Is this doable in strike fighters? It would be pretty cool to launch parasite escorts on a deep strike into Russia, or even just sit there for the ride until the enemies show up. What do you guys (and I think we have one girl) think?

I think FastCargo is/was experimenting with it.

Either that or he's really good at formation flying. :wink:

Check the Screenshot of the Day thread (you'll need to go a few pages back, though)

Oleg put Mistels into Il-2 and it's VERY hard to detach without colliding and exploding in that.

I would think in 3-wires stuff that would be preventable by adjusting the collision points

That would be cool!

Then we could get one of these to piddle about in.

The little guy in front, carried by the big guy in the back. :good:

Been enamored with `em since I saw one in a video at an air-show as a kid...

Wasn't someone working on this for FE a while back?

If these actually made it into service... I think that the aircraft carrier's status as the hardest thing to land on would get a run for its money. :tongue:

Would love to try out that Goblin.

How about a flat-topped zeppelin? :haha:

Try landing on that baby. I would do barrel rolls whenever my escort tries to land. :pilot: "No you don't!"

Was thinking along the same lines...something similar to the airships in Crimson Skies.

Hmm. Couldn't we add a platform as a weapon? But maybe the planes would go right through it...

Sky Captain and his long-range, multi-seat, underwater-capable P-40 would love to land on one of those!

ROFLMAO!

When I saw a thread entitled "Parasites"... I though for sure it would be a non-complimentary post referencing at least a dozen possible forum residence... (some who even responded... don't be coy... you know who you are!)

I saw the Goblin years ago at the USAF Museum in ohio, you would really be surprised how small that jet is. It was canceled because of how hard it was to dock with the mothership. Not sure if it was the one on display or not, but one was badly damaged, smashed the canopy and banged it up pretty good but the pilot managed to land it and survived.I Would love to fly that in WOE. :good:

these are the lines from the cvn75

[Deck]
SystemType=FLIGHT_DECK
FlightDeckHeight=16.8
FlightDeckLength=332.587
FlightDeckWidth=71.542
LandDeckAngle=-7.15
LandingAimPoint=-4.654,-87.234,16.8
CollisionMesh=CVN_Flight_Deck.lod

Code for catapults and arrestor wires omitted

so maybe we could add a deck model like the canards for the F-15 ACTIVE, or draw up a sky fortress 3D model and import it to the game, or even design the model so that there's a flight deck several hundred feet above the bottom of the model and import it as a carrier

Close.

When I was experimenting with trying to make a satellite target (for a ASAT missile) I did exactly what you described.

Ground objects are built with the 0,0,0 coordinate at ground level. So you could make a model that was lots of meters above that...which would make it appear to 'float' or 'fly'. Therefore, making a airborne carrier type model would be easy with the proper model and ini values. It would just only 'fly' at the same altitude.

Problems with this approach include you could only land 'on top' of the deck. Maybe rig something like a BSG setup, where you fly into a tunnel.

The other problem is that attempting to destroy such a model with weapons would only work with unguided weapons. Guided weapons will attempt to target the 'base' of such a structure....where there is no visual model. Which is why I gave up on the 'Satellite'.

Speaking of satellite targets, the ASAT is back on track with the release of WoI. New code has shown up which gives me another way of making a 'satellite'...already done tests. Just gotta figure out why the guided missile is so inaccurate...
