NATO Fighters IV+: Post-Dec2009 Update Pack # 4

-----------------------------------------------
NATO Fighters IV+: Post-Dec2009 Update Pack # 4
-----------------------------------------------

This package contains a fourth update pack for the NATO Fighters IV+ (NF4+) add-on designed for "Strike Fighters 2: Europe" (SF2E) from ThirdWire. It does several things:

1) Adds new aircraft and ground objects

2) Makes several aircraft flyable

3) Adds new textures to existing aircraft

4) Updates over 100 weapons and guns

5) Fixes or updates numerous other files in the
original NF4+ mod

6) Updates items for Exp. Pack 2 compatibility

This update pack should be applied to SF2E/NF4+ installations that are patched to the Dec2009 or later patch level -- including Feb2010, Mar2010, May2010, Jun2010, or Dec2010 -- and that already have the first, second, and third NF4+ update packs applied.

Please note the those running SF2E Expansion Pack 2 (Dec2010) will have an additional installation step to add Exp. Pack 2 update files to their installations. There are also several "optional" items included in this package -- see below for more information on what they are and how to use them.

If you are running SF2E at the Jun2009b patch level and do NOT intend to update to one of the later patch levels mentioned above, you should NOT apply this update pack.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Installation
~~~~~~~~~~~~

BEFORE YOU INSTALL

Before installing this update pack, please ensure that:

- your SF2E installation is patched to at least the Dec2009 patch level;
- the original NF4+ add-on is installed;
- the first, second, & third update packs (or patches) are applied to
your NF4+ installation.

The four original NF4+ installation packages can be obtained from CombatAce:

http://combatace.com...-1-main-folder/
http://combatace.com...objects-folder/
http://combatace.com...craft-folder-1/
http://combatace.com...craft-folder-2/

The first three update packs can also be had at CombatAce:

http://combatace.com...09-patch-level/
http://combatace.com...-update-pack-2/
http://combatace.com...-update-pack-3/

The latest patches for Strike Fighters 2 can be downloaded from ThirdWire:

http://thirdwire.com/downloads.htm

INSTALLING THE UPDATE

Installation of this update is simple.

1. Copy the contents of the \All_Patch_Levels directory to your SF2E Mod Folder,
overwriting as prompted.

If you are NOT running Exp. Pack 2, then you're finished. If you are running
Exp. Pack 2, then you have one more step.

2. Exp. Pack 2 Only: copy the contents of the \Dec_2010_Patch directory to your
SF2E Mod Folder, overwriting as prompted.

That's it. You're finished. Please look over the next section on "optional" items included here that you may want to install.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Optional Items
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The \_Optional directory included in this package contains files to make three aircraft flyable (one available only in Exp. Pack 2). If you have SF2I you might have already made the other two flyable, in which case you you do not need these files.

Here's what's available (by directory).

Canberra20: Contains files to make the Exp. Pack 2 Canberra B.20 flyable. If you
installed Exp. Pack to an install merged with the original SF2 (w/ the
mercenary canmpaign and Desert terrain) then the Exp. Pack 2 installer
should have dropped the Canberra20 in your \Aircraft folder. Simply
copy these files to your \Objects\Aircraft\Canberra20 folder to make
the aircraft flyable.

Mirage5F: Update 3 included files to make the Mirage 5F flyable, but additional files
from SF2I were required. If you do not have SF2I, you can use the alternate
files in this folder to make the Mirage 5F flyable. Simply copy these files
to your \Objects\Aircraft\Mirage5F folder to make the aircraft flyable.

MystereIVA: Update 3 included files to make the Mystere IVA flyable, but additional files
from SF2I were required. If you do not have SF2I, you can use the alternate
files in this folder to make the Mystere IVA flyable. Simply copy these files
to your \Objects\Aircraft\MystereIVA folder to make the aircraft flyable.

