Adding a fuel tank to the A-4

I have added the Kuwaiti A-4 Sky hawk but I am having a hard time adding the fuel tank to the bird.

 

this is my A-4F-KAF_Loadout.ini file. I have tried to add TANK300 is that correct name to the fuel tank??

Hi, I don't have that plane in my install at the moment so I can't check the exact details.

 

Have you checked the planes data ini in the weapons station section. If a station is fuel tank enabled there should be a line at the bottom of the stations listing saying FuelTankName="what ever the name is" This will be the tank you need to list in the loadout ini.

 

Also check that you have this tank in your weapons folder if it is not a stock item.

Try Tank300_A4 at work at the moment so doing this from memory OK. Ps. I have a Kuwaiti skin coming for the new SF 2 series model which will have moded tanks, will not be ready till next year.

Thanks for your help I have found the files and did the alteration but the tank is not showing...

Assuming you havent installed the tanks using the weapondata.ini (the old way)- the tanks wont work because they are in the old format for SF1 Games.

 

To install them the new way so the game picks them up either look at your other custom SF2 weapons or look here in section 1 http://combatace.com/topic/44031-guide-to-converting-old-weapons-from-the-strike-fighters-1-series-to-the-new-plug-and-play-weapons-for-the-strike-fighters-2-series-by-migbuster/

 

You need at minimum a .ini and .data.ini in the folder - but just create them using other weapons as a guide.

In ALL SF2 version, the drop tanks are PART of the aircraft lod, therefore you can't really add a 'physical' new tank, without removing the nodes for the existing built-in ones, via data ini edits. (like was done for the F-84F SuperPak).

In one respect, it makes things easier, in haveing 'skin/squadron specific' drop tank skins that are placed IN the aircraft's skin folder. So, no more hexediting of lods to create clones of originals

 

BTW, you're missing a step anyway ... covered in the 1sGen KB on weapons and hardpoint editing. (hint: data ini callout)

DO try to spend some time in the Knowledge Base -- 90% of your questions have already been answered. Start at the top, with the first post, and read EVERYTHING in there.

 

The other piece of valuable advice, is play the game for several weeks, getting used to how things are, examine/explore teh folders and files, getting intimately familiar with the system and structures, and then and ONLY then, start modding when feeling comfortable with the system. It's like anything else, the learing curve is not too steep, but a basic solid understanding IS required

I have just been through the same rigmarole with the A4-F. In the end I got it down to using the names TANK300_A4a and Tank300_A4nf in the end and it works fine but they may be the wrong colour for you because you are looking for the A4-K. It took a lot of to-ing and fro-ing between the various inis and the weapons editor and weaponsdata.ini, but I got there in the end. The critical thing is to have all of the same designations everywhere! This is what it looked like, for example, for the FAC, and the tanks all showed:
