Israeli DAF pilots by elephant (WiP) *update*

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Dave, (USAFMTL), the other day, asked me for an Israeli F-15 pilot.

Real life obligations and a computer meltdown halted me for a while.

Yesterday, I gathered the info I was fishing all this time and started over...

In the pic below you can see pilots from the mid 60s and 70s to 80s and 90s

with different helmet-mask configurations according to historical documentation.

The F-15 and F-16 pilots in the pic are equiped with the first generation DASH helmet (Display And Sight Helmet)

from the 90s. Also sporting the official type (F-15, F-16) efficiency patch on the right upper sleeve.

All pilots also bearing an Israeli flag patch on the left upper sleeve...

More research to be done to have them nailed...

More to come from the 50s and early 60s up to date. :salute:

Oh, I didn't know that...I did't want to spoil it for you... :dntknw:

I actually used some parts from your great World pilots pack.

Being relatively new to the SF series I had to start from somewere...and your excellent work provided a fine basic template.

Of course you are mentioned in my credits, among the others who have also mentioned in yours...

You'll probably catch me up as I haven't concluded on my research yet.

BTW do you know what type of parachute harness was worn during the 60s?

I presume American back type like the ones worn in Korea but I'm not quite sure.

yes same tipe, and same life preserver,My God finding doucuments of Israeli flightgear is almost very very hard, cause they've modified most of US flightgear for their use!

In my research,I've done the following pilots and flightgear:

1950

same as an US pilots in Korean war P-4 helmet MS-2001 mask-DONE

1960

same as above but with the HGU-2 helmet with the MS-2001 (clip buttons) no bayonets and receivers-DONE

1970

All planes except A-4

same US flightgear from that period,HGU-2 helmet with MS-2001 with bayonets and receivers-DONE

A-4

same headgear but with USN MA-2 harness and life preserver-DONE

1980-1990

same A-4 flightgear but with long Mae-west,ULH helmet with MBU-5 mask and HGU-55 lightweight style bayonets receivers

(realized 2 different pilots one with white helmet and one with gray both with large felt areas on the visor cover)-DONE

1990

same as above but they introduced the DASH (your excellent work)

1990 to present

same flightgear but with HGU-55I and HGU-68I bot with MBU-12 mask and receivers, they differ from the standard western-US cause the front has a very large black area and a black triangle behind-ALMOST DONE

these are real pics of the modern ones:

Now I've got RL issues and not more time to work on,I really don't know how long can take!

But you can post yours,2 packs are better than one,no?

OK, but you seem to be far ahead on completing them first.

I found the same difficulties gathering info and my own research agrees by 99% with yours.

My only objection is the life peserver worn in the early years.

According to my findings the most common life vest, worn up to the 70s?

was the British Mk.4.

See pictures bellow and also some 6 Days War futage including Mirage,

Mystere and Vautour pilots wearing the very same vest.

Wip Preview No 2.

Pilots from the sixties sporting all the equipment mentioned in the above posts.

Notice the characteristic orange Mk.4 British made life preserver and

the faded kakhi flight suit.

The above documentary futage revealed that the APH-5 helmet was worn as well so I added one.

I have no clear evidence for the type of parachute harness worn by IDF/AF at this period

so I added an American back type similar to the one worn by USAF in the Korean War.

I've made 'em,both aph-5 and HGU-2, with straight visor cover and earphone laces, mind to modify the helmets cause the templates are made upon an HGU-34!

also don't forget the P-4!!!!!!

Sorry, not yet available, unfortunatelly... :dntknw:

Still working on them with X-RAY.

I had to leave on a buisness trip and we both have limited to zero spare time.

We are going to present an ultimate Israeli pilots pack, as historically accurate as possible,

from the 50s to present....As Soon As Possible... :salute:
