Is anybody working on new Korean campaign update?

Recommended Posts

Hallo pilots :yes:

I am M*A*S*H fan. In SFP1 language it means that I like fly Korean campaign :biggrin: Does not matter for which side I fly... OK... For Migs side I like fly bit more :haha:

So I am really veeeeeryyyyyy looky forward to new Korean terrain repaint. We have in download section many planes for Korean campaign. There are maaanyyyy F-86 versions for example. I am not specialist in F-86 versions, so I do not know when which version comes to which squadron.

So I want to ask if somebody (normal man or campaign guru :crazy: ) is working on Korean campaign update. If it is not secret :cool:

Thanks

Well I'm not sure that's a good idea...the new Korea is not just a re-paint...it's a whole new terrain. Now if I correctly understand how things are done in SF campaign world, you pretty much need to know what is where before oyu start making the campaign right?

Ouha, souds damn good :shok: I thought that it is "only" repaint with trees and some new targets.

I am looky muuuuuuch more now :yahoo:

I am not campaign guru, but as far as I know, you are right :biggrin:

Than x for reply and clarifing :hi:

Trust me, there are more targets in there than you can shake a stick at....and I'm still not even CLOSE to getting them all in!!!. I'm shooting for coverager from 1950 to date. Even thinking on adding the Harbin aircraft factory at Shenyang, just for giggles (have a nice parked Fishbed to but there...)

I'm thinking that, when I finally get it where I want it, there'll be more target areas than on the DS map, which has 200 and something....i'm only up to 130 now.

Kuk, you DID see the screenies of the 4077th, right???

Well, I am working on a Korean war campaign. I downloaded the Korean war mod (from CA). Found that it has some issues. And tried to improve it. Currenty the entire UN side is rebuild, ground combat and frontline shift happens. NK ofensive, Inchon, (Suwon) and Chosin sholud happen. You can fly for USAF, USN, USMC, RN, RAN and SAAF. Historicaly accurate units.

Flyable aircraft are:

F-51

F-80

F-82

F-84

F-86 (I use the new Sabre pack, but it imbalances the game a bit as mig 15 ufo flight model si preserved {is there a mig 15 FM comparable to Sabre packmodel})

F-94

A-26B,C

AD

F4U-4, 4B

F9F

F2H

Sea Fury

Seafire

Firefly

meteor F.8

Needs to be done:

Include NK airforce (with yaks, lavockins, sturmoviks, peshkas and polikarpovs)

Add VC-3 dets. (F4U and F6F nightfighters)

ground combat balancing (use infantry or vehicles only?)

maybe expand USN a bit (imclude correct carrier rotation, but during the war 17 US carriers operated there. Lot of work.)

Not tested with new patch (I've patched today)

uses the old terrain

I can post this unfinished version here for testing if you are interested.

-Vigilant, please check the downloads section: There are the MiG-15bis User Mod (from the same people that made the new Sabers) and the MiG-15 Fagot A mod. Both are much more difficult to fly than the Sabers. Ah, these planes (and the new Sabers) are well armoured. I suggest to add armor to all korean campaign planes to balance an add more realistic feel.

-Wrench have a nice substitute to the Po-2 (a Boeing Stearman with a North Korean skin).

-Some planes need an update in FM (the La-11 and uses the same FM than the P-51, the La-9 has errors too) I have tweaked some of them (for my private use)

-There is no Il-10. I use a modded Il-2 instead (no North Korean skin, sadly), but the modded FM and loadout works well (I have retired some armour too, it was invincible!).

-Bombers need a little tweek. I think B-29s are a little über (climbing as rocket, armour plated as a Tiger tank and firing as Lee Harvey Oswald).

-Other suitable planes: AT-6D (modded, it's too fast), F3D, F7F-3n, Avenger.

-Some "what ifs": Yak-15 (there is a Yak-15 confirmed victory, possibly an error), La-15 (close in appareance to MiG-15, maybe some La-15 reported as MiG-15s by USAF pilots), MiG-9 and Il-28 (the Chinese had both of them, but not used in Korea)

Well, these are only my opinions. I think a little criticism can be positive feedback for the modders, but I'm very grateful to all of them for their awesome work. They make this series legendary!

Excelent that there is the new mig 15 FM. I'll try it.

