I'm just not used to AI creeping back home keeping under 500m AGL. Thought he was going to crash for a moment. Nope, the bastard goes level and starts chasing tumbleweed.

 

Or an entire wing of German F-4Fs hiding from Floggers in the bushes.. that was brilliant. Didn't help them much though.

Don't know about you, but for me, it's usually the Primary target!!! (bomb long, bomb short. even with nukes I can miss it!)

Must admit I have noticed that whenever I arrive the bad guys leave and not in that exploding all over the sky way... more a case of OH (Expletive Deleted)!!! he's arrived lets go home fast... No matter what I am flying if its an OV-10 or an F-14...

Are you sure that's not after mission success/fail called? In theory all planes not currently engaged should RTB when that happens (even though IRL the enemies wouldn't know and wouldn't leave just because you blew up that fuel tank).
