I didn't see any missions with B52s so I went and hacked one up.

On their way downtown. They are suppose to hit the rail bridge but they seem to enjoy bombing residential areas instead.

Modified the mission a bit.

I have two flights of the NV 923rd up intercepting immediately as three flights of the NV 921st rise up from their airfield.

A flight of B52s is in route downtown after the SEAD and diversionary F-105D attacks.

Working on my B52 project, bombers appear right away with you behind them.

Bombers were able to finally hit rail bridge in Hanoi. Interesting you can see the bomb shock waves because of the dusk lighting.

Just focused on WoV at the moment. Hope to provide some full scale Linebacker missions eventually.

I'll probably try to modify the mission to play in '72 next, should be a lot a Air Defense. Two other flights of 105s are still on Strike mission. I'll probably change them into SEAD or Wild Weasel,

Changed the mission to 1972, should be some flak over Hanoi

You are F-4E escort for Austin, 4 cells of B52s. Two hunter-killer groups of F-4s & F-105s precede you in SEAD missions.

You need some B-52Gs from 1972 in there as well.

Well I added some early B52Hs to the strike mission from a package in the downloads area. This isn't the newest B52s that Dave has been working on but I think he worked on this package in some capacity.

Everything started out OK

But then things got interesting...

5.jpg

At first I thought the USAF Thunderbirds had hijacked my B52s but then I realized that they were doing evasive maneuvers and probably needed to be set up as individual planes instead of a twelve plane squadron.

2.jpg

I thought some flak had gotten some of my Big Birds but closer look I realized two bombers had collided

Of course all this jigging and jagging made a horrible bomb run

Updated B52 strike

Backed up the SEAD missions and their escorts so everyone arrives over target more at the same time.

Some of the enemy flights were flying low circles over their airfields. Tweaked them so that they get some alt.

You start behind the bombers but you probably want to use the extra fuel in your tanks to AP to the front of the attack formations.

Brilliant pics, especially the spherical orange sunset and the pressure bursts! Spectacular air-to-air collision as well.

I had the same problem with the Buffs jinking and weaving and cavortin' around the sky as well when I set up big Linebacker strikes. I am away from my games machine, so this is from memory. A while back when I was making those missions, someone gave me advice in these forums about how the real formations flew in Vietnam. If I remember correctly, he said the Buffs flew line astern with vertical gaps of 500 feet between them in cells of three to avoid jetwash effects. The first bomber was lowest and the third highest. By setting each bomber as a single ship, I was able to run in large, accurate formations that flew straight and level in the correct historical formation and walked the bombs across the target (in this case a NVN airfield). It was a bit of a pain but trial and error on KMD did the trick.

A massed B52 strike is something majestic.

Thanks for the advice Sandy :salute:

I use to enjoy in "European Air War" the large bomber formations. What a great flight sim.

Every time I attempt to download the B-52 mission file (regardless of which one), I get the "page not found" screen. Do you have another location for the download?

Thanks.
