Hard times to come for Camel pilots

Recommended Posts

My god - I just made my first flight on a Dr.1 in BHaH (and third flight ever).

What a demon plane! The three of us were attacked by four Camels.

They were approaching from the right, while we still had to start our engines.

Still though, I was higher up above, when they arrived. It felt almost like a

starting helicopter!

Their biggest advantage was me, not knowing this devil yet.

Apart from that, they couldn't get behind me at all, nor could they outturn me

or escape me in turns. Though the shooting with the nervous lady was terribly

hard, I could down two of the Camels. The wings had finished of the other two,

and one wing crashed short after.

Now I'm an absolute Albatros lover (and I'm an abiding lover), but I must have

one carreer with that Triplane, to see, how far I could get with such a witch.

Frightening! If you haven't tried her yet - do it. Incredible!

Have you tried the Fokker D.VII? When I first flew it I felt invincible. Haven’t tried the dreidecker yet.

Remember it wants to climb in a hard left turn and decend in a hard right turn and you'll be unbeatable in a turning fight. I too had problems with it's twichyness in gunnery. I had to turn on unlimited ammo for a few missions just to get used to it. I like to start a career a bit earlier than when it's available so I can have something to look forward too!

Olham be careful of over confidence in the plane (now I know what Voss went through), I had devleoped an ACE with 7 kills at 100 realism DiD/WTL in a Dr1 and got over confident. On the Aces' last day on earth, I single handidly attacked 7 SPADS and while I put up a spirited fight I ended taking a dirt nap.

Are you agressively adjusting trim? it eases some of the nerovousness the plane sometimes has.

That's not over confidence. It's tantamount to suicide, but fun! In a fight with SPADs, you're in it for the duration. They are a lot faster than the DrI and you have to kill them all because you can't run. I love the DrI, it's my favorite steed, but has it's limitations. Speed being the most obvious.

Well, MK2 - what could you do? By the time, you recognise the SPADs, they also see you.

And I think, you can't escape then anymore. 7 SPADs are a bit too much,I'd say.

Don't believe, there's enough ammo to down them all. Best would be to try to cripple them

so much, that you are the fastest plane. But I wouldn't have liked to be outnumbered that

much. You must have felt quite desperate soon...

And when them SPADs do their job RIGHT, and boom and zoom - no chance.

Yes, CAMELJOCKEY, it's a great war plane, and I'll have a go with her and learn to tame her.

All the right words

What did our friend Manny say about the DR1... ah yes,

"climbed like a monkey and manoeuvered like the devil." :diablo:
