Hey guys, after some abysmal performance with the IRIS-T (hitting friendly targets blink.gif) I decided I would include an IFF on every decent plane lol. The thing is...how to do it? I remember asking nazghul some weeks ago, but he wasn't sure either. This question also arose after I read the YF-5 tactical tiger has an iFF, so any clues? lol

IFF function with IR homers... no worky. It'll still go after your friendly element. However the only way to to make sure that you're targeting the right aircraft is to use the overhead map, point your aircraft in the direction (as specific as possible), use the radar to lock up your target, and use that to designate for an IRM launch. Not totally perfect but a way to help avoid a fratricide incident...

The only equivalent to IFF in the game is padlocking your target. you get a message in the buffer saying what kind of aircraft it is and if you HUD/Visual Spotting settings are on normal, you get all his information in the lower right corner of your screen. If you are like me and don't have HUD info and/or missed the text buffer message, you can use the F8 button to see the target you have padlocked.

So, if you are in an F-4 and you have a radar lock but aren't sure if you have a friend or foe, <CTRL><R> to set the radar contact as your visual target. If you did not have the target previously padlocked, the aircraft type should show up in the message buffer. If you missed it, or want to simulate TISEO or similar TCS systems, use F8 to see the target up close.

Otherwise, the only other IFF in the game is in the F-15A radar display in TWS mode. Of course, the real F-15A didn't have that mode with the original APG-63.

yes there are IFF function in SF2 but it works on radars only

i mean on radar display you will see your enemies as red icons and friendlies as blue icons

fly with the F-22 or YF-5 and you can understand that

sf2 does support IFF systems but not 100% it support the radars IFF only

and also when tweaking a missile using weapons editor there are IFF function box but im not sure if it works as it in the real life

i hope TK release an update thats support the IFF systems

This is a bit awkward, but I also find that deselecting your IRM, deselecting and reacquiring your target and reselecting your IRM can help reset undesirable locks with IRMs with high off-boresight capability. The number of times I've had a newly created fireball just out of view attract a second IR shot like a giant flare has caused me reassess how approach knife fights. It isn't always successful and sometimes you just have to deal with a wasted shot, but it has upped my kill percentage noticeably. Also, IDing any friendlies in your FOV before and timing the shot to avoid blue on blue is critical. You can never guarantee where an IRM will go if you fire in a direction with multiple aircraft, but you can work some of the variables out of the equation.

I'm working on a 1983 version of the F-15A, which has TWS ( there was a TWS mode pre-MSIP, I re-checked my sources, dont know the exact time when it was available but 83/84 is a good estimate )

I've also added IFF function to normal search mode, IFF isnt limited to TWS on the real thing.

My F-15A avionics enhancement will be updated too.

The IFF function in the game is a 100% method, it sorts contacts into friendly and enemy symbols.

From my F-15A (83) mod :beta:

escort mission, the circle left low on the screen is a friendly F-4 bomber flight.. the diamonds near the top are mig-23 and 17 flights .. enemy

post-2042-0-80047500-1315333366.jpg

same scenario in TWS, the F-4 bomber flight is outside the TWS scan volume (60° scan), not visible anymore, I have selected the mig-23 flight - center up - and right low corner are my #3 and 4 heading for the mig 17's ... migs are rectangles and friendlies are dots

post-2042-0-44965700-1315333368.jpg

the exact type of the enemy aircraft was found out by locking them and using the radar target keyboard command , kinda

a "lite" enemy IFF interrogator

SAHMs and AHMs can be set up with IFF discriminators.

Ahhh! I didn't know IFF didn't work with Heat seakers....I just thought that because with the YF-5 for example, it never (the IRIS-T) locks on a friendly aircraft, even in congested airspace....but anywho! My real question is, how to implement one for the Radar AAM's...as It seems interesting enough for some planes!drinks.gif

The easiest way, is by using the Third Wire Weapon's Editor....

Well yeah, I understand that, but I mean, physically adding an IFF Module on a plane, you know? not modifying the weapons themselves, but adding the actual "Addon" for a lack of a better word

There is no "IFF module", transponder, etc, that one can add on either as a loadout, or, as an .ini edit. The game simply recognizes all friendly AC as being imbued with, well, "friendly" IFF....and all opponents as not.

Besides, you specifically asked:

So, I "specifically" answered

OHHHHHHH I see!!!! There is no module then!rofl.gif

So the only way to implement it on an aircraft's RADAR would be to edit the avionics.ini? To add IFF to the TWS and the other search systemsdrinks.gif

Apparently Crusader knows more than any of us, which would be nice...

Can I find this MOD somewhere? I can find only the F-15A Avionics Enhancement v1c among your files.

I believe (Crusader probably knows better) that the game automatically does that. For my Super Hornets/Growler the radar automatically sorts friendly and bad guys, but then again he did some work on the avionics so it may be something that he implemented or is a game thing.
