How Did You Find OFF?

Recommended Posts

.I took a left at RB3D and followed the signs.

...or, you could just follow the tracer.

2009. Right after I had contracted a virus that did a bit of nasty work on my equipment. Had to foreswear internet porn after that! A damn shame. Well, with plenty of free time I found other stuff on the internet including OFF. Actually, I was over at Third wire and saw this. Liked what I saw and bought it. Much safer than internet porn but for some reason not as loud.

A dubious comparison there, gordohk, but good that OFF showed you there are other things in life.

Well Olham, I have too agree somewhat. Thirdwire's First Eagle wasn't nearly as immersive.

There may be a lack of immersion in First Eagles, IMHO it is more than made up for with when using the outstanding flight model mods of Peter01 and Ojcar that make the AI extremely dangerous and challenging to fly against. HPW's FM/EW Mod is marvelously good for AI and in fact it is near perfect, and BTW he is still tweaking it.

I started flying with Microsoft Flight Simulator back in the days. It has to be version 1.0. IIRC it had a primitive air combat feature with wire frame graphics. My first equipment purchase was a decent MSFFB joystick. Of course, it was a Microsoft product as well. I cannot recall which came first - Falcon.3 or Red Baron. I settled in on RB3D with Fill Canvas Jacket and Hells Angels Mods. I spent alot of time on Delphi Forums. I played around some with European Air War and IL2 Sturmovik and FS-WW1 and CFS2 and CFS3. I upgraded each as the new versions came out. Then I discover OFF Forum on Sim Outhouse . OFF2 was current and fell in love with WW1 combat and those beautiful aircraft skins. I haven't looked back. Of course, Third Wire First Eagles and most recently Rise of Flight takes some of my flight hours. But I always come back to 'Over Flanders Fields: Hat in the Ring' for a good ol' WW1 Air Combat Fix.

What was your handle back on the Delphi forum, OlPaint01? I also got my start in flight sims with Red Baron II, just before the update to Red Baron 3D. Back then, my handle was simply "Propwash."

Took the words right out of my mouth! I was just about to ask the same questions. Didn't realize you were Propwash from Delphi... I probably should have. grin.gif Delphi... now that is going back a way. Do you ever drop by for a look these days? It's painfully quiet - kind of sad to see actually.

I think my handle was dpaint on Delphi. I mostly lurked but I read all the flight sim forums religiously and downloaded all the updates for RB3D. I do believe I still have all of Pat Wilson's Western Front Mods. And Bletchley's posts were my favorites. And SWWSA(?) and what else what ever?

Great Fun.

Yup, a lot of old "faces" from Delphi now hang out on this forum. I remember Delphi with a mix of both happiness and sadness--mostly happiness. That place was a little more free-wheeling than this place--UncleAl would have felt right at home there! Of course, there were two topics that were guaranteed to start a flame war--gun control and the correct FM for the Dr1. I can still feel some of the heat from those discussions!

Although I rarely visit Delphi anymore, I still have it marked as one of my "Favorites" in my bookmarks.

By the way it's funny to see this FM war has been carried on to the RoF official forum with the Camel and the DR1...
