New Battleship film

Recommended Posts

A new low in filmmaking?. However, i must admit i will probably pay the damn ticket just to see the ships delivering lead. Ironically, Rihanna plays the role of an "officer in charge with setting out the fires aboard". I bet his 2IC is Eminem.

That´s the key, man, A film based in a board game. Not Cluedo, exactly. Water, hit, sunk, rock bottom

IMO, Hollywood officially ran out of ideas right about the time they made the first Scooby Doo movie.

There are no new ideas. It's all old ones dressed up in shiny trappings as if they're new. The only question is how well the old idea is dressed up and if it's worth seeing.

Hey I watched that again yesterday. Still a poorly made movie, but followed it up with the National Geographics bit about finding the Bismark on Netflix. You know, I didn't know that the Bismark only lasted two weeks from setting sail to settling to the bottom. Terrible waste of beautiful ships and some fine sailors in both the Bismark and the Hood. How did that little corporal get Germany there???

History brain muscle reflex action............

Read the Wikipedia article about the movie. Think that, except for a number of inaccurasies, it was made very well for 1960, with a number of real ships involved (including HMS Vanguard for the 15 inch guns, HMS Victorious, cruisers and destroyers), real Swordfishes and a Catalina etc. etc. and quite accurate models. To me it made lasting impression, certainly at my age at that time, less than 20 years after the whole thing actually happened......:good:

The Nat. Geographics thing is great and I have got as a book too.

Crap Film good to sell a tons of Pop Corn and for the 3d modders to guess the right animations for the Navy weapon sys.

I'm Still fascinated by the old "Tora Tora Tora" or "The Bridges of Toko Ri" and few NAM movie......

Those were the days with the "people" into the centre of the movie not animation effects.....We have tons of enemies on our OFP (old f***ed planet), who need to search them in the Alien world.......

I forgot "Saving Private Ryan" and "The Hunt For Red October" they're on my favour too....

Mauz.

I'm shamelessly reviving this thread from the dead because I just saw the movie today and thought I'd give a quick, spoiler free review.

Battleship was... tolerable. Basically a big dumb action movie.

The premise was full of holes; the script and acting was weaksauce. The main character (Taylor Kitsch) is an attempt at a blatant ripoff of Kirk from the 2009 Star Trek, except without any of the charisma (or any positive attributes at all, really). The JMSDF captain is cool, though, and at least he (Tadanobu Asano) can act. Everyone else is forgettable.

Alien tech is wildly inconsisent. Their main weapons are apparently 1) dumb-fire mortar rounds that tumble through the air for no reason, and 2) mechanical remote-controlled Sonic the Hedgehogs. No explanation why this species capable of FTL travel and 500km diamater forcefields has such hilariously lame weapons and sensors. Worse, the movie feels "small" despite the huge budget, because the film gives the impression that no one else in the entire world aside from the main characters do jack squat when hostile extraterrestrials arrive.

On the other hand, it's (sadly) the only movie I know of where you can see modern surface warfare elements (mostly DDGs and one very famous BB) do their thing. Think of it as "Warship porn," ignore the dumb story, plot holes, and bad acting, and you can still enjoy the visuals. >_>

I have to go see it this evening... honestly I'm only going to see the Iowa firing in a film. My personal idea is that this film will be rubbish.
