Is the AI of Wings over Israel better than SFP1/WoV and WoE? I think wingman won't enegage in the other 3 games is due to less capable AI. If I buy WoI will that sove the problem?

You don't need to buy WOI just because of the code changes, since TK will implement those into the earlier games once WOI is stable and bugfree. Then again, buying WOI means more money for TK and that might make him work faster. :wink:

 

Also, your wingmen do engage the enemy...all of them:

Go into one of the previous posts by Christian59,; he put up the advanced AI.

It will change your game experience.

I'm sorry, it might be a meaningless question. But I want to know what are the range of values apart from SINGLE_EVENT for the TYPE variable in

I always think this has something to do with AI lead aircraft communicating with its flight group.

 

The reason I want to buy WoI is because I would tend to expect that an AI lead aircraft would command its wingman to fight at the same time with it. Right now, out of SFP1, WoV and WoE, the lead AI aircraft engages while its wingmen just having "tea" now that is unacceptable!

Alright guys, I have sent out Mayday mesaages more than 5 times already and this is getting me mad now, I am frustrated. I thought this forum is very friendly and poeple are willing to help out the hopeless (me int his case). And I have posted in more than 2 diffrent topics but people seem not understanding what I am saying.

 

Now I think I will do this/ if this doesn't help I will go get WoI to see if it does any better.

 

Attached please find a zip which contains F4M_DATA.INI F4M_LOADOUT.INI VIEWLIST.INI WEAPON.INI MIG-21

PFV.INI and the mission Nouvelle Mission.msn which is testing the BVR combat.

 

Put them into your folder and you will be riding ina F-105D which does not belong to the F-4M flight package. So both the F-4M and MiG-21 are 2 diffrent packages and they are both AI aircrafts. The tweaking done to the F-4M will enable it to fire AIM-120C the moment the game starts. The problem you will observe is that Cobra11, the F-4M lead aircraft will engage while changing its course towards the MiGs but its wingman Cobra12 continues to its designated course 090 indicating no wish to engage at all! That's the problem I am talking about all the time. Supposingly wingies even not engaging together with the lead should not detach from the formation.

i hate the fact that there is one command to Red Crown that is completely useless. "request help" they never say anything but No. just once in a while it would be nice if they said Yeah, sure well send some guys over to help out.

You need to look at the some of the stock air-to-air missions that came with the game. You will never get any AI to engage with the .msn file you posted. You're missing the "ObjectiveID" line from every air group.

 

Add "ObjectiveID=2" to the F-4 group, and "ObjectiveID=1" to the MiG-21 group and see what happens.

 

Slow down a little before you make a blanket statement such as, "the wingman won't engage". The AI will engage enemy airtargets in Single Missions, campaigns, and even user-written missions, provided you have everything required in the .msn file.

I havent't explored this yet, but I think from what JSF poasted, ObjectiveID is the mission file flight number of the aircraft flights in question. I assume this means the AI will agressively engage the specified enemy flight. If this is the case, it will be very useful. For example, I would want Su-11s to target a B-58, leaving MiG-21Fs or Su-7s (pre-B, non-suffix) to target escorting flights of F-105s or F-101s.

"ObjectiveID" means different things, depending on what the Flight's "MissionType" is set to.

I hear this a lot, and about once or twice a year I join a thread like this. I am not saying your theory is incorrect, but for some reason I see wingmen engage and get kills all the time. My game is WOE based. I don't really save a lot of the screenies, but here is a recent example, that at least illustrates that the wingmen in a flight did engage something, or they are just firing missles for the fun of it.

I think many readers on this forum have misunderstood what the problem I am getting at. The wingman or more precisely #2 aircraft does engage but only at close range of its AIM-9 IRM or its gun. What they fail to comply is firing medium range missiles like the AIM-120C or teh AIM-7E. Do you understand? And all I am talking about is an AI flight group that means all the aircrafts in the flight including the lead aircraft are AI aircrafts not the player lead flight group.

 

I hope I dont need to repeat all these pre-conditions again.

 

Look, don't get me wrongly. The patch is perfectly okay as far as a flight is lead by a human player. He can command the wingman to engage "my target" and thus giving it a air attack command. What the game lacks may be is a command "Engage Air" instead of "Engage my Target" issued by the human player to his wingman.

 

But when it comes down to AI flight groups vs AI flight groups, all these BVR stuffs dont fit together at all! IT BECOMES A WITHDRAWING FACTOR FOR US TO DESIGN CAMPAIGN WITH GOOD IMMERSION.

Hi dood,

 

1. I don't know about the AIM-120C. I looked all over WOE but couldn't find it.

 

2. I did find the AIM-7E Sparrow. Looks like you get them with the F4's.

 

3. I flew a quick mission. See debrief screen. NOTE the WINGMAN #2 attacks with his Sparrows.

 

4. To do this get a visual target at about 5 miles or so and order your wingman to attack it. Its a no-brainer.

 

5. Or get a radar target. Hit <Ctrl R> to verify its an enemy. Then order your wingman to attack it. Its a no-brainer.

 

6. NOTE the wingie got the "keel" as well.

 

7. Now, I can go on and try some of the pure AI groups and see if they will do it do... :yes:

You see, that's the trouble, what Basher wants is BVR, with NO visual identification, in birds with primitive or no IFF.

 

What he wants is lobbing missiles blindly over the horizon at maximum range of the missiles.

What he wants is cleaning the skies of pesky korean airliners with his mighty Su-15...

1. Well, OK, I decided to take the entire squad up for a fighter sweep. (see screenie)

 

2. Looks like plenty of the #2 doods engaged with their AIM-7E Sparrows.

 

3. Actually, we really gang banged the enemas. We hit em with a little bit of everything.

 

4. Now there is no way for me to conclusively prove that these keels were BVR (beyond visual range?).

 

5. But I am fairly certain that most of the keels were BNR (beyond NOOB range!).

 

6. I never saw anyone use the AIM-120C, so I will keep trying to find it.

......and all this despite the fact that there's ten friendly fighters per square inch in the locality. Take note, design modders and senior members; any suggestions?? This is all very frustrating.........

2. I am the #2 (or 12) pilot - Capt Wicker. I am NOT Leading ANYTHING!!! and I DO NOT ISSUE any orders.

 

3. Cdr Albirght, some AI dood, is in charge of the mission.

 

4. NOTE how all the AI doods, ENGAGE with their AIM-7E Sparrows.

 

5. I NEVER used my Sparrows, because I kept "clearing" Cdr Albirght's tail. NOTE my poor gunnery, and NO keels.

This BVR thing according to me is a non issue. It happens even at extreme range in my game, seldom but it does happen.
