I did an ATI 800PRO x ATI9800PRO Benchmark test

I posted this at SimHQ and I though it would be interesting to share this with you guys, I did an ATI 800PRO x ATI9800PRO Benchmark (3DMARK03) test.

 

Same system - I only changed the card

 

(AA and AF set at app pref)

Date: 2004-10-01

CPU: Intel Pentium 4 2800 MHz

GPU: ATI RADEON X800

473 MHz / 446 MHz

OS: Microsoft Windows XP

Res: 1024x768@32 bit

Date: 2004-04-23

CPU: Intel Pentium 4 2800 MHz

GPU: ATI RADEON 9800 PRO

378 MHz / 338 MHz

OS: Microsoft Windows XP

Res: 1024x768@32 bit

But how often do you play 3DMark? ;)

Fps/image quality is where it's at .... :)

My limited mind has seen on the internet where the only real difference between the 9800 and x800 was simply image quality, not FPS....is that somewhat true, or could you lower the image quality down to 9800 quality to gain more FPS?

I am just starting to use it, but FPS is higher no doubts.

I will post later on a thread with screenshots from a mission that I made that I know to be particularly FPS challenging, then we will see.

this sequence is quite telling, the sky is overcast and if there is a frame killer it is flares and explosions
