1948 War for Independence/1956 Suez Crisis

Recommended Posts

The readme said something about an alternate intall procedure for those of us that do not have a merged install with SF2E. Any more details on this?

I finally got the expansion pack, and, guys, this mod is great!

I think this might be enough to satisfy the occasional prop craving, which would allow me to take IL-2 off my hard drive and free up another 8GB of space for KAW!

The dreaded "readme" ... contains all the info necessary, reproduced here to save d/l time!

Israel add on to the expansion add on.

This mod encompasses a 1948 war for independence campaign and an add to the

Default campaign by adding most of the missing units and countries

Involved. It’s as close as I could get it but I am sure someone will say it’s

lacking something.

To install:

You must have the SF2:I Expansion pack installed with a merged install of SF2:E

(If you dont though I have an alternate install procedure)

Drag and drop into your main C:\Users\<username>\Saved Games\ThirdWire

\StrikeFighters2 Exp1. Let it overwrite any and all files. Now if you do

not have a merged install with SF2:Europe to get the Hunter 5, I made one

using one of the default Hunters in SF2:I. You will see that they're is a folder

called "AlternateHuntersCamp". In that folder you will see an "Objects"

folder and a "Campaigns" folder. Install those instead and you will be

squared away for using the mod without having to own SF2:Europe.

What the mod adds:

It will add an additional campaign called "Suez Crisis" That is the

expanded, version of TK's expansion pack.

If you wish to fly for the Arab side, guyran as made one called

"Arab Suez Crisis".

Finally there is the "War For Independence 1948"

This campaign represents the 2nd to 3rd phase of the Israel's war for

independence.

Also I added some real life pilots to the 1948 campaign for you to use as your wingman.

Known issues, if you are not flying as a carrier based unit, the carriers

themselves fail to show for the AI and they flounder in the water. To fix

this, once you are airborne, use the dreaded Alt_N and the units on the

carriers seem to be fine.

Some FM's are old as hell and without knowledgeable people to update them,

we are stuck.

Fly all planes on normal FM.

To make up for an overly good AI which doesnt

seem right because the EAF just did have good pilots.

I recommend flying the campaign on easy.

To me that balances out the AI perfectly to

represent the skill level of the combatants.

Just my suggestions though.

Thank you to these contributors:

Monty CZ for the S-199. What a masterpiece.

Florian for the updated RF-84F. She is uber good now.

Gunrunner for the RF-84F skins. Perfect is not the word for it.

Paul for the extensive work many many skins for the mod.

guyran for the Arab version of the campaign.

Wrench for the many add ons via Geo also the terrain work.

Jimbeamer5 for his skin work.

C5 for the FM work on the F4U-7

Crusader for fixing the AU-1 and the F4U-7 and all the little tweaks.

The Mirage factory for the Corsairs and other models.

Bunyap for the Seahawks and Harvard

Wilco my savior on the P-51 and Sptit skins

Pasko for the Mossie and the MD-450

Veltro for the Stirling and Halifax mods. Thanks Ed.

kulbit80 for some skins a planning maps.

eburger for tons of fixes and the MK1 eye ball.

Lloyd for the skins on the Mossie and the Sea Fury

Skippybing for the Wyvern.

Kess for the pits.

Hinch for the great carriers.

If I forgot anyone, let me know. I will correct it.

My apologies ahead of time.

Enjoy

That did it--but preceding "Drag and drop into your main C:\Users\<username>\Saved Games\ThirdWire

\StrikeFighters2 Exp1. Let it overwrite any and all files." with "Extract all files to a temporary folder, copy/select them and . . . " will avoid further pleas for help from blockheads.

Anyway, it looks great. I've been looking for a sim like this since I read the memoir of this guy:

http://101squadron.com/101real/people/levett.html

The quotes will provide a flavor of his style. Unconditionally recommended.

Sorry about the confusion, I sometimes forget not everyone has been doing this awhile. Hope you enjoy the mod.

B2 canberra

only loads one tip tank if you touch it, shows empty but if you do nothing, both are default loaded (load screen will say empty)

if you attempt to load it will load one, on entering cockpit, aircraft will bounce on the left wing until left tip tank falls off

work around is dont touch it and jett after take off if you dont want them.

loving the canberra and the SeaHawk

I just double-checked the Canberra tanks -- they're showing up fine on my installation. Are you sure that all the files in the ZIP I uploaded were put in their proper place?

As for the MiG-15 37mm gun -- that's marked as a secondary gun, not a primary gun.

I do not have a fully merged install that includes SF2I and the other SF2 titles, so I'll have to check into the Hunter tanks later.

Attached are two files:

1) Hunter5_Fixes.zip

Contains fixes for both versions of the Hunter F.5 -- the main one (for use by folks with merged installs including SF2I & SF2E) and the "Alternative" Hunter F5 (for use by folks whose SF2I installs are NOT merged with SF2E).

2) MiG-15_Slippers.zip

Contains new files to add the 300 gallon slipper tanks to the MiG-15bis. The slippers are set to load only in the AirtoAir loadout (used for Intercept & CAP missions), not the AirtoAirLongRange (used for Escort & Fighter Sweep). If you want them loaded for all air-to-air missions, edit the Loadout.ini accordingly. Also, I restored the 37mm to a "primary gun."

thanks

the mig 15 i will leave as is since i have a two postion trigger and its nice to be able to fire the 37mm seperatly (both 23mm+37mm will fire if trigger fully depressed) its ekes the very limited ammo load out a bit, the RAF hunters usually only fired a pair of 30mm at a time so i may well try and set the hunter up the same way if i can figure out how

can the canberra B2 have the 1000lb bombs restored in the campaign load out ?

this should be 6x1000lb OR 9 x 500lb (not the 12 x 500 currently allowed, the external view with the bomb doors open shows the correct number (6x1000lb or 9x500lb...single mission)

"The Canberra played a part in many conflicts, being employed as a bomber by the RAF during the Suez Crisis, with around 100 aircraft involved, flying bombing and reconnaissance missions from both Malta and Cyprus.[9] A total of 278 Canberra sorties were flown, dropping 1,439 1000 lb (450 kg) bombs"

the B2 canberra in this add on and from a different perspective is way more fun than you might think

it took a accidental key press (tail hook) to find the canberra has a glass nose aiming position and a functioning bomb sight

how cool is that

ok hunter F5 works a treat and i have spit the cannons to fire seperatly (2x30mm or 4x30mm)

MiG15-bis slipper tanks work fine and again i have split the guns (2x23mm or 2x23mmm+37mm)

slipper tanks do not jettison on the mig ...i think they should ...problem same as the hunters ?

in the campaign, both the canberra B2 or the Migs fuel tanks are not a selectable option (they are single mission)

i have no idea what file that might be in to take a look

Tomb:

Attached is a small collection of updates to the campaigns that do the following:

1) Add tanks to the available weapons for the Canberra B.2 and MiG-15bis.

2) Add the MK10_1000_LD to the available weapons for the Canberra B.2.

As for the MiG-15 slipper tanks not jettisoning, you can change that functionality yourself by changing the following statement on each of the tank stations in the aircraft's DATA.INI from TRUE to FALSE:

NoJettisionTank=TRUE

We probably will eventually. Let's let this ride for another few days -- maybe a week -- and then collect everything that gets reported. The new fixes are available here for those who want/need them.

thanks folks, i appreciate your efforts and realise you cant test everything in a mod this size...

taking a look at the seahawk at the moment, the spin/stall characteristics are well out of order...(departs like a highly swept wing with a low B>A ratio...instead of a more benign straight wing it actually has

might take a while to adress that issue...i am learning as we go

i am learning a lot from the files you are sending about what goes where

thanks
