Note

Beware, the mod is available only in the ISO format. You can either mount it on a virtual drive, burn it on a DVD like in the good old days, or unzip it with 7-Zip or equivalent software.

The installer should automatically detect your Strike Fighters 2 installation folder. Make sure that the installation path points to your Strike Fighters 2 game folder, not to a custom mod folder. The installer does not allow you to choose a custom mod folder path at this time. The mod folder will be installed automatically in the proper "X:\Users\YourName\Saved Games\ThirdWire\" path, like any other mod folder created by TW's stock Strike Fighters 2 games. After installation is over, simply run the mod by using the created Desktop and/or Start Menu links.

If you have the previous 0.9.0 or 0.9.5 version installed, please use the uninstaller to remove it completely. Clean installation is mandatory for version 0.9.6. You might want to make a backup of the Controls folder, so that you can easily restore your controller settings afterwards.

Suggestions for CTD issues

  • Make sure that you are using your dedicated GPU. Strike Fighters 2 usually selects Intel's integrated GPU by default, but that one is not supported by this mod. Don't waste your time installing the mod on office laptops, it won't work.
  • Got to Sound and set Sound Channels to 32. We got reports that 16 is not enough and will cause CTDs on some systems, due to the higher quality sounds included within the mod.
  • Set Ground Objects to Medium or Low, Horizon Distance to Near, and Shadows to Medium or Low. These are the most troubling settings. Due to high number of aircraft and objects in the campaign, most featuring high number of polygons and 2k resolution textures, your video card can easily go out of memory in heavy load missions. Unlimited should only be selected for Texture and Effects settings, but only if you have a high-end GPU.
  • The mod currently includes Mue's terrain shaders which increase distance of TOD trees and buildings. These shaders may require more processing power. We might remove them in future releases, if it may help with performance.
  • Pray for TW/TK to work on a 64bit version of Strike Fighters 2, maybe even with support for DirectX 12. With that done, CTD issues would be an old memory.

Hi everyone; Well I've tried everything I could think off to get this version to run on my Windows 10 system with no success. Suggestions for CTD issues, followed to the letter!

It's not a Win 10 issue because I'm running all the old ThirdWire flight games on this i5 system. Game will work through all the setup screens, but crashes after loading screen to cockpit to fly!

Any one out there that has any ideas on solving this problem I'd be glad to hear from you.

From what I can see so far this version of Desert Storm is amazing!!! THANKS TO ALL INVOLVED TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN!

Eric...

A amazing piece of pure art, only possible due to the love of the modders in develop something fun, historical correct and at high level.
I just want to say thank you guys, its a pleasure to fly, to see, to listen...again, thank you.

(Sometimes I got crashes/ctd´s at loading, even with my hardwire being powerfull and quite above the minimum specs,I  dont blame the team, I totally understand the engine issues, age and etc.)

Great mod! Absolutely wonderful! One thing does not work in my case but I guess it’s my PCs fault. Nevertheless this mod should be sold as a GAME!

Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. Once again the standard by which an all inclusive campaign should be held to has increased. I've played the Third Wire games for something close to fifteen years on and off now, and the Operation Desert Storm campaigns have always been among my favorite. This edition, released in commemoration of the thirtieth anniversary of Operation Desert Storm is incredibly detailed and includes many new aircraft and details. The new campaign featuring the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait is a fun challenge, one I don't expect my pilot to survive! I had been toying with the idea of returning to playing SF2 for a few months now, and this mod has made me feel like I did in 2006 the first time I picked up Wings Over Europe. To the Operation Desert Storm mod team and CombatAce staff, I thank you. Be proud of your amazing work!