I can do/understand only basic aircraft data.ini editing. I don't have even the slightest idea about FM changes. (But yes, B-29 si overpowered, overarmored, overgunned...)

Po-2 and Il-10 will be "played" by similar AC like you mentioned. As for the other soviet "what-ifs", it is almost impossible to say what was really there. Soviet and chinese records are incomlete (and were routinely falsified at the time) and NK are unavailable (and even less reliable). Also many soviet aircraft look very similar: any yaks, lavockins 7,9,11 and yak 11, mig-15/la-15, pe-2 and tu-2. Many books i've read describe same events and involve different aircraft. For example Lt. Bordelons kills were described as la-9 or yak-11 and pe-2 or tu-2.

As for the other UN aircraft - I know that USAF used AT-6 in Korea as FAC. I dont know in what units, so if someone can enlighten me, they will be there :-)

F3D is included, i forgot to mention it. If there is a tigercat, there is a place for it reserved with VMF(N)-513 :-)

What role should ASW Avengers play?

If someone has any info about ROKAF it will be most welcome.

I've decided to split the campaing to several pieces (covering historical events) and the first part about the North korean Invasion is almost complete.

You'll need the Korea terrain (from Korean Air War mod by Edward).

Required ground objects are:

T-34

ShermanE8

VC_Squad

US_Squad_early

recommended are era specific AAA guns.

required Carriers:

CVA-34

Bulwark

CVE-118

required aircraft:

F-51D

F-80 Shooting Star

F-82

A-26b

B-29

F9F-5 (as there is no F9F-2, 2B)

F4U-2 (as there is no F4U-5N)

F4U-4

F4U-4B

AD-4

AD-4N

seafire47

Firefly

CA-15B (CAC Kangaroo Mk.2 from A-Team, non historic, but i like it. Entries for correct F-51 aircraft are in the no. 77 squadrons entry, simply switch the ";")

La-7

Yak-9U

Yak-3

Il-2m3 (as there is no Il-10)

here is the file KW1.zip

Major problem are squadron start dates as they usualy don't appear at all. So all units start at 6/25/50.

I'll preciate any information about ROKAF involvement in the war as all books I have ignore the issue.

Comments and constructive criticism are welcome.

I´m playing the old Korean wa mod right now, but I´m having a problem:carrier based aircraft are spawning in the sea and exploding.

Is this mod not compatible with WOV?

Check this thread:

...never mind. SimHQ is down right now. But anyway, there is a thread discussing what is required to get it running properly. I have some stuff I can post later that fixes most of the issues. I won't have time for a while, though.

Yeah... I'll post the .rar file in the next couple of days.

Wrench - I don't know what the ETA is for the updated Korea Mod. Will it be worth while for me to post the corrected ground objects, campaign_data, etc... in the downloads section, or should I continue to shell it out on an as needed basis?

Malibu43:

Thanks, these made converting the Korean Air War mod very easy from my SP3.2 version to the SP4 (Aug 06) version.

I have run into only two problems so far:

1. Exploding planes when taking off from carriers (I have the fix, just have to change the appropriate numbers in the carriers .ini's)

2. The F2H-2 Banshee take-off problem. When I take off with the Banshee, you start about 2 feet above the canopy and as the plane raises from the ground, you slowly sink into the seat at the correct height.

I have tried different cockpits with no change and I have put this plane into different SFP-1/WoV mods (SP4 and SP5) and it still does the same thing. As a result, I can only assume that it is either in the Banshee ".lod" or in the Banshee "Data.ini" settings.

Does anybody have any idea what needs to be changed in the F2h-2 Banshee to fix this problem since the Banshee works perfect in the SP3.2 version of SFP-1 ???

Thanks;

Panama Red

Was something not fixed in the carriers I posted?

When I tried the Albion last night, the plane blew up the moment it tried to launch from the end of the carrier, I just have to check the rest of them tonight and see if they need this fix too.

I did a search and someone suggested that setting the collisions to easy would cure it, but it didn't for me.

So I did some digging in the files and noticed some differences between the positions.ini and the Carrier_DATA.INI files. Through a process of trial and error I got things to work even on Hard collisions. The changes I made were:

Edit the Carrier_DATA.INI in the Carriers folder.

