The purpose of war.....

Recommended Posts

To quote a phrase I once heard stated by Rush Limbaugh many years ago: "The purpose of war is to kill people and break things."

Duh.

When a war is raged, lots of people are killed. It is the nature of war. It cannot be any other way. Since the beginning of man, wars have taken place, and as long as mankind exists.....there will be more wars.

There will always be differences of opinions as to the reasons why the US is dedicated to ousting Saddam Hussein, but all efforts to contain him have not worked. He needs to be snuffed out. Not sent to another country to live in luxury. No, I think a well-placed round in his cranium would be a much better solution.

The unfortunate consequences of a war will, of course, include innocent casualties. There has never been, nor will there ever be a time when this does not happen. The following excerpt is from the Online Plain Text Dicitionary:

War (v. i.) To make war; to invade or attack a state or nation with force of arms; to carry on hostilities; to be in a state by violence.

It is noble to hope for an end to all wars, and for everlasting peace. The problem is it will never happen. This world is made up of thousands of different cultures. There will always be differences between races that will end up in conflict. It is just the way things are. Accept it or not.

Military action is important to the nation - it is the ground of death and life, the path of survival and destruction, so it is imperative to examine it.

- Master Sun, first line from

The Art of War

Yes, I think war is incredibly stupid, and I wish it were not necessary, but it is.

Wars can only be waged for these reasons.

Money

Retribution

In the Defense or the Offense of a Principle(s)

Insanity of a leader (rarely occurs)

Look closely at any/every war in history and you will find that all of them fall in to atleast one of these catagories.

The problem I have with "American" wars is that they all seem to be in defense of money but we say its for freedom. WWI/II and Korea are the last ones that really meant anything.

Notice all three of those wars were ran by Liberal Administrations (SO SHUT THE F*CK UP WITH YOUR ANTI-LIBERAL BULLSH*T). Sorry Mates, but I'm getting tired of the slander.

I dont know what it is about those damn Republicans trying to run a war (it just seems like it takes them years to get to where they should already be). Christ, even Clinton bombed then told (he almost got Bin Laden), dumb ass Bush and his boys are up there giving away strategy, or has everybody forgotten Afghanistan (we told the Taliban for months... "Give us Usama or we are comin in") Where's Usama now? We dont know because we took so damn long to move in. Dont even get me started on Nixon, or Reagan for that matter.

One more thing, you cant expect an actor/actress to be able to wipe their own ass, let alone understand the geo-political atmosphere, actually, very few people do, including the people on this forum.

We all have opinions, and the only reason why we can express them is because we live in the "white" world (hate to sound like a racist, but its true), and I for one wont go to war until somebody has the ability to, and tries to, take that freedom away, and no the terrorists dont have that ability. They are at war with us because they want us out of their countries. We will be out someday(fuel cell coming soon), and then they will all be poor, and they can all sit in their own sh*t while they beg for the almighty dollar!

(SO SHUT THE F*CK UP WITH YOUR ANTI-LIBERAL BULLSH*T).

Sorry XO no can do. I can't resist this topic

While our political views differ greatly, the point you make is good.

I would agree that the wars of late have been for the $$$

But also look at our biggest steps in building a force to be reckoned with,

1: no liberal democrat POS administration ever EVER increased the defense budget, as a matter of fact Clinton screwed that up too, I mean what can you expect, the guy couldn.t even get a blowjob without a controversy. The liberal basrtards always want to cut the defense budget. Do you realize during the Clinton Administration he cut 15 active Tomcat squadrons? Cancelled 8 warships, and cut over 145 BILLION from the defense spending budget over his 8 year tenure, then has the balls to ask for 6 million dollar office after hes a civillian POS

2:Reagan, while sleeping most of the time, took a stand not taken by this country since WWII. At least he never got blamed or impeached for Iran-contra, and that was alot more contraversial than any f**king blowjob.

3:N.Korea has technology provided by china for it's nukes, Where did china get that info??? from Clinton!!! I have reams of files on this, as I sat in on some hearings, on the Hill.

4:While in office, Clinton refused to touch Saddam or Iraq. He tried to field a force of CIA agents to form an alliance with the Kurds, but turned tail and left over 100 dead, 400 wounded Kurds, while pulling out because he was a CHICKENs**t of the highest degree.

5:Bush Sr. while failing to eliminate Saddam when he had the chance, defended the Kuwaiti peoples freedom, gave them their country back and thoroughly destroyed much of Saddam's forces.

6: Jimmy Carter (FU**ING JOKE) eliminated all paramilitary abilities of the CIA. Cut the defense budget by 285 Billion dollars. Cancelled the B-1A project. Left our Navy unable to fight a 2 ocean war.

I mean come on, how many times did he fall on his face? (literally)

The last Democrat worth a s**t was FDR, and if you read his memoirs you will see that he detested the Liberal Left with a passion!!!

Although personal political views mean nothing in the large scheme of things, they do affect the country as a whole when you get a boneheaded Administration in the White House. And the WH has been occupied by boneheads from Dem, and Rep parties plenty times before, and probably plenty times to come.

I was refering to Wilson, FDR, and Truman, the last three Presidents to care about the American People (more than themselves) and actually do something meaningful for the world.

Unfortunatley Wilson is labeled a coward by the right, and a racist by the left.

FDR is americas greatest President not becuase he got us through World War II, but because he got us out of the depression, withouth having to build up a huge military like Germany or Russia, he did it through reforms, and thank god he was a socialist, otherwise who knows where we would be now. Imagine a Republican pulling us out of recession, instead of creating one... that would be something.

Truman is completely overshadowed by FDR, for the war effort, and nobody remembers that Truman kept FDR's social programs alive, when everybody else wanted to get rid of them.

But as for JFK, LBJ, Carter, and Clinton, a worthless lot they are.

But the last Republican Pres to be worth a F*CK was Lincoln (and remember the parties flipped views after the civil war) so he wouldnt be a republican if he were around today.

All I can really say about politics, is that it only exists to create laws, and a very wise man once said "That you can tell how free a country is by the number of laws it has" = more laws = less freedom.

And dont give me that "But the left is always wanting more laws, bullsh*t", they want laws of protection and equality, the right wants to constrict you with moral code.

My political views are this... Socialize Education, Healthcare, and Retirement. Have a moderate military (this cowboy sh*t is getting old), and pass a few laws to keep the Corporations from F*cking the worker/consumer in the ass everytime they get a chance.

I think that puts me in the Labor Party or something, but I am by no means one of those whinney little leftist pussy's that sits around debating, what should be done, but never does sh*t.

Oh well atleast there's always Trance.

It saddens me to know that you view lying and making a lowly Colonel take the blame for a violation of International Law as a good thing. I hope you dont put Nixon up there with the "GREAT" Reagan.

They both KILLED THE AMERICAN DREAM.

"But as for JFK, LBJ, Carter, and Clinton, a worthless lot they are. "

Rember JFK is the creator on the modern Special Forces,he even by exective order approved "the Green Beret" for wear avoiding years of approvel meetings and was a Sailor himself. but to the facts "Nam" was started by whom-----------IKE he first sent " SF". "advisors" into country.

might want to read up some more on LBJ I have acces to better info as I live 8 mi. away from the LBJ libeary.but there is alot of info on the web.

"But the last Republican Pres to be worth a F*CK was Lincoln " his fist case as a lawer was in defense of slavery, and stated if he could win the war without freeing the slaves he would do so but needed the anti-slave parties support.and money to win.

BUT ABOVE ALL THIS IS A GAMING FORUM LETS HAVE "FUN" treat it as a Dinner party refraine from "talking" politics, religen, and sex " and we can all get along.

I was going to say the same thing "leave it all to gaming", but I didnt really feel it necessary.

I'm suprised nobody's been critical of the internal squabling in VF-143, well between me and the skip anyway.

No more of this, it makes us look like we dont have any integrity.

A good XO should voice his own feelings from time to time though.

XO you are 1000% correct, we need to show integrity here, and I have not done that. For this I appologize.

I value your opinions and I like the fact that you take a stand, and brook no s**t.

And I stand behind you 100% Nixon was a POS, no love for him at all

I agree Nixon's "contributions" to the Office of the Presidency were not noteworthy, to say the least.

As for Ron Reagan? I feel strongly (as a retired career Navy) that Reagan did more to uplift the morale of our military than any other President had done in my lifetime. Jimmy Carter viewed the Navy as merely a way to transport the troops and supplies overseas; and not as our first line of defense.

Billy Bob Clinton was NOT respected by the military. His position was, but not the man (if I may use that term loosely). The fact that he was even Commander-In-Chief did not sit well with most. Speaking for myself, when I was given a certificate that was signed by Clinton, thanking me for my 20 years of active service upon my retirement, I did not frame it. Oh no. Instead, I placed it in my cat's litter box and let them "do their thing" on it for a few days; then I burned it.

Hmmmm....get the idea I wasn't fond of BC?

Nope
