The storyline for my WWIII 1946 campaign has reached a point where the NATO Allies have used there vast invasion forces to isolate the Soviet Forces in Southern France, Northern Europe and the Mideast.

By amphibious invasions of Trieste, Murmansk, Riga and Novorossiysk (Black Sea)and a strategic bombing campaign they have left the vast majority of the Red Army on foot and starving far from home.

They are poised to take Kursk, Belgorod, Smolensk and Stalingrad in early September, 1947.

The US has 7 Fat Boy and Little Man Nukes available for use.

Stalin has declared that the WWIII will be won at Stalingrad.

My inclination is to nuke Stalingrad and have Stalin assassinated and everyone go home after the appropriate changes in the Soviet government are made ala Germany and Japan.

I would like your suggestions as to how to end this story.

I could see perhaps nuking Stalingrad, but killing Stalin wouldn't be easy thanks to his paranoia keeping only the most loyal close to him.

How about this one...

Spies find out that Stalin is in Stalingrad for a tour of the front. When the tour starts he notices that there is an ominous silence on the NATO side almost as if they had pulled back for some reason.

Just then a flight of B29s is picked up on radar at extreme altitude coming in from the South.

Stalin and his staff shove each other in their haste to get to their cars. Stalin is pushed to the ground but manages to get into the last staff car by shooting his chief of staff and pulling him out of the car. The cars careen away from the front when a hay wagon appears from behind a barn and slams into Stalin's staff car. He is not in his car but in the last car in line which slams into the car in front of it going 80.

Stalin is thrown from the car and lands with a sickening thud. He is conscious the whole time. He lands at a twisted angle and is on fire. He can see that his right leg has been ripped off but he can't feel the pain. In fact he can't feel anything from the waste down. The flames have cauterized his wounds so he does not bleed to death.

His twisted body lies draped over a railing next to a pig sty. He uses his last ounce of strength and falls off the fence putting out the fire which has charged 90 % of his body. Just when he thinks he can’t endure any more pain an 800 lb boar thunders over and starts to eat his face and the last thing he sees is a bright flash and feels searing heat and intense pain just as the boar starts to rip his scalp off. He lives for a half hour after the car accident screaming in horror and pain.

The mass murderer of millions is dead; burnt to a crisp as a nuclear bomb explodes overhead and incinerates the smoking ruin that was Stalingrad.

As the rest of the world and the USSR hear about Stalingrad and the death of Stalin. A violent revolution occurs and all the former communist leaders are hung in Red Square.

An armistice is called for and an unconditional surrender treaty is signed in Smolensk. The millions of stranded Soviet soldiers are fed, clothed and allowed to make their way back to Russian soil.

The USSR is broken up into historic and ethnic groupings. New nations are formed from the carcass of the former Union of Soviet Socialist Republic.

WWIII is over and the rebuilding can begin.

World War Three 1946 Readme

Storyline for 1946 WWIII

Introduction

January 23, 1946

Stalin's former allies have demobilized entire armies and have sent many of their armed forces home. The US and England have a fraction of their former forces stationed on the European mainland and have shown no backbone in resisting Soviet incursions. The only thing holding Stalin back from his vision of a communist Europe dominated by the USSR is the fear of the American nuclear bomb.

He has seen the devastation it has brought to the Empire of Japan. Although he has no doubt that his armed forces can storm through the blasted hulk of the former Germany and France he is held in check by the fear of nuclear destruction from the skies.

To intimidate Stalin further the US has based a squadron of B29 Super Fortresses in West Germany. The B29 is an offensive weapon not a defensive weapon. It is a first strike weapon. This only fuels Stalin's paranoia.

In addition his former allies are gathering far too many of the German scientists and their wonder weapons and stealing them away to work on even more destructive weapons and delivery systems.

Comrade Stalin needs to create a buffer so that the motherland is never subject to attack again. His vision is that all future wars will be fought in the no mans land that is the former Nazi homeland and he is convinced that there will be more wars despite the American atomic bomb. It's all a matter of where and when these wars will be fought because Capitalism and Communism cannot occupy the same space.

Some say the second atomic bomb that was dropped on Nagasaki was a demonstration for Stalin's benefit and to reinforce the power of the atom bomb in his mind. In addition it was to demonstrate that America has not only one but many bombs and is ready to use them. The plan has worked until today.

Today Stalin receives word through his spy master and massive network of agents that American has a total of only 6 nuclear bombs. Previously he believed that they had many more and this fear is the only thing that kept his paranoia and ambitions in check. With this news the plan for the domination of Western Europe begins.

No longer will the West be allowed to dictate it's will on the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics and Stalin. He will once and for all remove the threat to Mother Russia. No longer will there be a gun pointed at his head from West Germany.

A massive and very well concealed mobilization begins.

As a Major in the USAAF you have flown over 100 combat missions in both Europe and the Mediterranean. Because of your special status your official victory score is top secret due to the nature of you assignments.

You have been assigned to a special unit that is working on former German Wonder Weapons that are in our possession. Your specific assignment is to assess the combat capabilities of the various weapons platforms. As such you will be helping to design and test in any future combat situations, America's newest weapons systems.

Installation:

1. Find your folder with your IL2-1946.exe in it. There should be a folder that is titled Missions. Inside that folder is the Campaign Folder. Open that folder and find the US Folder. Open that folder. Copy the WWIII1946Fighter Folder into that folder/subdirectory.

2. The WWIIISkins folder contains skins that you might want to use to make the campaign more pleasing to the eye and more immersive. If you don't use the skins your Soviet planes will have no markings. Your campaign will run just fine but won't look as realistic.

The Skins folder is in the PaintSchemes Folder which is in the main IL2-1946 main folder.

The skins all start with WWIII and then the plane model. Unfortunately there are some changes I had to make so...

WWIIIYP80 goes in the P-80a folder

WWIIIP3 goes in the Pe-3 Bis folder

WWIIIP2 goes in the Pe-2 Series 359 folder

WWIIIAR234 Goes in the PR-234B-2 folder

WWIIIMig9 goes in the Mig-9FS folder

Place the individual skins in the appropriate folder: ie. the WWWIIILag7 skin goes into the Lag7 folder.

Starting you career

1. Go to Pilot Carrer

2. Choose USAAF with the rank of Major

3. Choose WWIII 1946

4. Choose the following in the Difficulty menus.

Turn off the following toggles. You do not want these options chosen for various reasons

a. Turn off Cockpit Always On - I want you to look around and see all the cool stuff

b. Turn off No External Views - For the same reason

c. Turn off No Icons - Those Lerches and ME 163 are very small

d. Turn off No Instant Success - Don't use this very often. There are some missions that just don't have anywhere to land in them.

e. Turn off No Map Icons - At this point in history radar was able to vector you to your targets pretty well so use the map to do this.

I need help in completing this massive project. Be a part of Air Simulation History. :yikes:

Another way to end the war is the "Red Storm Rising style". Soviet generals, after seeing what Stalin is getting them into, decide he is too dangerous for the survival of the USSR and decide to get rid of him themselves.

Good idea. Puts the evil where it belongs...squarely in the lap of Old Joe and not the Russian people. I like it. :salute:
