Holy flappin' snappers!

I just found my favorite fighter-bomber.

I usually take my 1st runs on the range, but muggered that all up trying to upgrade it, so I hit WoI.

8 shipper, 4 as escort in sandy Baz's versus Egyptian airfield. 3 & 4 neutralized the AAA, 2 took out the runway. No trade for the Baz's, so sent `em home and

went solo on a `strip I saw close to the coast with MiG's parked under nets, 1st time for that.

Used Mavericks to toast the ZSU's, and made a run;

4 of the 6 snake-eyes found their mark and popped the Egyptian MiG-21's in their bermed pens.

Another pair of runs with 3 each only yielded one more, but that 1st one was one of the coolest I've experienced in the many flight hours of this series.

Many thanks to USAFMTL, and all the contributors to this beautiful beast!

Solo runs in WOI in an F-15E. Who do you think you are, Matt Pontowski?

Who?

Its from a book, he was one of the main characters who flew the Mudhen. I think it was Force of Eagles. Also read Warbirds and Firebreak. All by Richard Herman. Good damn books.

Will have to re-read all 3. Met the man and got a signed copy of Warbirds.

A quick Google reveals that he actually published 11 books! Time to hit Amazon...

DUDE!!! You got a signed copy of 'Warbirds'!!!! You lucky dog!!!

Suggested order of reading:

Warbirds

Force of Eagles

Firebreak

Dark Wing

Irongate (these last 2 are for you Hog drivers...)

(Call to Duty could be skipped, as it's more a spec-ops type, even though it flashes back to Pres Powtownski's service in the WW2 RAF, and the Amiens Raid. Chronologically, fits betweeen FoE and Firebreak).

Re-read them all last year (Kevin, you missed about half the series). It's suprising how good the continuity actually is.

Try looking for them on ebay - you should pick up a few bargains.

Here's the full list of his books

Not heard of anything from him for a while. Hope he's still with us.

Firebreak would be a good modern campaign for WOI, and The Warbirds/Force of Eagles would be good for the Iran/Iraq terrain as a campaign and mission set respectively. Heck, you could probably do the first mission for The Warbirds in WOI right now - USAF F-4E's based in Egypt intercepting Libyan MiG-23s that in turn are intercepting a USAF C-130 flying a relief mission. Oh, and the Phantoms are guns only....

It's fun to fly no doubt, but it's definitey a beast. Last night I did an anti-shipping run near Beirut, and on the way back took a hit from either a SAM, or an AA-2 Atoll, and managed to neutralize the MIG-21 that was chasing me anyways. So I'm making my approach, and go to extend the airbrake..... not slowing down... extend go outside view and hit it in annoyance but landed safely. Bird's so good that I sent a message to USAFMTL "Hey man I don't think the brake works" Run a CAS mission earlier today and everything works... yeah..

The first 4 books were converted to playable missions by me for FightersAnthology. I got half way through IronGate, and gave up (this is like 6-7 years ago)

I've 9 of them, some I passed on due to being full of politicial BS; I want to see the AF in action -- phhhfft on political hacks

btw, if anyone still has FA, and want the misssion sets, i'll be glad to send them out.

note to self: double check for Janes IAF missions rebuild for FA -- should be archived somewhere....

Then he forgot he got hit by a SAM and figured out that is why his speed brakes didnt work.

Nice update, especially since the Sep patch is out, but why were the skins resized? I would like to have 2048x2048 skins for the Mudhen. Any chance I could get those?
