One of the F-4E Phantom IIs belonging to The Chiefs, some time before they start their transition to the F-15E Strike Eagle.

 

(I know it wasn't exactly correct, since there are pictures of the F-4Es from one of the SJ guys showing the entire nose is painted grey. Not sure about the fintip band too, since the pic I have showed that there was some writing on it.)

alright, check this out. I was flying an anti-ship run in a Tornado IDS when two Lim-6M (polish Mig-17's) attacked my flight. I was using the tactic of an immelman turn at the merge, either followed by another and extending full burn to turn back into him or turning after the first immelman if energy allowed. Well, after doing this I got a 2 - 3 second window to pop off a lima model AIM-9. Well, at the exact time I fired he fires his 23mm cannons. It the precise moment of his bullets striking my plane my missile hit his, destroying it in a brilliant fire-ball. At that moment, girfriend comes in and tells me the stove is on fire and I paused the game. That is how I captured this pic of his fireball and me streaking through it on fire, lol, got to love the g/f's!

From my experiance KCT, the grey F-4Es had a black rain erosion boot bonded to the forward portion of the radome. Likewise the Euro1 and Asia1 colored birds had the rain erosion coating painted onto the entire radome. I've painted them myself a few times. Perhaps the photos were just a phantom that didn't have a boot bonded on yet. But I'm not saying they all had protective coatings either.

Oh god Iron eagle! The nerves of them trying to confuse us by saying an F-4 is an Mig-29 and a modified m113 APC is an BMP3

Yeah thats true but I found it sad cause I knew the difference between a Fulcrum and a Phantom at age 9! I was an aircraft geek at an early age and still am, but I do have friends who cant tell the difference between a cessna and an P-51 Mustang. BTW wasnt the "Fulcrum" Paintcheme in Iron Eagle 2 just the regular SEA camoflauge