Change in the DATA.INI:

All 15.3340 to 15.5340

[Hull]

ModelNodeName=Hull

EffectSize=1.0

//MaxExtentPosition= 28.98, 152.25, 19.58

MaxExtentPosition= 28.98, 152.25, 15.5340

[Deck]

SystemType=FLIGHT_DECK

FlightDeckHeight=15.5340

Basically the plane was being positioned inside the carrier at the start of the mission and hence exploding. Now I can actually take-off!!

Now I just have to figure out how to fix the F2H-2 Banshee problem !!!

I'm assuming it's the Dev A-Team Banshee???

I just fixed the Skyknight's "pulls hard to the left & exploding on the runway" issue. Got a nice new VMFN-513 skin nearly done; just needs some more decals (and a new aircraft lod to fix the oh-so-many visual anomalies....) And a modified Intruder cockpit.

Maybe I'll find some time this week to look at the Banshees. Remember, too, all the DAT Bangeo's are VERY early efforts, and NEED much going over. There shouldn't be any problem with the cockpit's; at least not that I've ever encountered. Are you using the A-4Bs or another one?? (a quick looke at mine tells me it's using the A-4E -- which is wrong. B would be better, or perhaps a modificated F-80??) The F2H-4 should be the only one equppied with a radar scope (iirc), as it could be used as a 'nightfiger'. All the other radars should be 'range-only' for the gunsight ala Sabres

BTW, if you can afford the $15 buck, RazBam's are well worth it ... although, they too may need some upgrading post patch. IF you've patched (albeit not reccomended due to the patch fouling up totally WW2 style flight models :biggrin:

Wrench:

I took your advise and purchased the Razbam F2H-2/3/4 Banshee model since I could not get the old F2H-2 cockpit to wotk correctly. The funny thing is when I tested the new Razbam F2H-2 cockpit in the old F2H-2 plane, everything works fine now, but the new F2H-2 model so much more detailed than the old F2H-2 that it was a nice investment.

As I continued testing all the planes from the old SFP1 sp3.2 to SFP1 sp4 port, I discovered that the F9F-5 Panther's skin across the top of the fuselage is a little messed up (strange stipes). It did not have this problem in the old Sp3.2 patch and does not have this problem in the WoV Sep 08 patch, so I can only surmise that it is the particular way the the SFP1 Sp4 (Aug 06) patch renders the ".bmp's". At least your tweaked F9F-5 skins do not show the strange lines as much, so I just have to figure out where the lines come from on which ".bmp".

There's a "hole" in the Panther's lod. The technical name is 'an open mesh', this causes what's called 'decal bleed''; think of it kinda like paint running down, and into, a crack in the wall.

Unfortunatley, nothing can be done about that, except rebuilding the lod in 3dMax. And with out the actual Max file....impossible (well, there IS a totally illeagel way to do it, but we won't discuss that)

As the to DAT Bango's, I was testing them/it yesturday, using the stock A-4B non radar pit, in an unpatched WoE (my Korea Era install), and had no problems with the cockpit. And to finagle the positons a bit (pilot position is way off using the stock cockpit ini ... easy to adjust), don't forget the comment out the 'prop engines' -- the little turbine blade spinners. Do this on unpatched as well as patched versions.

Wrench:

Thanks for the tip on the Panther. With the info you provided me, I reduced the scale on the nose number decal and rear Navy decal on the F9F-5. As a result, I just have one single small white line on the nose and down the back of the plane, so it is much less noticeable than before (i.e. livable since this ".lod" will not be rebuilt any time soon).

Thanks;

Here are the updated campaign files and ground objects. I think you need wrench's F4U for this as well. Check his website for the download.

KoreaCampaignAndGroundobject.rar

I recently installed Edward's original Korea mod--and his update--to my SFP1, and my biggest frustration was the missing carriers, not to mention the exploding planes on anything other than the "easy" setting for collisions. Your file fixed ALL of this...thanks!!! :clapping:

One question...can I use your update to Edward's mod with the 8/30/06 patch, or will using that patch cause the mod not to work? (The October 08 update seems to keep the mod from working...)

Thanks again!

Cupcake:

All these fixes ARE for the 08/30/06 SP4 patch. Nothing has been made yet to bring the Korean Air War mod up to the Oct08 SP5 patch yet.
