Best tip for fighting rotary-fighters: never turn right turns with them - force them into turning left.

And make early use of your twin Spandaus. A half damaged kite is even useless in the hands

of an ace. If you can't turn tight enough with them, fly  no circles but ovals or eights, with dives

for gaining speed, and tight turns in the high curves.

In left turn rounds you CAN get behind them - I did it many times. Good luck!

Well now - it's been a while since we had a new post here so I thought I'd share some OFF screenshots from the last few days.

I recently discovered the amazing AnKor mod for WOFF and found, thanks to Widowmaker, that it works in OFF as well! (Albeit with a LOT of tweaking on my part to get rid of some dreaded micro-stutters that users were seeing in WOFF). If you you're interested in how I adjusted my settings, see our discussion here: http://combatace.com/topic/82497-does-ankors-mod-work-on-off/page-2?do=findComment&comment=663286

While it took some work, the added immersion to the sim was more than worth the effort. Even OFF, which isn't nearly as graphically optimized as WOFF, looks like a class-leading flight sim! That added depth of shadows filtering across your cockpit is absolutely astounding. And the shadows have an amazing amount of depth to them - you can see shadows cast from the air cooled jackets of your twin Spandaus against the cockpit, or the shadow cast by a guage mounted on the cockpit's dash. The shadows also add depth and immersion to dogfights: wing struts pop as the sun glints off of the canvas that's tightly bound to the struts underneath, shadows cast across enemy pilot's faces as they whip their planes around to attack. The effect, whlie subtle at first, makes a tremendous difference in the look and feel of the sim.

So, to celebrate this little breakthrough, I've posted some before and after photos. The first is from a dogfight I found myself in last week - before installing the mod. While it's certainly beautiful, it's nothing comapred to the screenshots that follow. Hope you enjoy them!

We had an escort do do, and this Strutter team was just crazy to attack our flights all alone!

The weather and my mood were fine and not at all aggressive - but that asked for a thrashing!

In the end he wasn't credited to me though - my wingman shot him down.

It was a nice moment, when we three found the others from MFJ 1, and the recon flight, again.

Brilliant Pics Olham, I wish I could just enjoy WOFF as much as you do. I'm still having Stutters all the time, no matter what I do. I've tried dozens of different Combinations between WOFF and the GPU-Driver, but nothing helps. Always fighting with my GPU and WOFF to get it run smooth and liquid. After all these Months I still haven't found a way to play it without Problems... But I won't give up... :beee:

What CPU and GPU do you run, Andy?

(I think I used the wrong thread - it's OFF here, right?)

Intel i5-2500k  (3,4 Ghz) and a Geforce GTX 660 with 2 GB Memory, and 8 GB RAM. I'm so confused WOFF is still stuttering.

Yes, it's OFF here......

Okay, Andy, here are my "Workshop" settings - try them the same.

Let your graphic card do the Anti-Aliasing (8x) and Anisotropic Filtering (4x) - make sure it is set to "Override application settings for both.

Set  "VSync" to "Always On".

Set "Anti-Aliasing Mode" to "Adaptive Multisampling" or try "Supersampling".

Set your TrackIR "Speed" on 1 or less, and "Smooth" on 30 or less.

Set your Anti-Virus-Program up for "Gaming Mode: On" (this is no safety risk; while gaming/being in "Full screen mode", it will not do unnecessary tasks, but take them up later)

(You could even unplug your internet router for the flying time)

I don't know NVidia graphic cards, but they hopefully have similar settings?

Just try all this and report, okay?

Olham, I'm surprised your engine sound level is set at 20 ! You're missing the wonderful sound of the Mercedes on the Albatros.  (my settings are 70/90/100/100)

Capt, that shot of the DFW is an especially great view!

Corsaire, I think I have chosen "Ambient" instead of "Realistic" sounds - I am still experimenting with some

of the many WOFF settings. WOFF is so complex, that it may take me a year to come to a final setup

that I like best. Oh, the affluence...!

