Recommended Posts

After launching my SF2, the auto updater told me that a new update is available. The update is 72 MB big.

The readme says this concerning the update:

=================================

Strike Fighters 2 Aug 2011 Update

=================================

If you have installed any mods to the game, please check the

ChangeList.txt for a list of updated files. If any data files

you've extracted have been changed, you must manually delete

and/or updated these files, or the patched game may not run

correctly.

Previous campaign saved data may not load after installing

this Update.

List of changes in this Update include:

* Air Forces of Belgium and Netherlands have been added to

European campaigns.

Sweet!

I especially like the "no weapon" option for aircraft with no guns.

Belgium and Netherlands come into the early SF2E and XP2 campaigns with Meteors and Hunters. No idea about Mirage, could be an upgrade.

Mirage 5F/BA in '79 Europe campaign

Ah-hah, that's where the next DLC plugs in.

Other new weapons beside the JL-100 are:

AIM-7P (perhaps added already with a previous upate...)

Matra530E IRM

LAU-32A 7-shot rocket pod

V3A (SAAF IRM 's )

V3B

and the 500L Supersonic Tankd for the Mirage is back

And the list in the Loadout menu now gives number and type of rockets info for the rocket pods

The new weapon editor, I noticed that several options are now greyed out for specific weapon types, e.g

for SAHM it now has only 3 options

home on jam

optical backup

iff interrogator

al other are greyed out now.... dont know if that is intentional or a bug... no more lofted AIM-7 etc. havent checke doptions for modded AHM (AIM-120) yet.

V3A (SAAF IRM 's )

V3B

For future Mirage F1?

AIM-120 (AHM type) can still me set to lofted, so the changes in restricting missile data options

seem to be intentional.. perhaps related to future additions .. Tomcat or so.

Mirage IIICZ or EZ is more likely.. I think.

I think so too, for whole new Aircrafts I think we have to wait two weeksTM. :grin:

The no weapons is a nice option, but I have overcome it with FC`s Navcom ;) He used it as a "weapon"

I`m still on the last patch status befor the payaddons came out! And as I understoot it, you can`t patch up your game without this paystuff, am i right?

DLC files are stored separate. The Patch will update the files you have, that's all.

Hey, the game knows they are mutually exclusive loadouts. If you pick 4 Falcons on one station and then go and add bombs on another, the Falcons load will be reduced to 2.

Love this update!

Those Falcon rails will knock a few knots of your airspeed! Were they really as 'blunt' as that?

Edit: I think I know why now!

McDonnell-Douglas F-4C/D/E/EJ

Weapon: 4 x AIM-4D

Carriage: LAU-42/A launch rail assemblies fitted to the inner wing pylons allowed carriage of up to four AIM-4Ds. The inner wing pylon carried one rail on the main pylon itself, with a second rail on the inboard AIM-9 station. The rail mounted on the inboard AIM-9 station was a bulkier assembly than that fitted to the main pylon as it contained the liquid nitrogen supply used to cool the AIM-4D seeker head prior to launch as well as various electronic components. For this reason, it was possible to carry the inboard pair of AIM-4Ds while carrying other external stores on the main pylons, but not possible to carry only the lower pair of Falcons. While often associated solely with the F-4D due to the experiences of the Vietnam War, the AIM-4D was also operational on both the F-4E and F-4EJ, and at least trialed on the F-4C.

One nice touch I noticed;

When you get shot down, the game continues and follows the conversations.

For example, if there's a warning of an enemy firing a missile you can see

the enemy fiing the missile, the following of the missile and the hit or miss of the

target. Nice cinematic touch!
