Could someone please do me and the other kiwis out there a huge favour and overhaul/update this New Zealand terrain for SF2? I tried using the instructions here at combat ace but there are still various issues that require expert help.

Cheers,

Dan.

This is not all that bad, for a first effort. Is it safe to assume this is a beta release??, as there's a LOT of annoying (well, to me!) issues.

1) unflattened airfields/airbases not centered on the 'cleared zones'

Gisbourne need flattening; all other moved to center & rechecked

2) missing transitions/tiles misplaced

approx coordinates: 831688,643291

3) city 'target objects' not centered/placed with city tiles

haven't checked them all .. but Gisborune and Palmeston

4) lack of (my words!) usable targets...where are the ports??? NZ should be covered with them!

5)missing tiles (see screenie below)/odd placements/transition issues

there's at least 3-4 that I found right off at approx

Hastings 799221,544475

Christchurch 540396, 310289

Blenheim 629501,431654

"nearest target area" Timaru AB 415826,335075

Massive mismatching of all tiles, totally lacking in sea/land transitions around the coordinates above

again, these are NOT slights ... just pointing out some obvious errors, that are easily corrected. Like I said at the start, it's a GREAT beginning --- I LOVE the mountains!!

Fantastic! My Kahus were looking slightly out of place in Darwin. :p

yes, we know. The targetization leaves a lot to be desired (as well as the tiling). Targeting was done via copy/paste, without checking the actual physical locations in-game.

It'll get fixed, eventually

Spanish or whatever, you're a damn fine terrain builder for my money !!! What an effort for a first timer, I am a complete nono at this sort of thing. And remember: nothing is perfect.......... :good: :good:

This is an very interesting and nice terrain, thanks Tonix.

I just flew over Taranaki (Mt Egmont) in the west coast of the North Island (I climbed it once, years ago), and it looks great.

I found some typos in the NewZealand_Targets.INI file, which are easily fixed:

Invercagill should read Invercargill

Maesterton should read Masterton

Mangouni should read Mangonui

This is both for the town and the airbase, for all three.

Also, in the NewZealand_Nations.INI file I think it works better as:

[Theater]

TheaterName=New Zealand

Location001=North Island

Location002=South Island

There are the occasional white tiles and some hilly sea, but overall it is a great terrain, thanks again.

all being taken care of .. I even split it further into Tasman Sea and Pacific Ocean. City/airport names, etc, spelling corrections being done.

Sea levels adjusted, and missing tiles replaced (mostly caused by over use of 3-way transitions -city/rock/grass or grass/city/rock tiles), some areas retiled to fit (Wellington for example), rivers added. Even stripped it of the supplied tiles, and let it pull from the GermanyCE.cat; reduces folder/download size.

Like been said before, it's a GREAT first effort -on the terrain itself!!- the mountains are really cool! But (oh! that word!) further development of the targets ini (acurized targting & tiling) is required, and already in the works.

The best terrain guy around here is already on it, despite having 3 others well developed, and in the pipeline (Central America, Cuba, MidwestUSA)

Tonix, I'd suggest reading my targeting tutorials in the Knowledge Base. And studying GoogleEarth images of region.

some screenies are up in the SF2 Forums, in dtmdragons theard about the terrain
