I made this little campaign for the waterworld terrain, made by Wrench. The interesting thing is that since the amount of airfields and aircraft is so small, it should be very noticable when there are losses on either side.

But I don't think there is much room for ground war here. Which gives problems regarding the ending of the campaign. When the enemy is out of aircraft it seems you get endless assignments of recon flights.

I guess I could set a fixed enddate. but is there any trigger for Success when the enemy is out of aircraft? or some other trigger that seems more real?

Why not create ship to ship ground war?

 

How to do it can be seen in Midway campaign available here at CA in SFP1 d/l campaign section.

The game engine need ground units to decide wheter victory or not. Victory is only achieved when the enemy base area is captured.

one of the reasons I DIDN'T add ground attack routes ... there just ain't enough land for it. (hence the name 'Waterworld', mentioned in the readme, iirc)

 

Imagine running a CAS mission over Tokara Island ... the SAMs would kill ya before you even got close.

Thanks for the info.

Even for ship battles, the distance between the two bases may be too small.

I guess I will just have to manually conclude the campaign when the enemy is out of air units.

Despite that little flaw the campaign is still enjoyable.

You can create a custom set of campaign waypoints on the sea for your ship to ship ground war. Do that by adding a set of new target areas in the terrain TARGETS.ini file. They don't need to have any groundobjects placed there, you just need them to use as strategic nodes in your campaign data.ini file. You can specify a unique frontline and campaign strategic nodes for each campaign in the campaign_data.ini.

 

Use the existing base areas as your base nodes, and link them with a join-the-dots network of waypoint target areas for your sea war.

 

 

Then, use the BasePoint= flag to make sure your ground units show up in the right place. It works like this:-

Where the basepoint is the location on your map that the ground battle for the corresponding node will take place.

 

That way, you can keep your ground battles on land or water, for whatever type of ground unit you are using.

 

Obviously, you need separate strings of basenodes for sea and land units, so you don't get tanks showing up at sea or vice versa.

 

For a waterworld type scenario, equip your sea units with the stock patrol boat. That way, you won't need to create new formations for capital ships, as patrol boats are small enough to use the existing tank formations, and lots of small boats zipping around shooting at each other would provide quite an interesting backdrop.

It is working a little, but not quite.

Friendly ground units dissappear from the map after one succesful offensive.

In the game I never actually see the 3D patrolboats.

Maybe it is not enough for the strategicnode basepoints to be on the water, and

instead i should make new targetareas like this: Gavabutu approach, Tokaroa Island approach 1 etc?

 

what does LocalObjective=True do?

 

Not much time to play around with this though, time to go on holiday. :)