Are there any issues that I would need to watch out for if I were to apply the Alternate 1986 Red Storm campaign for NATO Fighters 4+ Dec 2009 Patch and Beyond in conjunction with this patch level of NF4+ and SF2:E Expansion Pack 2?

Test it and find out. If there is let us know. Remember to back up your campaign files first.

Peter:

Thanks, we'll see if we can figure it out. Looks like the target area simply needs to be repositioned slightly.

If you see it again in a mission, please save the mission to disk and post it.

Extract the HUDData.ini from the /Flight cat, place in /Flight folder.

Open and edit the following line (or just copy/paste the text below OVER it)

[Debug]

//DisplayDebug=FALSE

DisplayDebug=TRUE

that'll bring up the coordinate display. You'll need to note the 2 six digit numbers (123456, 789123). Those are the map coordinates. It'll also show/tell you the "NearestTargetArea=", which helps too

then, it can be retiled or moved or whatever

(you can turn OFF the displa by hitting Alt/H 3 times)

ok, I did a flight over north-west germany and the netherlands.

All of the airfields I flew over had trees on it.

so, before I can say it's a bug, does anyone else have trees on Twente AB? or did I do something wrong?

this is Twente AB (The Netherlands)

med_gallery_23070_545_226710.jpg

med_gallery_23070_545_576183.jpg

Then I spotted this: (near Twente AB, and also somewhere in germany)

med_gallery_23070_545_151210.jpg

turned out to be a nice collection of traffic sings:

med_gallery_23070_545_255080.jpg

Anyone else having those?

Maybe its my fault, so please can someony verify?

I cant remember having this before NF4 update4

No trees on Twenthe's runway nor mass of road signs here my dear neighbour.

I've got no trees at all (all options maxed out) and I haven't been able to find road signs, be it on map or in the files, though.

My system is WinXP Pro 32 bits SP3, HD4850 (Dx9) and my gamse is a combo + both expansion packs.

Guys I did a total fresh install of this and I haven't found anything like that. I would recommend a total clean install of all the NF4 parts. I can almost bet that will cure your problems

Hey Peter and Dave FYI on my initial install i had the same problems as mentioned above however I didn't post anything because i just did as Dave stated a full clean reinstall and eveything is ok now. i had Giant cows and trees on the runway ... It reminded me of the Old gateway computer commercials with cows everywhere. :yikes:

Am I supposed to see trees displayed with Dx9 Dave?

Thanks for the update! :salute:

There's just one thing i'd like to point out. In the update some tanks were given the ability to shoot at air targets, I just found this out the hard way when i was tasked on CAS-mission against some T-55's in 1956. The mission ended with my Mystere getting shot down by two (2) direct hits from 100mm cannons. Even before my demise, the air was filled with cannon round streaking very close to my plane.

I doubt this was the intention, so is there any way to prevent tanks from firing their cannons at me and restrict them to only use their AAMG's? If this is not possible, how could I at least make the cannons less accurate?

JJava:

The easiest way to fix that problem is to simply remove the ability of tanks to fire at air targets. For each tank in \Objects\GroundObject, open the DATA.INI. Then under the sections DetectSystem & WeaponSystem, change TargetType=AIR_AND_GROUND to TargetType=GROUND.

To restrict the tanks to firing at air targets only with their machineguns, we could implement Gunners, but that will take a little time and testing.

Does this work well with the Jan 2011 patch? I see in the notes above it references the Dec 2010 patch, but I guess there was a new patch from Thirdwire in January. I think I have to reinstall everything from start, so I am trying to make sure I do things right :) Thanks!

Thanks Dave!

Another question, what's the recommended SF2/x install, merged or not merged? Will this install work?

SF2

SF2V

SF2E

SF2Exp2

or is this better?

SF2

SF2E

SF2Exp2

or this?

SF2E

SF2Exp2?

Does it really matter? :) Thanks again!

At the risk of being clowned upon, I installed SF2, SF2E, and Exp2. I then installed the NF4 packages & updates in order. I'm not able to edit the missions. Any ideas what is wrong?

Never mind, seems to be working now...