Thanks for your Answers, Olham!

I think I have found one great step to my personal final Solution. I've tweaked the ConfigOverrides.XML. I didn't just know what else to do...Sure it is a difficult way and it needs time and patience, but the Results are much more better now. WOFF now runs nearly as smooth and liquid as it was in OFF Phase 3.

I've changed the D3DSWAPEFFECT to Copy_Vsync, and the Index and Vertex Buffer Pools to D3DPOOL_MANAGED. These are nearly my same Settings as they were in OFF HitR. Now I have solid 50-60 FPS with my Sliders on 5,4,4,5,5, and even with 16x Time Acceleration my FPS are at 20, and it runs smooth as silk. Microstutters are eliminated at 95%.

My NVIDIA-GPU Driver has 32x CSAA and 4x Supersampling. Triple-Buffer ON, VSYNC is ON. Pre-rendered Frames are at 5. Anisotropic Filter at 8x.

But still some small (really small) Stutters when I fly over the Frontlines. Will go on and see, how I can reduce this... :beee:

I know this was the wrong thread for this...Sorry...

Thanks for that; I'll see if I can do that too, as I still have microstutters near ground.

But 32x AntiAliasing is overkill IMHO - 8x or 16x should do, and take less resources.

Abnisotropic Filtering sharpens more distant objects - perhaps 4x is good enough?

Hmmmm....

with my Settings the Game was running very good, but.....

I couldn't use Ankor's fantastic Shadow-Mod anymore. When I enabled this Mod, the Game crashed when loading a Mission.

So I changed the D3DSWAPEFFECT back to DISCARD. And guess what, the Mod is running again fine, liquid and smooth as never before...No Stutters!

So everything that must be changed are the Index and Vertex Pools to D3D_MANAGED. That's all. Leave the Rest as it is! Otherwise the Shadow-Mod will not work. You'll see, it gives a great punch in Performance...

See in this Picture what must be changed... Please do this in BOTH the DefaultOverrides and ConfigOverrides!!!! Both are in C:/YourName/User/AppData/Roaming/OBD_Games

Just tried it and I get a boost in FPS too. I stay at 60 even at X8 time acceleration, when it was falling around 30 FPS before !

Nice find Andy, thks for the tip !clapping.gif.pagespeed.ce.letqCZTOMd.gif

I will try this when I get home Andy.   Always looking for something to make the sim fly smoother than ever.  :)   Thanks for your non-stop diligence on this!

Andy, I'm using AnKor's mod, and my sim also crashes the first time I click "Go to field".

If I start WOFF again after that, it works fine. Try it out.

Might as well share a few recent WOFF UE videos.

Here, I get in a very bad spot and am saved in a most unexpected way.  The Gods of War saw fit to favor me for whatever reason!

DIII Engagement

On my way back from the DIII engagement mission, I realize I am being tracked by a Spad!   No choice but to engage and try to survive because I can't out run him,

Hellshade: In the "D.III Engagement" I thought I saw an all-red D.III in several shots. Was von Richthofen flying with you? In the last video, the SPAD tracking you seemed to be struggling for altitude. Was this the case? Does the D.V have a better 'max. ceiling' than the SPAD? At 5:07 the SPAD seemed to tumble in the air. Did he stall out? If so, it was a fatal mistake; he never recovered from it as you had the B&Z advantage ever after.

I discovered these latest videos almost by mistake this morning. Could you post future vids in the 'general discussion' section? Or post a 'heads-up' thread announcing a video in the 'Screenshot & Video' section?

Thanks,

Hauksbee

1.  That is the Baron, yes.

2.  He was struggling to climb against me.  Unless he had energy built up from a dive, I seemed to be better at climbing.

3.  I don't know who has the better max ceiling, JFM would probably be the expert there.

4.  The Spad did tumble.  He may have stalled out but once in awhile I think the FM may go a little 'wonky'.  May have been that too.
