The man led an amazing life.

 

He was a true gentleman in the best sense of the word. We kind of take for granted what he accomplished becuase something like 100-200 people summit Everest a year (the world's high garbage dump), but he did it before nylon, Gortex, composite boots/poles, spectra cord, satelite images and weather forecasts, and every other modern convenience that makes climbing so easy today. And he did it for the right reasons.

 

As a climber I have nothing but the greatest respect and admiration for the man; he will be missed.

Yeah he was cool, atleast he finally admitted after Tenzing Norga's death that Tenzing and NOT he was the first to set foot on the peak.
