X-29, the stuff of many, many teen fantasies.

Good work so far on the model.

I think I had that sim/game way back on my 386. I don't know about your teen fantasies but, I don't think the x-29 is a usual one. :dntknw:

Nice! Brings back memories from the other flight simulator I played before WoE: Jane's Fighters Anthology! :clapping:

Jeez you're fast! I'm not even done putting things up on those forums, looking for more help and you've already got the body of the plane built.

Good.

I was hoping I was not the only one that felt a little, well, odd, seeing that remark...

While we're on the topic. AFAIK the X-29 was never given an official name other than FSW (Forward Swept Wing). This is pretty lame.

So, could everyone come up with some suggestions for names and we'll do a poll to see which one wins.

Grumman F-29A "????????"

Sound like a good idea?

I always thought of the wings like a knife:

Ka-Bar doesn't work  neither does Pig Sticker... How about

Razor

Switchblade (is there a switchblade already?)

Edge

It depends on what service accepted it.

Being a Grumman, had it become a USN fighter, it would undoubtedly had (in keeping with Grumman tradition), been named after a cat. In USAF service, it would have been named after a raptor of some sort ( for example, Eagle, Falcon, Night Hawk, etc.). How about "Peregrine". That could possibly have been the X-29 design team's joke on General Dynamics and their "Falcon"

Hmmm....

Maybe F-29A Cheetah? It would really fit, as the plane looks fast and was very agile, but afaik it did not have extensive range.

the Boomerang... the shape of the wings fits.. and... would give credit to its builder, Dels :D

I ended up going with "F-29A Lynx" for my drawings. I'm saving Peregrine for the F-31.

A feline name keeps it close with the F-5E Tiger's name too.

F4F Wildcat

F6F Hellcat

F7F Tigercat

F8F bearcat

F9F panther

F9J Cougar

F10F jaguar

F11F Tiger

F-14 tomcat

When you toss in Northrop there's also F-5 tiger and F-20 tigershark

All navy fighters. The X-29 may have made a nice naval aircraft, the forward swept wings gave it a very low stall speed which is ideal for carrier landings.

bobcat maybe? The Kfir aggressor (F-21) I believe was called Lion. Any of the above II? alley cat? Puma? leopard?

If it is something agile, might as well name it after an agile cat. Panther or something, someone else would do a better job than me in naming.
