Looks Great, I have seen such an aircraft in Jasta 4 colours and I believe it was flown by the Ernst Udet but never saw action!!

Can't wait!!

Looking very good. I've been hoping someone would model the Fokker D VIII. Now I can keep my fingers crossed for the Junkers D.1 (all metal covering and airframe).

Still have to work a few things, add wires etc. Try to reduce the poly-count a little.

Maybe the striking black & white of Jasta 6???

Keep up the good work

Work is still progressing, just a bit slower now I'm back at work

Working on the mapping right now. v. Deutschmark has kindly offered to work up a few skins. Hopefully I'll get the first maps off to him in the next few days.

Once that's done I'll work up the ini file and probably post an alpha version here for people to play with and help work up the FM

Tex can turn water to wine if you give him the right ini

Did D.VIII see much action or arrived too late to do anything?

(S!) ALL hi ;-)

The D8/ EV seen action at the front with Jasta 6 & Marine Jasta

I have done the 4 well know Jasta 6 & the 2 well know Marine Jasta skins,

And am all set to do them for FE as well so you will all end up with 6 skins

To pick from.

"Did D.VIII see much action or arrived too late to do anything?"

Sadly no it could not have had an impact on the course of the war.

The latter part of what you said was the actual case historically.

After some kinks were worked out with the single wing, it was

indeed supplied to the frontline Jagdstaffeln as fast as possible,

though valuable time had already been lost.

In the closing weeks of the Great War, the type flew along side the

Fokker D.VII in small numbers. It scarcely had a chance to really

prove itself in action. The British called her the "Flying Razor Blade"

and it's very likely that this fascinating combat plane might have

replaced the D.VII had the war lasted through the winter of 1918-1919.

It must be remembered that the English blockade took a heavy toll on Germany by the time of the Fokker E.V's arrival, and the ersatz oil they used for their rotaries was inadequate. This would only have gotten worse in 1919, had the war continued, because it was unlikely the Germans would have broken the blockade.

The ersatz oil caused numerous rotary engine failures; the Fokker D.VII water-cooled inline was much more reliable. The E.V's engine failures were constant--Jasta 6 alone had 30 emergency landings in ten days! The E.V was recalled from action so the wings could be strengthened and their interiors varnished, and were redesignated Fokker D.VIII. The type was accepted in October 1918 but never saw action--all those photos of "D.VIIIs" at the Jasta level are, in fact, EVs. (Source: Richthofen's Circus, Jagdgeschwader Nr. 1, by Greg VanWyngarden, 2004)

So, you can do whatever you like, of course, but if you are modelling the parasol airplane that fought with the Luftstreitkräfte in August 1918, that plane was designated the Fokker E.V.

Fascinating detail in that reply! I always forget that the type was in fact

a monoplane, hence Fokker E-V. Either way, I'm eager as heck to try

this aircraft out in First Eagles, as are many other players.

My scource was Fighter Aircraft Of The 1914-1918 War, Harborough

Publication, Compiled by W.M. Lamberton, Published 1960, page 128,

paragraphs 5-7 :)

What's the ISBN of that book you have? I'd like to get it one of these

days soon. Thank you in advance!
