To my grandpa

Henry did carpentry work most of his life, a builder met Gen Patton for a second!!

My grandfather, who was an MP during the German invasion of the Netherlands

and who refused to do their dirty work after the capitulation. He had to hide

during the whole war (in Amsterdam) where he met his future wife.

 

Unfortunately war left his scars (on him, too...) and he was never the same

again, being an introvert 6feet 3inches giant with a big temper and a big

heart.

 

I was the first one to hear his story; he could relate to me as I have

been in a war as a UN peacekeeper and he was proud of that.

I was at his bed when he passed away, couldn't be more proud!

To my father, who endured unspeakable hardships as a slave labourer in Japanese prison camps at the Birma Railroad and survived to be my father. Died in 1968 as a late victim of what happened to him during the war.
