Aero L-39C/ZA/ZO Albatros for Strike Fighters 2 series (Europe, Israel)

 

Installation:

Under Win7 or Vista unzip content into User\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2(...)\Objects

Under WinXP is the destination in MyDocuments\ThirdWire...

 

History (from wiki):

The Aero L-39 Albatros is a high-performance jet trainer aircraft developed in Czechoslovakia to meet requirements for a "C-39" (C for cvi?ný – trainer) during the 1960s to replace the L-29 Delfín. It was the first of the second-generation jet trainers, and the first turbofan-powered trainer produced, and was later updated as the L-59 Super Albatros and as the L-139 (prototype L-39 with engine Garrett TFE731). The design is still produced in an evolved state as the L-159 ALCA, while more than 2,800 L-39s still serve with over 30 air forces around the world. The Albatros – the most widely used jet trainer in the world – is versatile, seeing duty in light-attack missions as well as in basic and advanced pilot training.

Simply amazing work! It has to be the best user-made aircraft for the SF2 series. And it's so refreshing to see a trainer, even more considering it's not your usual NATO hardware...

Just one small thing: On the "C" version (L-39C) I can't hear the engine sounds. All works fine on versions ZA, ZO. Is it just me?

I have a very updated and patched-up version of SFp1...so moving away from it is going to be tough. I have a few backwards-transfered aircraft for SF2 in SFp1 (the new F-14's, a B-1B)...I do the Unicode to ANSI 'conversion' for the files I need to...but all I get is a still (non-moving), invisible object...any ideas? I have visited the SF2 Knowledge Base on this and nothing seems out of the ordinary in what I'm doing...

the sound problem with L-39C is due

EngineSoundName=AL-21F-1

instead of

EngineSoundName=JetEngine

in data.ini on other versions

I believe AL-21F-1 is sound from EXP2 so without it you have to change it.

Changed the .ini file and it all works fine now! Thanks guys for the suggestions :)

 

Love the normal maps, btw. It's good to see those bumpy metal plates between the panel lines. Top job!

Only Monty could do that by changing (converting) 3d files to LODs old code for first gen and skins from DDS to BMP. And then some ini works.

I converted the DDS to BMP (beautiful skins btw) and ANSI'ed the ini files. But I don't know how to do the LOD work.

Can anyone help?

Impossible to use these LOD models with the 2008 SF1 series. But when you install WOI addon released in 2010 you should

be able to to use these LOD's, as well as .DDS and Unicode ini files.

(I found only the December 2010 SF2E Expansion pack 2 models, such as the Lightning, cannot be used with the WOI addon game)

 

...Why are the distance LOD's of the L-39 hardly any smaller then the main LOD?

Great work MontyCz, the model is visually pleasant, the cockpit is functional and, last but not least as it's often overlooked in the mods, the documentation is exemplary!

 

There's a very small typo in the "L-39ZO_USERLIST.INI" file though, as Libya is spelt "Lybia" in it.
