Hurc's Nellis Range Mod

***This is a replacement for the previous version 1.0***

This is a modification to the original bombing range to make the home base airfield a likeness of Nellis AFB and take advantage of some of the new Hi-Res Desert textures now available. It also includes some of the objects from the Mescalero Proving Grounds range made By ChampionsVA56.

Nellis AFB is located alot farther South on the map that the original base was. This should eliminate getting aggressor A/C right over Nellis as you take off.

A few drone and aggressor Aircraft are included in this download. You'll see these flying around the range, and parked at the Range Airfield. All weapons have been removed, or they are equiped with training missles

so they won't hurt you.

Only hostile aircraft with a "NationName=RANGE" or "AGRS" will show up on this terrain.

A modified version of the NATIONS.INI file has been included. It is the stock file with the "RANGE" and "AGRS" nations added. You need the "RANGE" nation defined if you want the drone's showing up and need the AGRS nation for the Aggressor A/C.

Provided your other terrains have their "LimitedNations" setup, you won't see the drones's or Aggressor A/C anywhere except the Range. A modified version of the SQUADRONLIST.INI is included with the USAF Thunderbirds squadron added.

The bombing range targets use the layout of the Mescalero Proving Grounds range and the drones and Aggressor A/C use its runway to launch and recover. Note: the target area that was known as the

Warehouse Targets is now Friendly and is a called the Range Control Facility. When you choose to do a Close Support mission, your tanks will be lined up defending it from the enemy tanks.

One thing that is a "feature" not a bug, is that you will have Friendly A/C spawning from Nellis, sometimes right when you are, as Escort or SEAD flights. You cannot collide with them and they will go right thru you as applicable.

Good Hunting!

Not sure what happened there, I just downloaded the mod from CA and added it to my SF2V mods folder and it seems fine ? Did you already have the range terrain and tell it to overwrite ?

It is fixed now. What I did was rename the folder and the ini to "Nellis". I left Mesaclero where it was in the terrain folder. That is what porked it. Naming the folder "Range" was a mistake now we cant have Mescalero and Nellis in the same terrain folder. Oh well it looks good and runs fine, Thanks!:drinks::salute:

I had thought about renaming it so you could have 2 different ranges at one point, but thought "who would want 2 ranges ?" LOL. I will be doing a patch update for a few things I found broken so I could rename it at that time. Will test it out. I'm glad to get feedback like this to keep the people happy :good:

Is the ASR Radar a stock object? Has the animation time on it always been 2.0? Way too fast, only noticed it cuz it was next to the runway as I was landing. Should take 6 seconds per sweep.

Make ASR Radar AnimationTime=6.0 in Desert_Types if you want true realism boys. :grin:

Yes, Its the stock ASR radar. BTW, taking into account the feedback so far, I have uploaded the "New and Improved" version 2.0!

The main thing is its folder and data files are no longer overwriting the original Range, its now Nellis_Range. So you can revert the original back to your previous and install the new 2.0 version if you want. It also has a few fixes that you may want such as a higher default Low Altitude in the MISSIONCONTROL.INI. With the stock alt you would fast forward (Alt + N) and be hitting a large sand dune, Doh!

I didnt see the fix for the radar animation in time to add it, but when I do the 1st patch it will include that.

Thanks,

Hurc

end users can just edit it in the terrain's _Types.ini

[TargetType0****]

Name=ASR

FullName=ASR Radar

ModelName=asr.lod

TargetType=RADAR

ActiveYear=1950

TargetValue=200

UseGroundObject=FALSE

DamagePoint=1.0

ArmorValue=0.0

ArmorType=0

RepairRate=0.555

StartDetectChance=80

StartIdentifiedChance=20

IncreaseDetectChanceKey=10

MaxVisibleDist=6000.0

DamagedModel=

DestroyedEffect=SmallFire

DestroyedModel=asr_destroyed

SecondaryEffect=SmallExplosionEffect

SecondaryChange=100

AnimationID=1

AnimationTime=2.0 <--- right here!!

and....

if you really want to get tricky, grab the ASR_Data.ini from any of my recent terrain mods, and toss it into the terrain folder. It's been tweeked to act as a search radar, and will show up on the RWR and TEWS (mostly)

FYI to all: I saw report of SEAD mission crashing SF2 when on the Nellis_Range and tried it. Sure enough, SF2 goes not responding. Tried it in a stock Red Range terrain, no problems ?

See if it does the same for you and let me know if you find a cause or fix.

Thanks,

Hurc

I figured out the SEAD mission crash issue - there are no AAA or SAM units in the targets.ini, only mockup objects, and the game engine doesnt see them as SEAD worthy or something like that. This will be fixed in an upcoming patch, but you can fix it by changing the bofors mockup entries in the targets.ini to AAA or SAM as you like. Any AAA or SAM units that you assign to the Range nation in their respective userlist.ini should then show up. Obviously they will start shooting back at you unless you disarm them with an inert weapon or remove their weapons.

Thanks for the version 2.0, love it!

Could you let me in on how to fix the horizon line?

How did you fix that? I have this also with one of my two Taiwan terrains and would love to fix that horizon line.

Thanks again.

My best regards, Kodiak.

Hi,

Perhaps I have done something wrong but I have installed this mod and do not have any drone aircraft.  Any assistance would be nice.  Thanks.  Doc
