Single aircraft purchases?

That he is at least considering selling single-aircraft mini add-ons for SF2E. I wanted to propose the following questions and see what you think about this:

Do you like this idea in general (buying add-on aircraft one at a time)?

What is the most you would be willing to spend for each individual aircraft add-on?

Would you buy such an add-on even if there was already a freeware model available?

Is this a trick question?

Edit.....

Sorry for the smart-ass remark...........a plane that had some updated avionics, like ILS and a moving map display with waypoint info........... I would, I'd pay the same amount as it costs for a copy of the whole game $20. I've paid dbl that for payware aircraft in FS, the problem is that there are so many amasingly talented people out there offering pieces of art for free that you would really need something like a big avionics upgrade to justify putting out extra cash. But if someone did.......count me in :good:

Yes I would be perpared to pay, but one question leads to another. Could I order planes? Would it stop there, could I order terrain and ground objects? After all Stock Vietnam Sea is pretty much done over by Agent Orange.

If it was a brand new game, it wouldn't really bother me, but now that we have nearly every cold war aircraft already available, and most modern ones, I really don't like it.

To make buying a single plane really worthwhile he'd need to model things in more detail(not more difficulty to use though), like pre-HUD/CCIP bombing aides or things specific to that aircraft (like the mig-23's or flanker radar displaying on a hud)

I'd much rather see an addon using an existing tileset for a new terrain and already available planes for a new campaign, with the money being spent on upgrading the functionality in the engine (things like the comms or escort Dave just suggested) Or one-off terrain mini addons.

would depend on the bird I guess, picked up Razbams Banshee and I did buy WOE simply for the Hunter though so if it interested me then yeah. (Scimitar, Sea Venom, hint-hint :tomato:)

LOL!

No, I didn't intend it to be a trick. I asked that particular question because that is what I see as being the main impediment to the success of selling single-aircraft packs. I would buy them just because I am a completest, but I'm curious what others think.

Would pay for quality jets and pits - although im not that bothered considering the amount that's already out there for free.

Would defo pay for add on terrains thats for sure - although it would have to go some to beat the GreenHell 2 and Brain repaint tiles out for free.

Guys keep this on topic about add on planes please. Let not go off on a tangent about other things.

Take for example aircraft carriers, perhaps Thirdwire might take the road of offering extra carriers or even a whole taskforce object set to buy, but ostensibly this is not beyond the scope of third party creators to make anyway, and so is in my view rather boring. What would be bloody brilliant is if for the price of the add on or even a whole new game, Thirdwire offered the consumer what cannot be made by anybody other than Thirdwire such as a fundamental improvement in the experience of carrier landings from a working meatball, lso commands etc etc etc etc

The only thing that has been mentioned is that the possibility of single-aircraft add-ons is being considered. Anything else is probably out of the question--especially anything that would require new programming such as task forces.

Well I have no problem buying payware add on, so hells yeah I would buy a single plane.

Depends.

If TK decided to model the P-51 family:

P-51A

A-36

P-15B

P-51C

P-51D

P-51H

and sold them as the "Mustang Pack" for like $25; I'd snap them up. Likewise, if he did a airplane pack which had a whole bunch of speculative WWII:1946 aircraft like the XF8B Five In One, XBTK, FR-1 Fireball, etc...

Given that you can get an entire game with several aircraft, terrain, campaigns, etc... for $20, a single aircraft add-on would have to be pretty cheap to compare cost-wise. But I don't know if it would be worth while to sell aircraft for one or two bucks.

What would be cool is an aircraft pack (2 or more vairants of the aircraft) and then all the necessary campaign.ini and campaign_data.ini entries necessary to get them in campaigns or maybe even mission sets.

For example the A-6 was left out of SF2:V. But I would pay $5-$10 for a package with A-6A, A-6B, and A-6E modeled/skined to thirdwire standards and campaign/missions files.

*edit* - damn. Took too long to type my post and someone else beat me to the idea!

I could see aircraft packs, but not single aircraft. As far as detail would go, they would need to compete with 3rd party mods. ie: high res skins, original pits, extra functioning features like fuel probes etc.

At this point, I'd rather buy ala-carte anyway. For those of us who have all the titles, how many times do you really have to re-purchase the same terrain, textures and Comm. building?

Something that TK has been great at is support but, how will he handle multiple aircraft support?

I would most definitely pay for a fully functional (given availability of unclassified info) F-22.

Same for a SR-71.

Same for a Tornado.

Probably the same for an F-14. (Great cold war stablemate of the F-15).

The point being, yes, I would pay for "study" aircraft that accurately simulated the specific avionics of that aircraft.

I'm ok just as long as the quality is better than 3rd party.

And I hope he squeezes in a little campaign that uses the plane in addition. Now that will make the purchase more interesting.

I think if he goes SP add-ons, Russian planes are way to go!

Reasons:

1.) Nearly every major, medium or even minor western plane is either made, or WiP(often a late one)

2.) Many times in past people have asked for the opposing force

3.) In case of multiplayer game some time in the future he would already have a finished art material

Now personally I would eat my shorts for nicely done Floggers, that would be sweeeeeeeeeeet, or maybe even some exotics like Tu-22 or Su-24...

I also think that if TK decides to take that road to check on what's available in terms of 3rd party, as time goes by the 3rd party is shining with more and more quality, quite often going over the stock TW stuff and most of the time atleast as good....

TW quality pits for red planes. Now I'm drooling.

Another Idea...

TK taking 3rd party stuff and improve them a bit (give quality control advice) to be fully SF2 standard.

Then sell them. He then gives royalties to the 3rd party modders.

Pros:

Less development time and resources needed.

Gives modders incentive to put up some top quality work.

cons:

Most current mods are collaboration of several individuals and also borrowed ideas and components from existing mods.

Modders become greedy and overly protective of their work.

Yup MiG-21's and 29's already have that thanks to Paladrian, just the 23's left :D

Given most of the titles use the same aircraft with only a few additions at a time, it is a bit more practical than things are as is. On second thought, it would be nice to have more propper pits and FMs, using the A-4 and F-4 pits ad nausium does detract from the experience of flying a meteor or whatever.

I would pay the price of a regular game ($40-50) for an in game mission builder.

I would, but I've also bought (nearly) everything else he has released. So, maybe I am not the best sample.

I probably would buy an European themed F-16 or Mirage III, but mostly out of loyalty.

I would be excited by an aircraft that has not yet been covered by TW or that does not exist as a TMF or other extremely high quality mod.

And anything that involves even slight avionics upgrades would definitely be a winner.
