i was reading abt s-400,one thing got me confused.

the system has 3 radars,1 the grave stone which is the engagement radar.

2nd and 3rd are Cheese Board and big bird radars, these r called acquisition and search radars.

can u plz explain the difference b/w engagement and acquistion.

also if u can also tell why these 3 r used wen 2 can be used.

and if we represent this system in game engagement radar wud be grave stone thats sure, but who will be the EW_radar, big bird or cheese board.

The engagement radar (sometimes referred to as the "height finder") is the radar that is used provide direct guidance to the missile. In TW-game parlance, it's the "SAM" radar.

The acquisition radar's function in real-life, by definition is (as the name implies) to acquire targets based on the bearing info provided by the search radar, and to hand those targets off to the engagement radar. Though there is no object role so defined in the series, ground objects (namely ships) may be equipped with dedicated search, track, and height finder units. MarcFighter's Kiev is an example of this.

Erik Gen's Nike site is equipped with all three of the aforementioned radar types.
