OT. Wings (BBC 1976/77) Story of WWI fighter pilots

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I have just got the full series of this typically well written BBC drama about WW1 airmen. This was a terrific "little" series with fine acting and storyline and a sincere attempt to recreate WWI from the viewpoint of a young English bloke trying to become a fighter pilot. This glam job was usually reserved for the "toffs" who had money so we see the class war in action. Although not overly dramatic or meaty in content, the series does get you in and is worth enjoying until the end.

I thought some people might be interested. It is hard to get hold of, but I got my DVD's after I googled it

Now, it is not the best recording in the world, but it is watchable and all the episodes are there ( I think it has been recorded from UK Gold in the past). My DVD's arrived within 48 hours from Denmark.

I might add that I am receiving no commission

Here is a short snippet that may give you an idea of why I like it. (This is the actual airplane they are restoring over at http://www.biggles-biplane.com )

And below is a synopsis of the episodes.

Hope someone finds all this interesting.

Happy Days,

Conrad.

I have very fond memories of watching this as a youngster, a great idea, some great writing and acting too, but it was very compromised by its production values. Recreating the Great War with vintage aircraft on a shoestring budget is a tough job.
