Has anyone won the blue max with their DID pilot?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone had a flying bastard survive long enough to win the coveted blue max on the brutal DID standard? Post pics and stories if you have, so it can give me some inspiration as I bury yet another one who had such promise with 4 confirmed kills and 3 unconfirmed and then needlessly died in a gentle crash landing. I love this game, lol.

Nope, no Blue Max for me! Got to get the Hohenzollern but died short after!

To be honest, I don't think I'll ever make it. itifonhom

Creaghorn you are a modest man. You must be one of the definitely best flyers here.

But although you are superstitious, it should be allowed to congratulate you for a medal

that you already received.

And to avoid bad luck for you, I wish you: Rumpf- und Flügelbruch!

One day, you must show the log here.

I was once very close to 50 hours, but after that guy died, I haven't gotten even close to such hours again. The same pilot had already 20 claims (16 confirmed), so I guess I was very close to receiving Blauer Max. I suspect I've been flying too much in 1918, when it's practically impossible to live long and try to be so careful that no enemy ever surprises you or succeeds in shooting your plane to pieces. 200 hours is utterly beyond my skills to achieve.

In 1918, enemy activity is so heavy for Germans, that you can forget about warping -

after half a mile, you will be kicked out of warp again by message: Enemies near.

I have two pilots now, that might be on the right way, in 1917. But like Creaghorn,

I won't show them yet, as usually they get killed right after that.

thank you olham,

i'm definitely not near beeing one of the best flyers here. when a good AI or more then one are chasing me, i'm probably at least as lost as most people here. what saves me is avoiding getting into disadvantages like that. so SA maybe, flying skill rather not heat.gif

I'm usually NOT supersticious but I am now for OFF. By the time I speak for my pilot he dies, I think even when I change to another dossier kills him. I'm afraid that a time will come that I won't take a bath just for my pilot to live!!!

This sim is SOOOOOOO. immersive! itifonhom

I certainly haven't even had a pilot on the medals podium until just recently, with the Iron Cross being awarded to Lt. Johann Untreimeyer, but he's been lucky in the flights of French Sop.Strutters that seem never ending, although its started to get 'hairy' as now they're also sending N17 escorts. If we see escorts or suspect them, Johann and his flight dissappear like ghosts into the clouds. His flight has been shot to pieces and managed a barely flying machine home a couple of times-- by home I mean any friendly aerodrome will do. Most missions we don't even complete as we're intercepting flights of Strutters enroute to whatever locale we're attacking/patrolling, and if Johann has expended all his ammunition belts, then he and his flight just return home, usually limping home. Discretion and selectivity, and knowing when to tactically withdraw (i.e., "RUN AWAAAAY!") is simply my cunning plan. grin.gif

I lost probably 10 pilots up to Rolf, then three while waiting for one of them to amass enough hours to submit as a DiD (no rule, just didn't want to keep submitting names to Siggi until I had one who seemed to warrant it) which was Reiner, then when he died, I went through six more including a stab at a French pilot (SPAD VII) and a British pilot (Pup) who are now pushing up poppies in Flanders (and I've only been flying this sim since early September). I'm sure Johann will buy the farm soon enough and doubt that I'll manage to get him to 20 confirms.

'E 'asn't got no papers of 'is own,

'E 'asn't got no medals nor rewards,

So we must certify the skill 'e's shown

In usin' of 'is long two-'anded swords

-Kipling, "Fuzzy-Wuzzy"

The vast majority of my pilots, if they get decorated at all, only rate wound stripes which, unfortunately, ain't in the game. I've had a few decorated "heroes" who specialized in "let's you and him fight" and then bayonetted the wounding who are trying to limp away. For the most part, though, my "successful" guys will get the entry-level medal before buying the farm.

I figure I've been through somewhere between 100 and 120 pilots. It depends on how many times I've been through the alphabet for my Brit pilots, who die like flies in Bloody April. I really can't remember at this point. All my pilots of a given nationality have the same surname and 1st names that start with A, then B, then C, etc. My current Brit pilot is Laforey Bullethead, but whether he's the 3rd or 4th "L" Brit pilot, I have no clue.

Great flying, what are you flying and when? I got one fellow to 16 hours, then he stalled his Dr.1, a tail first spin, from 5000', and since then, 2 - 3 missions is the most I can get in February 1918 :(

Cheers,

They must have fooled you with a wrong craft, British_eh.

A Fokker Dr.1 doesn't do fatal tail-first skins from 5.000 feet - more than enough space

to get her nose down and get out of it. Or was it damaged?

Actually I've experienced exactly that in a Dr.1, although only once and in quick combat. I don't remember the altitude, but I wasn't very close to ground and could do nothing to escape from that tail-first spin. It looks and feels very strange to see such a light weight fighter keeping the heaviest part of her structure, the engine, on top and spinning wildly tail-first down to earth.

That wouldn't be right, I'm sure. That craft can perform almost anything,

but going down like that should be impossible.

Did you try with throttle full back and stick hard forward, rudder counter the spin?

And also, full throttle, stick forward, rudder counter the spin?

One of these two should work to get her out of the spin. Otherwise the FM should

be looked atagain.

I dont feel bad about posting it now (the OFF curse and all) but yes, young Ferdinand did indeed recieve the Pour le Merite flying DiD. He struggled a bit at first flying the Halberstadt, shooting down Fees but once the Albatros DII showed up he felt much more comfortable. The ocassional Bristol Scout made things interesting, even the odd Pup now and again (man those things can turn!). But alas, his luck ran out yesterday evening. It was 3 Albatrai vs. 8 Nieups (2 seperate squadrons). He spotted the first squadron low and dropped in to have a chat with them. Upon the "point of no return" he saw the other squadron... He and his wingmen gave em hell untill the very last second.

I'm fairly sure that was one of the fortunately rare glitches in OFF. I've once had a similar tail-first spin flying the Pfalz. It's a very deadly situation, because I was unable to have any control of the plane at all - nothing seems to help when it happens. But when I had it on the Dr. I, I was trying to see what the crate can and can't do and the spin happened after a particular fierce looping session. If it had happened in the campaign, it would have been annoying.
