior. The company gave its project the internal name of North American General Purpose Attack Weapon (NAGPAW). The aircraft was to be capable of delivering a nuclear weapon at speeds of up to Mach 2. In 1954, the NAGPAW was offered to the Navy in an unsolicited proposal.

      The Navy was suitably impressed, but added some conditions. The original NAGPAW proposal called for a low-altitude penetrator which dictated an aircraft with a small wing area with a high loading to give an acceptable low-altitude ride at high speeds. However, the Navy wanted the aircraft to have the ability to launch from a carrier even in zero wind conditions, which requires a larger wing area. The obvious solution for this problem would be a variable-sweep wing, but the Navy had gotten cold feet about variable geometry aircraft in general after the failure of the Grumman XF10F-1 Jaguar, and decided that it would be a better idea to abandon the low-altitude penetrator mission in favor of better carrier landing and takeoff characteristics. Consequently, in January of 1955, the Navy changed the requirements, making a high-altitude Mach 2 dash capability primary and a low-altitude penetration capability only secondary.

      The wing that was finally adopted was mounted high on the fuselage and had a sweep of 37.5 degrees and an area of of 769 square feet. The wing did not have ailerons--lateral control was via a series of spoilers hinged along the leading edges of the wing and deflectors arranged along the trailing edges. The inner wing trailing edges were fitted with large flaps, and the leading edges were fitted with extendible slats. The outer wing panels had hinges outboard of the control surfaces and flaps for folding for stowage aboard carriers.

      The wing was fitted with a boundary layer control system on the trailing edge, which was automatically coordinated with the operation of the wing flaps. When the flaps began lowering, the system directed high-velocity air over them, which increased the lift and lowered the angle of attack required for landing. A external pylon could be mounted underneath each wing for the carriage of an external store or a drop tank.

      The original design had twin vertical stabilizers, and this was actually how the mockup was configured when it was reviewed in March of 1956. However this was changed to a single vertical stabilizer shortly thereafter. The tailfin was a single piece pivoting slab. The amount of tail travel was restricted to 2 degrees left or right with flaps up and 8 degrees with flaps lowered to 25 degrees or more.. The vertical tail was sufficiently tall that it had to be fitted with a hinge so that the top could be folded to the left for stowage aboard aircraft carriers. An electronic countermeasures antenna, formation lights, and a fuel vent were installed in a fairing that extended from the trailing edge of the vertical fin at about 40 percent height. A radio antenna was installed inside a dielectric fairing at the extreme tip of the fin.

      The horizontal tailplanes were of the all-flying variety and were hinged at a single pivot on each side of the extreme rear fuselage. The horizontal tail could perform a limited amount of asymmetrical deflection for roll trim, but could not actually provide roll control, which was the responsibility of the wing spoilers.

      The fuselage was rather long and thin, with a radome at the very tip of the nose. For storage aboard carriers, the radome could be folded back. The aircraft was powered by a pair of afterburning General Electric J79 turbojets, mounted side-by-side in the rear of the fuselage. They were fed by individual air intakes on the sides of the fuselage. A unique feature was the use of variable geometry engine air intakes, the Vigilante being one of the first production aircraft to have this feature. They were designed to decelerate supersonic air to subsonic speed before it reached the engine air compressor.

      In order to protect against the aerodynamic heating generated by flight at Mach 2, much of the internal structure was made of titanium.

      The main landing gear members were attached to the fuselage sides, with the wheels retracting forward and rotating through 90 degrees to fit into fuselage wells. The nosegear also retracted forward. The advantage of forward retraction was that the landing gear would automatically be locked into place by the force of the airstream in the event of a hydraulic failure.

      The aircraft carried a crew of two--a pilot and a bombardier-navigator, seated in tandem underneath separate clamshell-type canopies. The pilot had a frameless, wraparound windshield, and his canopy was sufficiently transparent to provide him with a fairly good view. The bombardier/navigator had only a tiny transparent window on either side. In the mockup, the bombardier/navigator was provided with a completely transparent canopy. However, it was felt that a completely blacked-out cockpit would be more effective for viewing a radar display or for protection against the glare of a nuclear blast, and the bombardier/navigator's canopy was completely solid in later designs. Prospective bombardier/navigators protested that a completely solid canopy would cause claustrophobia, and a compromise was worked out in which a small window would be cut into each side of the canopy. The bombardier/navigator had no forward view and he had no flight controls.

      The aircraft was to be fitted with a HS-1/1A emergency escape system. The two crew members sat on individual ejector seats. The pilot could initiate the ejection sequence for both crewmen, which could be done by either pulling a face curtain or by pulling a handgrip underneath the seat. After activated, the seat would automatically pull the crewman into ejection position, after which both canopies would be blown away and a catapult-rocket system would fire and blast the crewmen up and out of the aircraft. A drogue chute then was opened to stabilize the seat, and shortly thereafter the crewman was separated from the seat and the crewman's parachute automatically deployed. The entire sequence took only 3 seconds. In the event the pilot was incapacitated, the navigator/bombardier could eject on his own. The HS-1 ejection seats were effective only at speeds above 100 knots, and were superseded in late production A-5As by the HA-1A with zero-zero capability.

