SF2E: TSF: The Catalina Affair

The Catalina Affair

By The Scandinavian Front Team

"The Catalina affair was an incident on June 13, 1952, when a Swedish military Douglas DC-3A-360 Skytrain flying over the Baltic Sea carrying out signals intelligence gathering operations for the Swedish National Defence Radio Establishment (FRA), disappeared east of the isle of Gotska Sandön.

Three days later, two Swedish military Catalina flying boats searched for the DC-3 north of Estonia. One of the planes was shot down by Soviet warplanes but the crew ditched near the West German freighter Münsterland and were rescued."

As the survivors are flown from Finland with a military escort, the DC-3 wreckage is found by the Swedish Navy. Stalin at once declares the wreckage soviet property as "is filled to the brim with Soviet State Secrets" while Sweden declares their intention to combat any attempt to stop a salvage operation on international waters.

As the Swedish Navy rallies off Gotland to blockade the Baltic Navy ports from the point "Svensksund", the Soviets steam out to meet them....

This modification is based on the fictional event that the Catalina Affair resulted in an armed conflict. It is not a reproduction of actual events.

The TSF Team wish to dedicate this mod to the crew of the DC-3 and Anders Jallai, the man who found them.

Installation:

If you are using a mod, or plan to use one, TSF will mess around with settings other mods may be using. As such, creating a seperate mod

folder for TSF is a good idea. If you only plan to use TSF, then this step can be bypassed.

Go to your installation folder (Usually C:\Program Files\Thirdwire\Strike Fighters 2). Make a copy of Strike Fighters 2.exe / Strike Fighters 2 Europe.exe depending on what you prefer and got installed. Name the Copy Strike Fighters 2 TSF.exe . Start your new .exe once, then close the game.

Now go to your Mod Folders. For Windows XP/Vista, this is located in C:\Users\Name\Saved Games\Thirdwire. Unzip the contents of the 7zip file into the mod folder of your choice. Allow any overwrites.

Done! Enjoy the game!

NOTES:

* The Swedish Navy is larger in the mod then it actually was in the 1950s. This is due to the pacing in the action required it.

* The Swedish Air Force actually had only one P-51B. For novelty reasons and fun, you can choose what J 26 type to fly. If you choose another squadron, then all P-51s will be D versions.

I don't know if it is a bug or just me but i can fly only one mission before the campaign is over with a victory of the soviets. I followed the installation instructions as per the readme file. I played the campaign on a clean install of SF2E patched to November 2011 level with a separate mod folder. I tested the squadrons that fly P-51B/D the Mosquito and the Catalina, in short every available squadron and plane. No matter if i abort the mission, get the "mission successful" message, or get shot down the outcome is the same: The enemy forces meet their strategic objectives and the campaign is over. I mean it's perfectly logical for the first and third result but even when i succeed?

That is strange. I thought I had hammered out that bug. I can only assume it is caused by the forces at Svensksund not spawning correctly, but how this is even possible is beyond me, since your files should be identical to mine and mine work just fine.

I know the Engine sometime randomize what is spawned, so let me have a look at the files again and get back to you.

What difficulty are you playing at, btw?

I normally play campaigns on normal or hard but i decided to test this one on easy since i didn't have much time. I will try later today to play in another difficulty level and see if that sorts things out.

JonathanRL i found a solution to my problem. I downloaded again the package and reinstalled it. Now everything works just fine. Must have been a file issue for i don't know what else to assume .

Anyway, keep up the good work my friend because i believe the whole community looks forward to the next part of "The Scandinavian Front" project hoping to be as awesome as the previous two.

Could been a file that was not overwritten or similar thing. Still, I am perplexed.

Good to hear it was solved with a quick reinstall. We will see when the next package comes out.

It will either be the 2012 package or the 1966 package, that I can say for sure.
