OvS 8 Posted September 16, 2009 (edited) Well, it looks like 'ole Jimmy Carter stepped into the pile again... in the 70's, screwing up the USA... then 2 years ago pissing off the Israelis just wasn't enough.... now he goes and embarrasses the American white race. But honestly, calling Joe Wilson a racist because the outwardly accused Obama of lying... which is not the first time a senator has done this on the House floor ... of which he apologized and was accepted. He's a racist because he disagrees with the President??? Meanwhile, during his campaign Obama was linked to a church with a known racist pastor, he has already got himself caught up in a political/racial incidnet by saying a Mass Police department acted 'stupidly' in arresting Gates for being drunk, violent and threatening a police officer... Obama hired a known radical and revolutionary into his cabinet, meanwhile just 5 years ago this same man was denouncing the USA and calling it a Communist nation??? That's his circle of friends??? Wilson's a racist??? Man.... old Jimmy is really off-base here. Once again it amazes me at how quick that card is tossed down... and is always one-sided. Wilson called Obama a liar because he is.... tell me what president we've elected hasn't??? "I didn't inhale", "No new taxes"... "Well.... I don't remember"... "Our intelligence shows we found WMA's in Iraq" ... just to name a few... It might not have been the smartest thing to do, but it shows the man has guts, and is willing to stand-up for what he believes. BTW... Obama is half-white... I guess that side of him does not account for anything... as they keep calling him African-American... ??? He's not African-American.... he's bi-racial, or inter-racial.... but I guess that wasn't very marketable and would not have gotten him elected.... One-way street... If Justin Timberlake pulled a "Kayne West" on Byoncee... If Kim Clijsters made the comments to a black line judge like Serena Williams did to a white one ... If a black Senator stood up in the chamber and called a white president a "liar"... ... would they call them racists? I just want to know.... It boiled down to: disagreement isn't racism, but the hatred and fear goes so far deeper than policy and left vs right that his heritage(and a muslim name and background contributes probably more than skintone) definitely plays a part in it and that you can just see it in the eyes of some people. JediMaster 451 Posted September 16, 2009 (edited) Just because some of the people that disagree aren't racist doesn't mean you can claim none of them are. I've heard quite a few statements thrown about under the guise of politics that are definitely racist, and I'm not talking about big public figures, I mean just regular people at work and around town. Now, would this opposition still exist if Hillary had been elected? Of course it would, and then I'm sure in addition to the legitimate policy differences there would be underlying sexism as well. The Democratic primary race was full of veiled sexist comments thrown at her and veiled racist ones thrown at him on the public stage, and on the street the comments were blatant. So you can maybe rattle off the name of 100 people who are NOT racist, but you can't state there aren't ANY. Carter as usual has done little to help, but he's not 100% wrong either. He's just exaggerating. It's like there are 10 criminals in an administration and one side claims there are none and the other claims they're ALL criminals. Neither side is right, but are just both wrong in a different way! Oh, I'll bet we wouldn't have seen any of these seniors saying "we're scared of Hillary!" if she had been elected. They would've called her a socialist and maybe even a "pinko commie", but you know they wouldn't claim fear. Remember, they don't just say "I'm scared of what Obama is trying to change", they say they're scared OF him and say he's trying to destroy the country. To quote David Bowie, I'm afraid of Americans, because of their unflagging capacity to lie to even themselves about their motivations. I NEVER heard people make so many comments about how the President was going to be killed before he had the chance to run for reelection before! OvS 8 Posted September 16, 2009 Good points Jedi... It's all on how you look at it... but to toss a comment like someone is being racist, or thier comments are racially backed is really pathetic. Carter is out of line, and should not have stepped forward with his comments. He is using an old mentality on an issue that has changed since the 70's. Racism has expanded to literally disagreeing with someone of color now. I see this all the time where I work. I work with a 50/50 work force, made up of everthing from Irish, to Turkish, to Italian, to African... Jamaican, Barbadian, Trinidadian... EVERYTHINGIAN!! But I see it more and more, as soon as I disagree, I'm a racist. I was told once, "You didn't vote for Obama because you're a racist!". Nice huh? I should have put that on a t-shirt. I voted for McCain because he was more of what I wanted to represent me, and where I think the USA should be. To me, Obama was a movie star, a chance for a point to be made in history... and a democrat. I've been asked to be tolerant of gays, lesbians, blacks, hispanics, muslims, on and on and on.... but who is tolerant of me? BTW... what the hell is white anyway? My entire family is from Sicily which is Spanish, French, German, Lybian, Egyptian, Greek, Italian, African... and everything else that sailed a ship into a port... and people keep calling me white??? Just after the start of the first Gulf War, Carter gave a "Carter Center Briefing", on the so-called crisis. Not just Ole' Tricky Dick. I find it funny that the GOP's Political Tactics today have there Roots in the Democratic Party with the conservitive "Dixie-Crats" of the 50-60's. The late Senator Jesse Helms of North Carolina was a prime Example. His abrasive Tactics of Campaigning and Stances on Issues has been taking up by the GOP since the 80's. Even corrupt 'ol Teddy boy later admitted that it was one of the wisest moves ever by any serving president, as it saved the country both the expense, and the embarrassment of an investigation and prosecution. I was not too impressed by either Bush, when it came to both the economy, and domestic policy. They both compromised their ideals for political gain, as best evidenced by G.H.W. Bush's infamous "Read my lips" speech. His agreement with liberals in passing the resulting Luxury tax, put a crimp in the economy, and cost him the '92 election. You can't tell someone they're wrong anymore without it being instantly considered a personal attack on everything that person stands for, believes in, and is a part of! Tell a Dem they're wrong and you're a racist, you're a fascist, you're stuck in the last century, blah blah blah. Tell a Rep they're wrong and you're a communist, you're against family values, you're against America, blah blah blah. Tell some shmo they're wrong and you're calling them a liar, an idiot, AND insulting whatever religion/politics they support! We've reached the point where you have to agree 100% with one side or the other or you're dismissed as a member of the other side!
