Red Baron Movie

Recommended Posts

I never have, and I would much prefer a DVD version.

You can get an English version now, which I've seen here:

http://www.amazon.de/Red-Baron-UK-Tomas-Koutnik/dp/B002DMLG2Y/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1258298141&sr=1-3

The film wasn't bad, but don't expect it to be a historical von Richthofen.

If you imagine, it was just about another German Jasta with aces, it is pretty good.

Not enough air-combat in it for my liking.

I enjoyed it but not historically acurate (but does that really matter if you enjoy the film?) Nice to see some good looking albatrosses in a film.

That being said its practically a factual documentary when compared to the ridiculous hollywood rubbish that was 'Flyboys' so considering the lack of modern competition its definitely worth a watch.

Aces High was a better film but the aircraft where awful (inter war radial biplanes)

I would have liked to have seen more dogfighting, but it is well worth a watch, and is beautifully filmed.

I'll toss my 'Hat in the Ring' (OFF Add-on Plug) on this one...

For what it was, it was a good film as a core. The uniforms, setting, atmosphere, and backstaging were fantstic.

There is little to no historic value to Jasta 11, other than a few correctly named pilots. They do not fly J11 painted planes, and are considered wild and very immature... nothing close to what was written of the very militant MvR. Although Kurt Wolff was correctly shown wearing his good luck charm (his yellow sleeping cap), the rest of the lot were nothing close to what I read about.

The planes look fantastic... nothing else to say. What little dog-fighting/flight scenes there were, were very good and rendered very well.

Lastly, the characters and how they portrayed their historic actuals was terrible. LvR was shorter than MvR in the movie, and we all know that was far from truth. LvR acted like an annoying, jealous younger brother, and we all know historically MvR and LvR were very close... hence why LvR was in Jasta 11.

It was a good one for the archives... but as stated... useless for any historic info. But still, don't pass it up.

Enjoy it.

Yep - just imagine it being any other Jasta - then it works.

Yes - and Lanoe Hawker depicted as a wild eyed screaming killer flying an SE5 with a 'Grim Reaper' fuselage marking - and MvR and Roy Brown strolling along chatting after they forced each other down - and Roy Brown escorting MvRs girlfriend through the lines to visit his grave and, and - don't get me started :heat:

I would like to see a remake of Aces High (don't mind whether it was Allied or Axis) but with proper Aircraft.

For me, I found that film to be the most realistic I have seen on the subject.

Would be great, if "Aces High" and "Battle of Britain" could be restored (keeping the acting),

and get some great computer generated aircraft scenes added.

A remake of The Blue Max with more CGI and better acting (GP was good for 1966) would be my wish movie.

Then again... the flight scenes in BM were fantastic... why mess with them. ;)

Well, it would bo one of the stories, Peter Jackson could do.

Because it is a story about the war in the air, that works; because it has substance

other than the typical "nurse shows heroe the other side - and love" stuff.

Let's hope, he'll do it - or find a story even better!

Two excellent ideas!

Well, I guess films are hugely expensive to make these days, and you have to have a 'Love' interest, for the 'Saturday night at the Movies' crowd.

It wouldn't make it's money back if only the old OFF duffers went to see it!

Put's me in mind of my Dad...he used to like watching war films...but was very cross if a "Damn Woman was in it, ruining the action"

Not Free. They want a small amount of money and I received notice that it was not a secure web site.