      The nuclear weapon was to be stored in an internal weapons bay. The weapons bay did not have a conventional bomb bay with doors opening underneath the bottom of the aircraft, since this would make it impossible to release the weapon at supersonic speeds. Instead, the Mk 28 nuclear weapon was mounted at the end of a long duct which extended rearward between the two engines and was ejected to the rear during release. The duct exit at the rear of the aircraft was capped by a clamshell-opening door, which was later replaced by a blow-away tailcone. The weapon was integrated with two jettisonable fuel storage tanks, which were generally emptied before the target was reached. The weapon and the associated fuel tanks were released as a unit by rearward ejection through the opening at the rear. As the bomb fell toward the target, the attached fuel tanks provided stability. In addition, a countermeasures device was included in the bomb bay that could be ejected before the release of the nuclear weapon.

      The aircraft was to be equipped with a North American Autonetics AN/ASB-12 bomb direction system. It provided basic navigation and aircraft positioning. The nose was fitted with a GE Electronics multi mode radar, a North American NASARR radar computer, CCTV for daytime visual identification, a Radar-Equipped Inertial Navigation System, aand a Versatile Digital Analyzer. There was a TV optical scanner housed in a small bulge underneath the forward fuselage, just behind the radome.

      The aircraft was capable of being refueled in midair, via a retractable probe on the port side of the fuselage ahead of the pilot's cockpit.

      The aircraft had a primitive fly-by-wire flight control system in which stick movements of the stick were converted into electrical signals which fed into actuators that controlled lateral and l longitudinal movements. The actuators then mechanically positioned the control valves, the horizontal stabilizer, and the spoiler activators. There was a mechanical backup system in case this system failed.

      On June 29, 1956, North American received a letter of intent from the Navy. On August 29, 1956, a formal contract was issued for two prototypes under the designation XA3J-1, which was later changed to YA3J-1. It took about two years for the first prototype to be ready. The first YA3J-1 (BuNo 145157) was rolled out of the factory on May 16, 1958. During the rollout ceremony, it was announced that the plane was officially named Vigilante.

      The first flight of the YA3J-1 took place on August 31, 1958, North American chief test pilot Richard Wenzel being at the controls. Only a few relatively minor problems were encountered. The Vigilante went supersonic for the first time on September 5. The second prototype joined the flight test program in November.

      The first production contract was issued in January of 1959. On June 3, 1959, the second prototype (BuNo 145158) crashed when a hydraulic and electrical system failure caused the pilot to lose control of the aircraft.

      The initial A3J-1 production batches soon followed. 14 of them were employed in test flights. The 6th Vigilante made 14 launches and landings on the USS Saratoga (CVA-60) in July of 1960. Additional tests were made of the deck handling of the Vigilante.

      Initial production A3J-1s were powered by a pair of J79-GE-2 turbojets, each rated at 15,150 lb.s.t. with afterburning. Very early on, the J79-GE-4 was introduced on the production line, followed very soon by the J79-GE-8, both of which were rated at 16,500 lb.st. with afterburning.

      On December 13, 1960, an A3J-1 crewed by Cdr Leroy Heath and Lt Larry Monroe set a new altitude record of 91,450.8 feet.

      The first A3Js were assigned in June of 1961 to VAH-3 at NAS Sanford, Florida. This was a Replacement Air Group (RAG), which was used to train aircrews and ground crew maintenance people for the Vigilantes that would be operating with the fleet. The operational debut of the Vigilante was in August of 1962 when VAH-7 deployed aboard the USS Enterprise (CVAN-65) for a short cruise in the Mediterranean. Deliveries to VAH-1 and VAH-3 followed shortly thereafter.

      The linear bomb bay release method was never very reliable. The release often did not work properly, electrical connections were faulty, the ejection gun was unreliable, and there was poor separation and post-ejection stability of the store train of the bomb and two fuel tanks. In addition, it was not uncommon for the entire load to slide out of the bomb bay during a catapult launch, leaving the fuel tanks and bomb sitting on the carrier deck. Such were the difficulties encountered that the linear bomb bay system would never be used aboard aircraft carriers in fleet service.

      In September of 1962, the A3J-1 was redesignated A-5A under the new Tri-Service designation system.

      The A-5A could be equipped with a hose-and -drogue inflight refueling system using a buddy tank system housed in the linear weapons bay. The non-jettisonable system consisted of a 290-gallon buddy tank, two bomb bay fuel cells, a pump unit, and 78 feet of hose.

      The A-5A achieved a reputation of being a difficult aircraft to land aboard a carrier. Pilot inexperience and a high approach speed resulted in several ramp strikes and losses of aircraft and crews.

      In the early 1960s, the submarine-launched ballistic missile became the primary Navy strategic deterrent, and the A3J-1 no longer had a mission. In 1963, the Navy decided to halt any further procurement of the A-5A after only 59 had been built. With RA-5C deliveries beginning in January of 1964, the A-5As were removed from the heavy attack inventory and relegated to training roles. Most of them were returned to North American for conversion to RA-5C standard. Of the 59 A-5As built, 43 were eventually reconfigured to RA-5Cs.
