Simple .ini edit using WoE stock 1 Sqdn GR3 decals. Here's how:-

 

1. Open your AV-8Bplus folder, and copy one of the skin folders (eg "VMA231") to your desktop.

 

2. Rename the copied folder "1RAF" (without the quotes).

 

3. Open your new 1RAF folder. Delete the "d" subfolder - you won't need it, and every little bit of space helps :wink:

 

4. Open the Textureset.ini with wordpad or some such, and replace all the text with the following:-

6. Save the changes to your edited .ini files.

 

7. Cut and paste your whole edited 1RAF folder back from your desktop to your AV-8Bplus folder.

 

8. Fire up WoE, select single mission for AV-8Bplus, go into the loadout screen and change the squadron for each plane to 1RAF, which will now show up in the list.

 

9. Voila! You are now flying a "fake" RAF GR7. Blow stuff up :biggrin: Have fun :biggrin:

Why not finish the job, and do the rest of the edits to the data and loadout ini, creating a fully RAF bird???

 

Mabye about 30 mins more work!!

 

Good job, and when I get NFG her decals, we'll have matching serials for the fuselage, too. Unless, of course, somebody ponies up the production list.....

Is there a way to add the extra pylons that carry sidewinders from the wing landing gear extensions? perhaps could be used a tecnique similar to Fast Cargo's canards, or Mig-19 AAM pylons.

There is still the long nose problem, but I like the idea of a fictional harrier with radar, after the GR7 and GR9; maybe a fictional GR10, a night attack harrier above the AV8B plus standards.

Nice work Baltika, I guess I have to hurry the GRs!

A question to the RAF experten: I understand the serials are in a two letters + 3 digits format, but sometimes the planes carry another code (usually on the fin) which I can't get. I suppose it's the squadron numbering, but the format is not consistent, sometimes it's a letter, sometimes two letters, sometimes two digits. How is it supposed to work? The numbers seem quite self explanatory, but the letters leave me puzzled :blink:

The tail codes are a squadron ident, like the numbers on US Navy aircraft. It generally isn't consistent between squadrons as it's just a way of identifying individual airframes, some squadrons arrange it so that lined up correctly they'll spell something e.g. 74 Sqn used to have T I G E R and S as tail codes. I think the GR 7/9 have some arrangement where the A variants with the upgraded engine have an A as the final digit on their tailcode. Somewhere like the Key publishing forums may have more detail on what's currently being used.

I'm not sure about the RN part of the Harrier force, but traditionally we've used a letter on the tail to denote which ship/airbase an aircraft belongs to and a two or three digit number to denote which squadron it belongs to, squadrons being assigned a group of numbers

That's why I like Royal Navy skins...they're simple (well, at least when it comes to making the decals)
